How many times do you watch a movie?

Tools

There's no limit to how many times I'll watch a movie that I enjoyed. That's the whole point of buying the DVDs. This way I can watch them over and over and over again. I haven't the slightest idea how many times I've seen my favorite films.

I'll even see them over and over again in the theater. I saw Gladiator 5 times in the theater, 3:10 to Yuma 4 times, Ratatouille, Up, and Signs 3 times in the theater and countless others twice. I also saw The Dark Knight 3 times in three days. I saw the midnight showing, saw it again the next day and again the day after that.

It really depends on the film. If I like the film there is no limit I put on how many times I'll watch it. If I don't like the film then I'll probably watch it once maybe twice. Although this isn't exactly true, I can't count how many times a movie I've felt was bad has been on TV and I've watched the whole thing.

So I guess there is no limit to how many times I watch a movie, good or bad.

It all depends on how much the movie appeals to me. The movies that I usually end up seeing more than once are in the Comedy genre.

A comedy film will make me laugh when I see it the second time on cable, and then I'm hooked on it for a long time.

Films that I've seen hundreds of times that come to mind are all the films that I've listed in my Favorite Movies (check them out), in addition to other films that did not make the list but I consider to be my favorites like The Color of Money, Rain Man, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Born on the Fourth of July, Superman, Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places...and the list goes on and on.

There are some other films that are considered flops that have found their way to my repeated viewings list like a little 80's comedy film starring John Travolta called The Experts. Has anyone seen it?

Banned from Hollywood.
Favorite movies at least once or twice every 4,5 months...in general i watch movies many times...love "studying" them..there's always something new to discover in a movie.

that's the whole beauty of them...

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
oYeah, it really depends on the movie and the circumstances. If I don't own it (it's a rental), I'll probably watch it at least twice if I haven't already seen it a gazilion times. For example, even though Brenda and I own the DVD of The Big Country and have each watched it 10-20 times, it was on the western channel last night, so we watched it until 2:30 AM. We talked about all the reasons we loved it and Gregory Peck movies and we both got almost misty-eyed over what a great character that Chuck Heston's was. I also recently watched Roman Polanski's The Tenant twice on rental, once in English and once in French because I knew I wanted to discuss it in a special thread here at the site. On the other hand, I own many movies I've seen a gazillion times which I have to remind myself to watch again and/or show my friends/family. On the other, other hand, Jerome Moross' score for The Big Country is about my third fave score, just after Ennio Morricone's score for Days of Heaven and Basil Poledouris' score for Conan the Barbarian.

Unless it's a really bad movie, I won't re-watch.

But, pretty much every movie I aim to see at least twice so I can finalize an opinion about it and get more familiar with the film.

It makes me mad when I can't remember a movie that I've seen, which usually results in a re-watch. And, of course, I watch my favorites over and over again.

At least once a day I watch a movie....well I alternate between movies or tv series!

It depends on the movie. If it's an average movie, then I probably watch it once or twice. If it's a classic, then probably multiple times over the years.

Depends on the movie, for example i would'nt watch 7 pounds more than once, even though it was a good movie. I say the bigger the spoiler, the less i'll watch again in the future.

Some of my favourite movies I've seen over 15 times probably but I like to make space for some new ones and TV showers. But it depends. I saw Inglourious Basterds at the cinemas twice, and thats a rarity.

Yeah I actually think I enjoyed it equal both times but either way. So gooood

Sometimes you don't need to see a film multiple times to get the best out of it. This quote form New Yorker film critic Anthony Lane always sticks in my mind...

(On Mizoguchi's Sansho the Bailiff; 1954) "I have seen Sansho only once, a decade ago, emerging from the cinema a broken man but calm in my conviction that I had never seen anything better; I have not dared watch it again, reluctant to ruin the spell, but also because the human heart was not designed to weather such an ordeal."

I have a couple of friends who feel the same way about Titanic and they didn't even see it on the big screen. I'd hate to see what it'd do to them if they did.

An answer, in numerical, to such a question is very difficult to answer. I can describe what I actually do. For the first time I watch a movie on dvd. At that time I do not like presence of my friends and family members with me as I do not want to miss my feelings while watching a movie. Then, because of some unknown chemistry in my mind the movie may or may not occupy me. It does so as it pulls me to the content, music, dialogue, sceneries, camera, artists and finally to the making of the movie bit by bit. Sometimes I feel spellbound and make time to watch once more.
Sophia Loren is my most favorite artist and the climax situation of the two women in the movie ‘Two Women’ I have loved to watch several times. In ‘Limelight’ of Chaplin when the girl murmurs ‘I am walking, I am walking’ I too find spirit to step further in the face of any formidable hindrance in real life. I would request you not to ask me how many times the chariot-race scene of ‘Ben Hur’ I have watched. I do not know if you have chanced to watch an Indian movie named ‘Titas Ekti Nadir Nam’ which has been directed by none other than Ritwik Ghatak. A brilliant movie it is. There is a canoe-race scene in this film which has stunned me from the first time I have experienced it. Yes, it has been an experience like the one in ‘Ben Hur’.
Sometimes music of some film haunts me. I become restless to have again a taste of the elixir left there. I have love to listen to the whistles in the ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’. Music in the films of Satyajit Ray is my favorite. If you watch Ray’s films you will, I may be sure, love it too

Well when it comes to horror flick, so many times! I have watched all my horror collections many times esp my B-Grade animal attack ones! Like "Grizzly" and "Jaws"1-4, as for "Friday the 13th" I've lost count lol

They're just a whole lot of fun, also films like "ET" and "Mean Girls" are great to watch a few times, timeless stuff, "Drop Dead Gorgeous","The Royal Tenenbaums" are so funny that they just put you in an instant good mood!

Ok - but that isn't the question. The OP is asking how many times you tend to watch a film. Like say for instance, how many times did you watch X-men? Do you tend to just watch movies once, or do you watch them many times?
