White is worse than yellow.

Anyway, I haven't seen the two new entries yet, but I definitely will in the future.

This is unreadable for people who are on a phone, unless they quote me.

I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I had both The Warriors and The Deer Hunter on my list.

Both of these I watched quite recently and liked a lot. I didn't expect to like The Deer Hunter because I am not particularly interested in war films and especially Vietnam war films, but it wasn't at all like I expected. The first half of the film was the best to me. I liked the "interminable" wedding sequence. I liked the fact that it went on so long :P I do agree with people who think the Russian roulette metaphor gets pushed too far by the end, but to start with, it's a good metaphor. This isn't a documentary suggesting prisoners of war were actually made to play Russian roulette for their captors' entertainment, it's saying that going to war is in itself a game of Russian roulette, you get a gun in your hand and you don't know whether you will come back alive. What I like most about this film is that the war is the smallest part of it. It's more about these characters and their feelings and relationships and how their experiences affect them when (if) they make it back home. It was my #19.

The Warriors scraped onto my list at #24. It was just a whole lot of camp, stylish 70s fun and having watched it once I wanted to watch it again, which I think is a pretty good indicator of a good film.

My list:

1. Cabaret #40
2. Will make it
3. Ali: Fear Eats the Soul #85

4. Le Cercle Rouge #60
5. Won't make it
6. Will make it
7. Will probably make it
8. Will make it
9. Will make it
10. Cries and Whispers #50
11. No chance
12. Will make it
13. Life of Brian #41
14.Will make it
15. Will hopefully make it
16. Will make it
17. Will make it

18. Rocky Horror Picture Show #46
19. The Deer Hunter #38
20. Will probably make it
21. No chance
22. No chance
23. Grease #59
24. The Warriors #37
25. All That Jazz #96

The Brave Little Weeman Returns!
Willy Wonka over Life of Brian? You sicken me.
Tactical.

Carrie, Brian De Palma's adaptation of Stephen King, was on sixteen ballots, half of them top tens: a first, second, third, two fifth, a sixth, eighth, and a ninth. George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead was on seven top tens: a third, a fourth, a fifth, an eighth, and three tenth place votes, but it was on a formidable twenty lists, total.

And in the last two days we've had three more from the list of our departed MoFo, Deadite. The Deer Hunter, Carrie, and Dawn of the Dead were all on his ballot. That makes seven, total.

1. Marathon Man (73)
3. Dawn of the Dead (35)
8. The Deer Hunter (38)
9. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (68)
12. Walkabout (67)
15. Carrie (36)
18. Straw Dogs (83)

Before man was, war waited for him.
Like both. Voted for neither. Dawn is my least favorite of the trilogy. It's a shame it shows up so high, but Fulci's superior Zombie gets no love.

Damn Carrie is high. It's certainly a decent film, but #36, just feels like a couple dozen places to high for it. Haven't seen Dawn of the Dead

I'm very happy to see 2 long time favorites of mine make it. Both of these were painful late cuts for me that would've made my list easily 6 months ago. I saw Carrie at the movies and have always viewed it as one of the scariest movies of all time. If I remember correctly, I couldn't get into see Dawn of the Dead, even with my parents. I finally saw it on video around 1982 when I was about 11. It gave my older sister nightmares, but to me it was just a lot of fun.

Great movies, especially Dawn of the Dead. I watched it recently and I really dig it. Didn't make my list, but I'm more than happy to see it this high on the countdown.
