I guess this is why intelligent and persuasive sociopaths like Hitler are so dangerous to society; they have the "moral" development of an ape, but the skill and intellect of a human - it's like giving a chimpanzee unlimited ammo and a license to kill:



This also poses an interesting philosophical question:

Hypothetically if sociopaths brains could be detected (and assuming the condition was immutable rather than environmentally conditioned) - then should they legally be recognized as humans, or should they be classified as animals and kept in zoos or 'reservations' where they could live a primal life away from human society, and fight, rape, and kill each other as they please just like warring chimp clans in the jungle? (Think Escape from New York).

This reminds me in a way of 'transgender' debates that have been going on lately, such as whether a transgender MMA fighter should be recognized as a man (because their phyisque and chromosomes are male) or as a woman (because their brain is female).

You should seriously just make "The 90sAce Thread" and fill it up with all these articles you like to bring up.

If it's true that sociopaths have the same brain as a chimp, then are they actually "evil" or just "morally retarded" (since we don't normally consider animals "evil" even when they do brutal things)? Does this mean they know the difference between right/wrong and just don't care, or that they really aren't mentally capable of knowing the difference?

And would this mean it's even possible to be "evil" of one's own accord, or would it mean that "evil" doesn't really exist, and that it's simply the result of being mentally uncapable to understand what is "good"?

And I do believe they can't say the difference between right and wrong, but that's a sensible matter.

Technically it's not mental retardation, since they have the same intelligence of humans, it's just the part of the brain that governs moral function that's "retarded".

Though I thought the same thing as you did as a negative to the proposal - since if we classified people as 'non-human' based on the capacity of their brain, this could lead to the mentally retarded being classified as 'animals' as well (though there wouldn't be any motive to keep them out of human society unlike with sociopaths).

This also wasn't a serious proposal, just a philosophical discussion that I thought would be interesting.

his wife was sleeping with other men on the sly . several men .
but he did not have the guts to divorce her because there is the question of their children .

so he took her to a psychiatrist hoping that the psychiatrist would correct her 'abnormal' behaviour . the psychiatrist said that i must conduct sessions with both of you together .

now the psychiatrist is saying to him that your wife sleeps with other men because you are a sociopath and ill treat your wife . the only reason she is sticking with you is because the children need their father . now if you stop your callous behaviour towards her then she will automatically stop her cheating .

I've highlighted the section that sounds like something sociopaths would say. You realize thinking along those lines qualifies as sociopathic, right? Are you serious? Put people in zoos?
