Keeping Track of Watchlists
QUESTION: Quite a number of movies in my watchlist are still in theaters. Does every movie eventually become a streaming movie? I sure do hope so.

In a literal sense, probably not, but pretty much. Assuming "streaming" means "is available to watch online" and not "is available on a subscription streaming service" (particularly one someone already happens to have). Sometimes they just have to be purchased individually, but basically nobody completely forgoes that revenue stream.

I used to write everything down until I discovered Letterboxd and the IMDB check in feature. Never looked back.

Letterboxd for the win!

But you do you, of course! 😋

Just looking at that gives me the heebie-jeebies.
I won't allow my watchlist to exceed one letterboxd page or else I'd be paralyzed with indecision. One of my tricks is to just add one film per director. So maybe I want to see 20 films by so-and-so, but he/she only takes up one slot on the list. Otherwise the utter futility of it all would incapacitate me.

What do we think about streaming fees of $20? Working my way through my profile, I see that a lot of very recent movies are charging $20 to stream. I can see buying a dvd for $20, but not for a one-off viewing.
I have paid $20 for a couple of movies that I badly wanted to see right now, but it pains me. Rent 5 movies for $20 each & that’s a $100.
Really want to hear what others think.

If one hasn’t shown up yet, I know it eventually will. Even if it may take awhile.

A $20 rental means the movie is still playing in theaters... And so for folks who aren't watching movies by themselves, it's actually a heck of a lot cheaper than what they would pay if they went to the theater to watch it, which depending on the number of people, could easily be $60 or more, not including concessions.

Never thought of that. Long time since I was in a movie theater. I feel slightly better about it now.
Remember that those $20 rental rates are usually only that high for 2 weeks or slightly longer, once the movie leaves theaters they usually drop it to closer to $5-$7 to rent
I do love Letterboxd, but there is one depressing part. Quite a few movies in my profile I see are 1 or 2 or 2 or 3 years old and I can see they are languishing waiting for a streaming company to pick them up, which may or may not ever happen and seems very unlikely. This annoys the heck out of me.

For a cinephile this is so frustrating as so many of the movies seem better than the ones that can be streamed.
Have you tried icheckmovies? I love it. And it's fun to complete lists and get "awards".

Ugh, this is the worst thing about Letterboxd. So many movies that look really good that I have collected in my profile are not available for streaming right now & perhaps never will be.
