You would never tell someone they're wrong about genres? You started it and you laughed about your own superiority. Then you cry about it when somebody calls you wrong? I'll have to remember that only you can say what you want and then change the rules of civility.
My first post was a joke, not meant to be taking seriously. My next post elaborated a little more, and I ended that with saying it's an opinion, but I have mine.

And no, I would never tell someone they're wrong about genres, because there isn't a definitive answer that... Just like I want say people are wrong for liking a certain film just because I don't. But I will give them my fair opinion... How did I laugh about my own superiorty? I actually got the impression that you were the one, not laughing, but acting as if you just jumped into this thread, said I was wrong, and then it was the correct answer, because hey... you are the "movie master".

I don't cry or act up if I find out I'm wrong about something, but you sure act up if your opinion isn't the right one. I can't believe how long this is drawn out, all I wanted to say was that genres were an opinion, though many times it's easy to decide; not with Jaws though, as you can see it is discussed everywhere when it comes to whether it's horror or thriller, and certainly also here...

I just wanted a discussion, but when people can't keep it real I don't see a point in continuing. I can't believe, considering your age, how immature you actually sound, though you clearly try to throw that over on me. "Change the rules of civility" wow, okay then.

To Citizen, I definitely wouldn't mind if you ran it! We just need someone to jump in and if you're willing, go ahead, make my day!

Trouble with a capitial 'T'
Thanks Raul, I made the thread. Anyone who wants to join the Sci-Fi Hof is welcome! Just send me your nomination by PM.

There was some really good ideas mentioned here by you guys, I'm going to go back and read them and make a post so we can maybe tweak the Hofs to make them as good as possible for most people, (of course not everyone will want the same things)

Before man was, war waited for him.
By the way, I still want to run a slasher hall of fame. Maybe it can start a few weeks into the sci-fi one or something, but I don't think there would be a ton of overlap. All I would need is seven other people (Swan is already in, so six other people) to join. I could probably convince Nostromo to join too, so that would just leave me with at least five other people. With a decent ad campaign, I could have it up and running in no time flat.

Trouble with a capitial 'T'
JJ please wait on the Slasher Hof until after the Sci-fi Hof is over. The fans of sci-fi are mostly going to be fans of horror and slasher films too. Godoggo had warned that if too many Hofs are started at the same time, people will drop out and the system will fail. I plan on running the Sci-fi Hof faster than has been done before so it will be over soon enough.

Before man was, war waited for him.
I've only received positive feedback from Swan, so it doesn't look like you would have anything to worry about. And like I said before, I wouldn't be running anything with a large crossover. If I were to run a slasher one, it would probably consist of mostly people outside of the usual hall of fame crowd.

I had to leave, so I still have several posts to catch up on, but I am going to participate. I'm sending my selection in now.

I have two ideas for future HoFs

1. A Comedy HoF

This is self explanatory,

2. A Most Nostalgic Film HoF

This isn't that self explanatory. In other words, in this HoF, you will nominate your first favorite movie or your first favorite movie that you still really enjoy today. For example, I believe Cobpyth said Sleeping Beauty was his favorite film when he was around five years of age or something similar. If he would to join this HoF, he'll nominate Sleeping Beauty as it was probably his first favorite movie.

However, one's first favorite movie might be a movie they today don't like and hence may not want to nominate it; instead they will nominate one of the first movies he/she saw that he/she still loves.

Before man was, war waited for him.
You could try something else instead? Maybe just make a slasher movies thread?
A slasher thread isn't a bad idea, but I still very much want to do a slasher hall of fame.

Gangster Rap is Shakespeare for the Future
I think an additional idea along similar lines to the HoFs would be doing a Director's Study (or some better name for it). My idea for it would be that we'd have as many members as wanted to join, but only 5 (or another number, depending) films would be nominated and they'd all be from the same director. It could generate similar kinds of discussion with the HoFs but be more focused and comprehensive in nature than the HoFs. They could also be much shorter with fewer films nominated and less daunting for people to join. It would also be less of an issue if people dropped because the number of films nominated is much less than the number of people participating.

Let me know if anyone is interested in doing a Director's Study or Director's Cup or whatever it may be named. I'll happily run it if there's interest.

I found this excerpt to be really good:

"It would be easy to mistake House of Whipcord as just another Women in Prison film. While it bears some common threads, this film transcends the basic WIP narrative into something far more. It is true there is nudity, whipping and women held against their will, but the film is not titillation for titillation’s sake. Instead the film projects something dark, resonant, and gloomy- opting for drama with a strong essence of the horrific and none of the overt lesbianism and erotic elements of some of the other prison set films of this period. On this basis House of Whipcord stands out as something memorable, haunting and one of the best examples of the period. Although slightly dated by today’s standards when reviewed against its peers, there is nothing quite like it from its time or place."

Interesting sounding movie Zotis, but I don't get what you are saying?

I like your Director's Study idea Bluedeed. I especially like this
"My idea for it would be that we'd have as many members as wanted to join, but only 5 (or another number, depending) films would be nominated and they'd all be from the same director."

I like this idea Bluedeed. It seems more manageable for people who are pressed for time. How are you thinking the 5 or so films will be chosen? A poll ?

That's part of the reason I thought of it, I'm usually pretty pressed for time. A poll is the most democratic way to do it, but that can be unwieldy in the case of directors with a lot of films (ex. from the batch of directors I selected, several have 30 films or more, Ford has over 80). I also don't want just the most popular ones to be chosen because I think that will make it less interesting. So I'm not sure exactly yet how the five films will be chosen, I'm open to suggestions

I would be willing to run a doc HOF in conjuction with the other if there is enough interest.
Can't guarantee until I know how long we'll have, how many will be nominated and how my time is whenever it starts. There is a good chance I'll join this though.

Also like six months too soon, but I'd love for the countdown following the 60s to be Docs. Just throwing that out there .

\We have no idea if she will return or when so....
If I recall right she mentioned she went on vacation so I wouldn't panic

I haven't participated in one of these but a musical HOF would be more up my alley

Trouble with a capitial 'T'
Ace, there will be a musical HOF soon. You've probably seen there is a sci fi Hof and a slasher Hof, you could join either of those or both.

Before man was, war waited for him.
I'd like to keep running theme hall of fames. I enjoy the specific themes more than just the normal hall of fames to be honest, and I also like the idea of being able to choose the theme.

Seriously though, I think I'll keep running theme hall of fames. I'll probably limit my hall of fames to just 12 participants each time, but I'll keep in my mind the people who miss out on hall of fames because the numbers. I'll try not to let any of my hofs interrupt anything else, but I kind of feel like these things are my babies since it was me who stole the idea of the hall of fames from another place and brought them here. For that reason, I definitely want to stay involved.

I started a notepad file last night and started coming up with a bunch of ideas for theme rounds, it kind of got out of hand. Some of them might have been too specific, but I'd love to get through every last one of them. That won't happen, but I am genuinely excited for all of them. Hopefully I can share some of that excitement with the fellow MoFos. And not all of them are horror related despite my recent movie watching being dominated by the genre, I think I have something for everybody on my long list of possible hall of fames.
