5 Films from the 2000's that will be remembered 50 years from now (i.e. classics)

2022 Mofo Fantasy Football Champ
Why do you say Gran Torino
I just think it is a movie that will get better with age. I'm not really sure about my reasoning, it is more of a hunch than anything.

What was Sukiyaki like? (and I'm sticking with September)
I suppose I'll watch everything he did..in november

Sukiyaki was a fun film... I laughed at the opening with Tarantino...
If you love Spaghetti Westerns.. you will love it..

Visitor Q sounds cool. I hated Ichi. I had high expectations and gave it a lot of leeway, but it was utter sh!te from beginning to end.

Audition is an excellent film however. It's scary as hell in the beginning the way it builds up the horror. The man in the bag... *shudder*

I don't see how people can like that film. It's just badly done in a lot of places. Almost like a B-film. The acting and the effects are pretty terrible in general. The violence is so terrible too because they don't let you sympathize with ANYBODY. You hate everyone (except maybe the kid) so why keep watching?

I guess it was still better than A Serbian Film.

6 or a 7 sure. I basically wanted to stop watching about half-way through. The end dragged and the muscleman guy effect was a failure, but the concept was pretty clever.

That was the only thing keeping it going. But yeah, don't really need to watch again

I just thought of something possibly relevant. Has anyone else seen Kawiadan by Masaki Kobayashi?

The Notebook
Atonement
(500) Days of Summer
Cinderella Man
Pirates of the Carribean

A system of cells interlinked

Audition is an excellent film however. It's scary as hell in the beginning the way it builds up the horror. The man in the bag... *shudder*
I hate Audition, but I don't think it's a bad film. Far from it - too effective!

Guy in the bag! ACK ACK ACK!!!

Kiri Kiri Kiri Kiri....ACK!

I am burdened with glorious purpose
As an answer to the initial question of this thread (interesting thread -- it goes in all kinds of directions, lol)... I wonder who really tells us what a "classic" is?

Film professors?

Film critics?

Who decides that Jaws is a classic of the 70s? Who decides that Casablanca is the classic film of the 40s? People write about these films. They get analyzed. They get "identified" as classic. If I turned on the TV and they said, "classics of the 2000s" and showed 10 films over the weekend which they say are "classics," won't the audience assume they are?

See, I think Gladiator will be one of those "classics." It has an Oscar Best Picture next to its name, along with a Best Actor trophy for an actor who has other acclaimed performances. Ridley Scott will be known for other films. So I think it will fall in that category.... someone will write about it and call it a "classic" because of its pedigree. But really, who makes the decision? Marketing people?

Today, if a film falls on the AFI Greatest Film list, they are considered "classics," right? Maybe they'll have the same thing 50 years from now... it doesn't matter, though, I'll be gone.

Yeah. The question is difficult. Film HISTORIANS most likely!

For example, I have no idea who "discovered" Citizen Kane was the most influential film ever, or if this was evident from shortly after its release. I wonder if the general populace could see other films being influenced by CK after its release.

2022 Mofo Fantasy Football Champ
I wish that a movie like Gone Baby Gone could be considered a classic in the years to come. But I know everyone isn't with me on that.

What is it? Good?

2022 Mofo Fantasy Football Champ
I think it's a very good film. But I'm guessing if you aren't on board with thinking that Mystic River is any good, you probably wouldn't like Gone Baby Gone either.

I'm guessing The Lord Of The Rings movies as well as Harry Potter.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
This doesn't technically answer the question because it only covers five years and was posted at another thread, but for now, I'll add this.
