On the lists, what would consider qualifies as "seen"?

Edit: What would YOU consider qualifies...

There are quite a few movies on many of the lists that I have seen at some point in my life, but I either don't remember them well or didn't see the whole thing. I feel like if I can't recall the movie enough to give a well thought opinion I shouldn't check that I've seen it, even though I have actually seen it. Just wondering others thoughts on this.

Great question. I face this very decision a lot. Personally, I've decided that if I'm not sure I've seen something, or seen it all, then I assume I haven't. Not remembering anything at all about a film might as well be the same thing as not having seen it, after all. But I'm unusually cautious about what I check off, too.

I have the same problem.

Tbh, if I've seen the movie all the way through, whether I remember the whole thing or not, I tick the box. I have seen it, so I tick it.

There are a few I've seen parts of, but I haven't ticked them as I haven't seen the whole thing.

It's up to you. I go by the standard of "Can I remember it well enough to at least recall a general 'I liked it' or 'I didn't like it' feeling about it?" If yes, I mark it seen. If no, I don't mark it.

That's how I feel with some of them, that I just didn't like them. But, at the same time most of these movies were ones I watched so long ago, usually as a kid, that I may have a different opinion now. This is why I didn't mark them, because I want to see what I would think now, but I want to check them because I HAVE seen them and my list count is kinda skimpy.

I think not checking a movie just because you may feel differently about it upon another viewing is too harsh a criteria. As much as I'd like to, it's unlikely that all watch every movie on every list, much less making sure my perspective is up to date on each one.

I don't have to remember every detail about the movie to check it. If I could give someone a brief synopsis on the movie I consider it fine to check.

If I remember the plot and the story and I'm sure that I've seen it COMPLETELY, then I mark a movie as seen.

I have a list of all the movies I can recall seeing at least once in my entire life (and that fulfill the above criteria). If it's on there, I consider it seen.

If I'm sure I've seen it from beginning to end, then it's ticked. If I've seen most/some of it or I'm not sure, then it's not ticked.

Wow, I now want to challenge myself to try and do that, but that is intense! I love it!

Thanks for the feedback guys! Unfortunately my lists are still skimpy

I don't have this problem. If I see a movie and then immediately "tick it off" am I then supposed to "un-tick" it in ten years when it joins the ranks of a thousand other movies I only half remember? Memory is highly variable, whether or not you saw it at a given point in time, not so much. If I didn't finish it (and no, that doesn't include getting up to go to the bathroom) or don't know if I did or not, it's another story, but if I did, then I've seen if, whether or not I understand it all, or focused my mind intensely enough the entire time or whatever.

I only list movies when I am sure about having completed them and can measure my enjoyment from it. That last point doesn't have to come from direct memory of the featured stuff, it can also be an associated memory, or having my opinions written in some place. The reason why I do it is that I can't clearly remember the stuff I watched 5-6 years ago or before, but I do want something that serves as a record of what I have watched, so in case I ever tried it again I could contrast that with my previous overall impression.

In fact I tend to be as a little obsessive with this lists and rankings stuff. I rate movies in various places based on the previously set ideas, and my mode of operation implies being based on the last impression I recall. I never, say, re-rate things without experiencing them again, on principle.

I can watch a movie and if sometime later I can remember it completely I must have liked it. If I dont remember anything about it I figure I probably didnt like it so I dont usually bother with it again.

You barely reached the HAL part?
You haven't seen it, indeed (I see you still checked it). The ending is one of the best things of the movie.

If I've seen most of a movie at any point in my life, I'll check it off on a list, but I won't do it if I'm trying to rank movies on Criticker or something.
That's kinda what I figure. I've seen it, but I'm not giving a rating or anything, that will come later if nesseccary.
