Sleeping in the summer

Tools

Something wonderful happened to me last night. The night was chilly and there was a bit of wind in the air! Now I know as a brit it seems that it is a right of passage that I complain about the weather but honestly if there is one thing I hate about the summer it is the act of trying to get to sleep when it is hot and stuffy. Even with every window in my house on and a fan running basically all night I still find it really hard to sleep, bring on Autumn as far as I am concerned.

Does anyone else hear suffer badly also? What is your method for keeping cool?

Yes, the summer sucks for so many reasons, and not being able to sleep properly at night because of the heat is one of them, but if there is one thing that I TRULY HATE about the summer, it's these vile little creatures.

Imo they're proof that God doesn't exist.

Chappie doesn't like the real world
I love the summer. I like hot weather and I get super cold really easily, but I can't sleep without it being a little cold in the room. No one in Florida would ever dream of not having air conditioning, so being hot while sleeping is a non-issue. What's more of a problem is forgetting a sweater and going somewhere that has the AC cranked and freezing.

Usually cool during the night, so open the windows and get a through draft...

Then, during the day, close the windows and keep the curtains closed in the rooms you want to keep cool.
I keep my curtains shut in the bedroom all the time and keep the door closed as well, and it's always cold in there no matter how warm it is outside or in the rest of the flat either.

The problem with AC in Britain is that it's not hot enough, often enough or even with any regularity to justify the expense.

This is Britain, open a window, get rid of the duvet cover, sleep naked. Unless you can't open your windows for some reason, is there really a time hot enough at night here in Britain to warrant a fan/air conditioning...

I remember trying to get to sleep at night with no air conditioning and just a small fan between three people when I stayed in the midwest of America once during the hottest time of the year, so uncomfortable. After that, it's easy to get to sleep during the summer in England.

My wife keeps the central AC on at 68 when we are home and 71 when we are not home. It's very powerful and I freeze my ass off. She notices and wakes up if I even change it 1 degree. I sit on the couch with 2 blankets year round.

Maybe not up north.

I'd open a window but then you get loads of moths and shite flies coming in.
Shite flies? You need to start flushing or something.

I get the struggle; sleeping in the summer heat is the worst! I used to rely on fans and open windows, but in really hot weather, they hardly make a difference. Living in Chicago, we get some brutal summers, so properly working air conditioning is a must. One summer, my AC broke down, and it was unbearable. I tried every trick, like cold showers and frozen water bottles, but nothing worked. Finally, I had someone come out for air conditioning repair, and it was a relief to have cool air back.
