Starting to live on your own

Also, if you're structured in your learning, you could order some books and DVDs and start to educate yourself without taking formal classes (of course you're already well on your way) - and perhaps learn even more than you would in film school.
that's a good idea actually!

Remember: Quentin Tarantino said that he never went to film school. He went to films.
yeah,I've heard that, though I can't imagine myself as a filmmaker but it's hard to draw conclusions since I didn't have much experience with filmmaking.I was also thinking about film criticizing, then journalism is a better career to take. Now I am pretty sure that I will take a gap year which will give me more time.

I gave up an extra year switching from History to Film Studies and starting my degree over but now I couldn't be happier with my choice.
oh,tell me more about film studies, what's it like?I've read online about it but it's better to hear from experienced people. )

I left school at 17 and wish that I had stayed to get a degree. Fact is that I simply hated studying/school and when I started earning money school just went right out of the window.
yeah, some of my friends also tell me that if I take a gap year and start working,I will lose interest in studies but that doesn't scare me much as I don't mind school and I like learning and even if I decide not to go studying, then I won't.I think it's just better than start studying what you probably won't even enjoy.

If you have any money travel a bit, or travel and work in a different country, try and pick up a new language in said country etc.
yep, that's what I'm considering now but the idea is actually scaring me.

I really like it so far. I took a path that focuses on theory and history, although obviously you can take a more practical course as well if you wanted to do that. It will probably differ greatly where you are so it's hard to compare and depends on a lot of different things like quality of teaching, etc but so far it's been really interesting and I've learned a lot. Having a passion for the subject has really been a leg up in terms of the work, too, makes you want to go do it to the best of your ability rather than procrastinating with a subject you're not that into.

Not Enough Time
You're parents are probably most concerned with you making a plan for your life, hence they want you to go on to further schooling to be able to have a good career. So if you want them to put less pressure on you, it may help just explaining to them what your thoughts are on the subject.

Also, I think it's good to go out and work or get internships at jobs which you think you may like. Sometimes a job we think we'll really like, isn't at all what we thought it would be. You don't really know what you're going to like to do until you're actually working in the field and find out first hand.

The downside of taking the time to do this is: 1- It's sometimes harder to go back to school as you get older, for various reasons, 2- It often takes longer to be living on your own
(If you get a good paying full time job and move out, you'll have to keep that income in order to pay bills and maintain your lifestyle, and going to school does not usually include income. You'd have to go to school part time and have a job that gives you enough money to survive as well as enough time off to do your school work. This is very difficult, plus it takes longer to get through school because you cannot take as many classes at once.)

Okay,so my plan to start a new life in a new country is still ongoing and since my work will be done in the middle of October, the plan is to leave in a month. I already chose the uni I wanna go to (Essex University),probably will take film studies or if I come to my senses maybe I'll go with International Relations.
All this time all I managed to do was to make a to-do list and I wrote a CV.Well, and I'm earning money,of course. This past month I've been looking for room to rent and it's so difficult to choose, mainly because I don't know whether I can trust these people who rent.I have not only to find a room in a good location but also with suiting price and normal tenants.
So this is a short update and just letting of my worries. :/

Lately I've found a room for myself so I hope you find a good one as well. Good luck with that!

ah,if I remember correctly you moved from one city to another?

I have the same questions myself. I don't have the slightest idea of what I want to for a living. So I went to a pretty general program where I don't have many door that closes when I'll know what I want to do. I have the chance to live somewhere where school is affordable for everyone so it's less stressfull for me than most of people who live elsewhere I guess.

I have a question for people who live in the US or even in europ. How much does it cost to go to university for one year?

Besides all of the undoubtedly great advice you've been given here, I can add that if you decide to go to uni, par-tay lots.

^ I think that comes naturally.
To some people, but if you're not the kind of person who likes to do that kind of thing there can be this kind of weird pressure to be into it. If you like that stuff then great but if not, don't let it get to you. Personally I much prefer a few quiet drinks with a small group of friends to getting absolutely wasted and not remembering anything the morning after.

I didn't even know what par-tay means, but it looks like my kind of party with no alcohol and drugs.

Ok,finally found a room to rent and if I sign the rent agreement, then I'm definitely going.I'll pay nearly 300 pounds a month but I looked at tons of ads and I think it's quite cheap (note that the place I'm going is about 100 km from London).
Now I'm really afraid if I will manage to find a job since my money will cover me for a month easily or two months but hardly. My working place here closes on 12th of October. On the last week,I'll watch Forrest Gump,Dead Poet's Society and maybe Pursuit of Happyness on repeat.

Current wage in Britain is £4.98p per hour if you're aged 18-20...

Aged 21 and over is minimum £6.19p per hour.

In October it is going up by about 10p.

Current tax rate is about 20%.

Interesting choice to move out without an income stream. On one hand it's certainly riskier (especially if you sign a year lease or something), but on the other, that's one heck of an impetus to find a job. Best of luck either way!

How much do you think one person spends on living expenses?Food, transport etc?

I know that it's risky but I don't have much choice.Well,or I could try to find a job while I'm here and as soon as I get one, quickly go there. That is also an option although not the one I'd prefer.Anyway,I'm sending my CV during this week and I'll check how it goes.

I have work experience and if the environment is good,I can work a lot.I'm from this summer resort city where teenage work during season is normal.Although it's more like teenage slavery.

Well, living expenses depends on where you are. You say 100km outside London, but that's a pretty big circle.

Prices for living where I am, I can feed myself for two weeks for about £40... but that's me on my own and buying own brand stuff from Supermarkets and looking for bargains.

Gas and Electric are about £8-£10 a week each depending on weather temperature.

Transport costs are really down to area.
Buses where I am cost about £3 to go on a 5 mile trip.
Taxis can cost a lot, best thing is to call around and find the cheapest one, but around here they go for about £6 for a 5 mile trip.

Trains everywhere are seriously expensive though since the rail system went private.
