The Others 2001

Heads up! This would be a spoiler to those who have not watched the movie. XD

Just as a brief recap, A woman (Nicole kidman) who lives in a darkened old house with her two photosensitive children becomes convinced that her family home is haunted. After watching the movie, viewers realize that the mother had killed the children during a severe migraine attack and as a twist the movie, the Stewart family are actually the ones doing the haunting.

Now after watching the movie for the 100th time i wonder why only Anne (daughter) is the only one who can see the family moving into the home. Also when Kidman ventured into the dense fog, i am curious why her husband is aimlessly wondering around. Why can he see her if she is dead? is he dead? Why did he leave after being reunited with his children?

I understand there is no wrong or right answer. I am just looking for opinions and ideas about what the director and writers were implying during this seen.

Anna can see them because she hasn't accepted her own death the way her children presumably have; she's still hanging onto life, which is why she's a bit more in-between.

Her husband can see her because he's dead, too. He died in the war.

I'm not necessarily positive about the first answer I've given (it's been awhile since I saw it; about a decade, in fact), but I'm almost positive about the second.

i believe that, thats a good theory when it comes to anne... but what about nick? he doesn't know hes dead right?

With the father. Why do you think he left after seeing his kids. He seemed almost conflicted when he got back.

I don't think he knows he's dead at first, but I'm not positive. But I'm fairly sure that he realizes he's dead while he stays with them, and that's why he leaves. It's a little vague, but the looks he gives always indicated pity, to me, for that fact that his wife was so delusional.

And also sadness that he had found his children to be dead, as well...

Yeah, like you, I feel like I haven't seen this in 7-10 years. I remember the tone being a strong point of the production.
