Could it be Just Visiting?

It is definitely Just Visiting. Unless it isn't, then he's thinking of a different movie.

I'd say its Just Visiting (2001), or maybe it was the french original film, Les Visiteurs (1993).

If he denies Just Visiting, which is what my first guess was, maybe look at Beastmaster II: Portal Through Time.
