The MoFo Top Film Sequels List
*LIST IS ON HOLD. IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT*
*LIST IS ON HOLD. IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT*
So after asking around the forums, it seems like such a thing as a ‘Top Film Sequels List’ has yet to be a reality. Therefore I thought it would be a very interesting countdown to do, and since I happened to suddenly think of it, I might as well be the one to push this bad-boy out into the world. But first here follows some rules and guidelines and all the usual stuff needed to participate. I hope Miss Vicky don’t mind that I used the Animation List as a partial draft for this list.
Or else just sue me!
Rules and Guidelines for Voting
• THIS LIST IS SET ON HOLD. PLEASE DO NOT BUMP IT, AS THAT WILL HAPPEN NATURALLY AT AN APPROPIATE TIME. THANK YOU.
• Submit your ranked list of twenty-five titles, numbered 1-25 with no ties, to me via a private message with the title "[Your Username] - MoFo Film Sequels List.” Please DO NOT post your list in this thread or anywhere on the forums. Any member who publicly posts a list before the countdown is complete, whether it is your “final” list or not, will be disqualified as a voter. You may of course, as always, post your entries along the way, as they are revealed in the countdown.
• If you are truly having difficulty compiling a list of 25 sequels, but would still like to participate, I will accept ballots of fewer than 25 films and will score them the same as a full ballot of 25. However, partial ballots will not be accepted any earlier than February 15th, 2014.
• Once you have submitted your list to me, it is considered final. I will not accept any changes after the fact, except when questions of eligibility arise or if there is a mistake in numbering (such as a missing number), so make sure you are completely satisfied with your list before submitting.
• Your list must be ranked in numerical order. Films will be awarded points as follows: 25 points for 1st place, 24 points for 2nd place, 23 for 3rd and so on, all the way down to one point for your 25th placed film. As I am sure many of you already do, please include the release year of the film together with the title (example: The Godfather Part II (1974)). That way it will be easier to know exactly which film you are voting for and less confusion will happen.
• New members can participate and send in a list as soon as they have been a member here for 30 days.
• For the purposes of this list, sequels are defined as follows:
A sequel is defined as a narrative work that is complete in itself, but continues the story of, or expands upon, some earlier work. To be eligible for this list, the sequel needs to either portray, or in some way have a connection to, events or characters set in the same fictional universe as an earlier work (usually chronologically following the events of that work).
That means ALL sequels, whether it is 2, 3, 4 or 15, has to be somehow connected to the original work. Therefore NO reboots, remakes, re-imaginings or other of that matter, will be eligible, unless the given film is a sequel/prequel that has connection to the remake (example: 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' is a sequel to the rebooted entry 'The Amazing Spider-Man'), and therefore set inside the same fictional universe and not in the previously created one.
Usually it is also fairly easy to look it up online, to see whether an installment is considered a sequel, prequel, remake or a reboot.
Regardless of how a film connects with a TV series or written novel, it is the actual films that we focus on. Therefore, for example, the first Star Trek movie Star Trek: The Motion Picture is not an eligible sequel even if it continues from the series. We are talking MOVIE sequels/prequels on this list, only.
• Prequels are allowed. As long as they are considered a “follow-up work” to the original it will be eligible. So there isn’t going to be any confusion, I ask you to please ask me in this thread, or via PM, whether or not a prequel is eligible. Either way, here is a quick definition of which kind of prequels are accepted in this countdown:
A prequel is defined in pretty much the same way as in the sequel definition above. The prequel has to be somehow connected to the original work, meaning either the same story is expanded upon, or the same actors, directors or writers are returning for a connected entry in the series. The entry has to be widely considered a “legit installment” in the series, and not just someone who gathered the rights to the franchise and tried to milk some money out of it. Therefore, many of you are probably happy about the fact that ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' IS indeed eligible.
• Full-length feature film sequels to a short film, or short film sequels to full-length feature films, ARE NOT eligible. Though short film sequels to a short film is eligible (though I doubt there is many of those out there, which are direct sequels). As long as it lives up to the terms listed above. But again, please do ask me so you don’t end up voting for a film/short, which I consider ineligible.
• When voting for foreign language films, please include the English language title of the film (when applicable) on your ballot. Including IMDb links would be very helpful as well. You may put both the original title and the English title, but it will be easier for me to tabulate the results if I am not accidentally counting one film as two. I will have enough issues with films that have multiple English language titles.
• I will do some of the graphic work myself, but please do PM me if you are great at doing graphics. I would feel a lot better if I knew there were a few nice MoFo’s out there, willing to help, and wouldn’t mind a PM from me if I suddenly needed something done.
• If you are unsure of the eligibility of a particular title, please PM me or ask in this thread and I will make every effort to respond promptly. If I am unfamiliar with a particular title and my research does not clarify its eligibility, I will ask the opinion of other MoFos – but the final decision will be mine to make.
SO GET WATCHING MOFOS!

Sequels/prequels NOT eligible for this list
• Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope - It is the first and original movie created in the series, regardless of the prequels that came after it. You may vote for its two sequels and all of the three prequels, but Episode IV will stand as the original and ineligible.
• Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - It is the first movie in the Middle-Earth universe and therefore not eligible. You may vote for it's two sequels and all of its three prequels.
• Star Trek (2009 reboot) - It was meant as a reboot and contains an all new main cast, regardless of how it wants to create alternative universes, strange connections to previous films, or whatever. You may vote for its sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness.
• Batman Begins - Although telling an origin story, it is in no way a prequel to any of the Burton movies or any other Batman project. It stands as a reboot, and therefore you can only vote its two sequels. Obviously though, you can vote for Batman Returns and all sequels following that, as they are themselves sequels to Burton's 1989 Batman.
• Bond franchise - Mostly it is just a movie series full of films based on the same basic source material with the same main character(s) present. Some Bond movies have direct sequels, like Casino Royale's direct follow-up, Quantum of Solace, but counting some and excluding others would be unfair and quite messy. Therefore the Bond films will stay ineligible.
