As Kevin Flynn searches for proof that he invented a hit video game, he is 'digitalized' by a laser and finds himself inside 'The Grid', where programs suffer under the tyrannical rule of the Master Control Program (MCP). With the help of a security program called 'TRON", Flynn seeks to free The Grid from the MCP.

After the short animation Lisberger created was met with praise though, the idea of animating the film was dropped in place of using cutting edge FX and filming techniques for a live action film crossed with computer animation and rotoscoping, eventually leading to Disney getting involved due to the....

This is odd to me considering that being one of the first movies to seriously invest in 3D modeling the creators MUST have had some reasonable idea of how these things work, so I feel like either the writer was either completed detached from that creative process or they felt that they had to stoop ....
