That's messed up, IMO. Regardless of Heath Ledger's death, "The Dark Knight" still stands as a brilliant film. Every actor in that movie put on a great performance (except for maybe Maggie Gyllenhaal, but she wasn't in it too much thankfully) - you've got Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary *effing* Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman - all of these people had a hand in making "The Dark Knight" a great film. In addition, Christopher Nolan wrote an incredible script...
What you're suggesting is, that if Ledger was still with us, then "The Dark Knight" would not be considered a movie of such high caliber; I call bulls**t.
(Sorry for the cursing, it's the passion - nothing personal)

I don't know if the film would be considered a higher caliber. I just suspect the Academy, BAFTAs, SAG, Golden Globes etc would have looked like real cold bastards had they not given him those awards - and we can all see in this age of incredible media control and influence, the amount of people who take the word of these awards as gospel. I wasn't necessarily saying it directly affected the view of the film as a whole, just the view of that performance. Not that I'm taking anything away from it - it was brilliant - but people had a hyped up view of it after that - and therefore, more often than not, the movie overall.
But alas, that's just my own opinion. I know there are a ton of people out there who will disagree with me totally.
