Hey, I said "awful acting and cringy dialogue" :D
My point still stands!

Btw, what are the hints for the next two films?
I've only seen Life Aquatic so far though Master and Commander has been on my watchlist for a long ass time. Oh and I did contribute one of the 1-pointers. It was a very last minute scramble to make a list and I threw on Remember the Titans as my no. 25. It was a rush but it made the cut as its one I've seen numerous times and always enjoyed
Trivia

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
https://whalebonemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/54949-bill-murray-life-aquatic.jpeg
Did you know that...
during filming Bill Murray became a certified diver logging over 40 hours?
one fictional fish that didn't make it into the final cut was called the Hydronicus Inverticus? It was a fish that could turn itself inside out.
the role of Steve Zissou was written with Bill Murray in mind and according to Anderson, no one else could've played it?
Wes Anderson couldn't write the film with his usual partner, Owen Wilson, cause he was unavailable due to his popularity as an actor at the moment? Because of this, he co-wrote it with Noah Baumbach, their first work together. They worked together again in Fantastic Mr. Fox

98. (but really 99). The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - This was on my lengthy list at the start, but was cut early. I have a lot of reasons to love this film. Wes Anderson and his whimsy at it's peak with stalwart Bill Murray in a leading role. Bud Cort as the bond company stooge. Noah Taylor, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchett, Owen Wilson and Michael Gambon. The David Bowie songs all the way through. The quotable dialogue. The visuals - especially the luminescent sea creatures, and cut-away of Steve Zissou's ship with characters inside it. The familial dynamics and sea adventures are fun in a colourful way, with a search for the mystical Jaguar Shark and battles with Filipino Pirates. I'm definitely on board as one of this film's adherents. I wasn't overly enamoured the first time I saw it, but it's very much grown on me with subsequent rewatches.
97. Werckeister Harmonies - I still haven't caught this, but feel I must.
Btw, what are the hints for the next two films?
I've known you all my life

Haven't seen either Life Aquatic or Werckmeister Harmonies. Both are going on the list.
My guesses for the next two:
Up and Miami Vice (most likely wrong on both)

Good ole Michael Bay. I remember when I thought The Rock was peak cinema. Now I can't watch that movie without getting nauseous because of all those freaking camera cuts. Just pick an angle and stick with it for God's sake.
I'll still vouch for the first Bad Boys film and The Rock as pretty solid. Bad Boys, in particular, had some solid female characters such as Theresa Burnett and Sinclair (something Bay films hasn't had for a while) that held their own with the men. Plus, I dug the spin that Tea Leoni gave to her character. In lesser hands, we probably would have gotten a romance between her and Mike Lowry
He started losing me with the one-two punch of Transformers and Bad Boys 2. His films got increasingly bombastic and formulaic while losing sight of the characters in the spectacle. I tapped out 20 minutes into T2 and haven't been back since with the exceptions of Transformers 4 (sorry Mark, but swapping you for Shia was no improvement) and 6 Underground (where Ryan Reynolds was largely wasted, but at least the music wasn't bad).
I haven't seen Bad Boys in a very long time, probably since it came out, and although I barely remember it, I do remember not being annoyed by it. The Rock is, without a doubt, his greatest "achievement".
BTW, Armageddon was another piece of s-hit.

I just realized I left a classic off my list:

And his work is better when he’s constrained by budget. Or when it’s a commercial. I mean, he gets ticket sales churning so I’ll give him that.
Those two movies got him that deal with Disney and he got bankrolled.

I've only seen a few of Wes Anderson's movies, but they've been a bit too quirky for me. I watched The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou for this countdown, mainly because of Bill Murray. Like the other Wes Anderson movies, it's too quirky for my taste, so it didn't make my list, but it's a fun movie that was worth watching.
I watched Werckmeister Harmonies for the Foreign Language Movies countdown. I found it to be too confusing, and just not my type of movie.

I remember liking Life Aquatic a lot when I first saw it but its been years and I've soured on Anderson's stuff since then so who knows if it holds up. Can't believe I still haven't seen anything by Bela Tarr.

65 points for #100 is a very high step. Initially, I thought it will be about 30-35 pts for that level.
I guess, it means that we have considerable overlap of the lists.
Since we've had a couple of ties, I found this well-written explanation on our previous Foreign Film countdown, courtesy of Thursday Next
In case anyone is wondering about how the ties are broken when two (or more!) films have the same number of points, it first goes on the number of lists, the one on more lists goes higher. If they are on the same number of lists, it goes to which placed highest on an individual list.

...
If Master and Commander is #100, I can't wait to see what the other 99 fantastic films are-- obviously the majority of which I've missed...:suspicious:

I find Life Aquatic to an underrated Wes flick. I really loved it when I saw it. I’ve only seen it once though, so perhaps I will have another view on it with a rewatch. But I really enjoyed it the first time around…
Still haven’t seen Werckmeister Harmonies but it’s on the watchlist.

Yeah, I never would've got these since I haven't seen them. But coincidentally, I planned on Watching Mother and Memories of Murder this week.
For those that were trying to break it down...
I've known you all my life (sons know their mother all their life)
You care for me all along (mothers care for their children, but especially the one in Mother)
I want to love you like a wife (obvious nod to how the teens feel about the older woman in YTMT)
You protect me if I do wrong (and again, a nod to the overprotection from the mother in... umm, Mother)
We're gonna drive together (road trip in YTMT)
From south beach to west sun (Mexico = south of the border, Korea = is on the west, has a sun on its flag)
We're gonna dance together (characters in YTMT dance together, it's on the poster)
Or you're gonna dance alone (iconic ending of Mother, with the mother dancing alone)
I've known you all my life
You care for me all along
I want to love you like a wife
You protect me if I do wrong
We're gonna drive together

Nice predictions by some there. Although, Thief your hints may be too easy. I'm not sure I didn't bother trying to guess because frankly I don't care for those shenanigans.
Both excellent films. Neither made my list. It's really a quality start to the countdown.
Speaking of quality, Thief really appreciate the extra trivia and review to the movies. You're doing great!

Both films having to do with "mothers" really made potential hints to be too easy, I guess. Especially with one of the films literally being called... Mother  Anyway, it was a quick thought last night before going to sleep. I'm gonna work harder on next hints, but I'm also gonna try to keep it varied. Delighted to have had a hand in Mother turning up, even if it is way too early imho. Y Tu Mamá También is one of those movies I see the title of and always think "Oh yeah, I must have seen that!" but then am amazed each and every time when I find that I don't think I actually have. One day I might actually get round to rectifying that rather than letting it slip from my mind ... until the next time I see it mentioned.

Peace and love but I watched Mother for one of the HoFs and it was hot garbage. Never seen Y tu mama tambien. Cuaron isn't really a guy I go out of my way for but he's done some nice stuff.
Mother is on my Hulu watchlist, so I'll get to it soon hopefully. I haven't seen Y tu mama tambien since it came out--I liked it a lot at the time but it did not make my list.

aw, i haven't seen Y tu mamá también in yearrrrs. it was so sad, but really good. i should probably watch it again.
i'm still mourning that i didn't put Still Walking on my list, it's seriously suchhh a good film. again, another sad movie but it kinda gives you that homey comfort feeling you get after watching a Studio Ghibli film, except it's not animated. iunno.
so far none of these movies have been on my list but i'm not unhappy with the choices too much yet.

And we are OFF and RUNNING -- SWEET
For One Pointers:
I've seen Anger Management (2003) and f@ckin hated it (I'm talking to YOU Sandler) I think it was one my FINAL, F@CK HIM, I'm DONE or right around there. And never looked back and all the more holly jolly for it.
Have not seen Atonement (2007) would like to with Knightley and McAvoy whom I both love.
Beyond the Sea (2004) was pretty cool. Spacey was great playing the crooner Bobby Darin. Not extraordinary but a very entertaining film.
Blade II (2002) was a fun sequel to the first film, going all out on the action.
Bon Cop Bad Cop (2006) was an enjoyable lil buddy-cop film, eh.
The Bucket List (2007) was better than I expected it to be. Not memorable but enjoyable
Really NEED to see Frida (2002)
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002) is silly, silly fun
National Treasure (2004) is a great little puzzle action flick
Spider-Man 3 (2007) Raimi started running out of speed with the Spider-Man series but still worthwhile
Surf's Up (2007) Like Miss Vicky I see this one once or twice a year or more. If I didn't already have several animations on my list it would have made it.
A Bittersweet Life (2005) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0456912/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) is mine.

Anyway, time for me to jump in... I've seen both, and I think both are excellent, but I haven't seen Y Tu Mamá También in a loooong time, so I didn't think it was fair to include it. Mother, on the other hand, I have in very high esteem, and even included it on my Foreign Film ballot for the last countdown. It's my favorite Bong film and I had it at #23 for this one.

Technically, no, since there are a couple that will come up while only being on 4 or 5 ballots, but I understand your point about the "hardships" of making the list
EDIT: Both of tomorrow's entries made it on 5 and 4 ballots respectively ;) but both were pretty high on those ballots, especially the one that made it on 4 ballots.
Unlike most people who see it, I find Mother only passable, but I like it a bit more than I used to. I can't even explain it since everything's in place (acting, directing, photography), but I just don't find it that suspenseful.
I think more of Y tu mamá también, but again it's difficult to explain why. Maybe you can just write my opinions off because of my weird relationships with my "Mothers".

Master and Commander: It's been a while since I saw this slow burner with an amazing focus on detail on a British ship but I do remember being quite taken by it.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou had its moments but for the most part, it was a bit of a chore for me to get through.
I had Mother (2009) at #17

Mother aka Madeo (2009)
Reminding me of a similar extraordinary aspect when I watched Edith Evans in the 24th Hof's The Whisperers, I was captivated by Hye-ja Kim playing a slightly off-centered mother; her simple son getting accused of murder and her willingness to do everything for her beloved child. It is played out within the dark-humored, well-spun tale and Bong Joon Ho's jaw-dropping turn of events. A top-of-the-line quality, style, f@ckin amusing, HOLY SH#T predecessor to Parasite.
One of the many aspects of adoration that drew me into Asian films is the poetry and symmetry that are astonishingly blended within such tragically dark and graphic events. While one may express it as excessive when commenting on South Korean cinema, it is imbued with a poetic nuance.
For me, Madeo is one such film in a sea of. And oh how I do adore the swim!
Complimenting Hye-ja Kim's performance is Won Bin as Mother's equally captivating slow-witted son, Yoon Do-joon.

Y Tu Mama Tambien
What is on the surface is rarely what is beneath. . .
And so exactly is this movie.
From the onset, knowing nothing of this movie and avoiding all the spoiler alerts, I had really begun to wonder: Wha da f@ck kinda softcore porn is this?? And then, the third act's reveal of what it really was about left me, jaw gaping, all the way to the final CUT SCENE: "Check please,"
Wow.
Much like Romper Stomper's realistic, unforgiving violence or Withnail & I (two other films in the HoF I had watched this) and I's unrepentant search for the next drunk, so is this film's use of sex. It is real, not glamorized, or with romantic aplomb and you are made aware from the very opening scene and much like the other films, there is something far more going on beneath its consistently sexual situations. And while I was already familiar with Romper and had a pretty good idea about Withnail, I was VERY pleasantly surprised to discover a similar depth to Y Tu Mama Tambien and with it.
It all came together.
The almost Tour Guide style of Narration kept me scowling for a large part of the movie and eventually succumbing to the trivia until I became engrossed by it.
Luisita's true reasons for being so upset and the deeper reason for going on a road trip and that final scene of her diving into the ocean with complete abandon along with cherishing her time with the children.
All of this culminated in the final and somber coffee scene.
BRAVO

Finally, two films I've actually seen, and one from my list!
I don't remember why, but Y tu mamá también came up at work the other day. Maybe it was foreshadowing? I like the film well enough, but it wasn't in contention for my ballot.
Mother on the other hand, was one of the first films I thought of when writing up my preliminary list, though perhaps that's because I rewatched it fairly recently (when I nominated it for a Hall of Fame). It has some pacing issues in the second half, but I just really enjoy the overall tone, and Kim Hye-ja's performance was perfect. I ultimately placed it at #8.

Mother was one of the last five or six I cut from my ballot so I am happy to see it make the collective list. Y tu Mamá También is a good movie and certainly an important turning point in Alfonso Cuarón's career, coming off of The Little Princess and Great Expectations, but it wouldn't quite crack my top one hundred and definitely not a ballot with only twenty-five spots. He only made two other features in the decade and one of them is in my top ten (and it does not involve wizards).

I see it left quite an impression then. :lol:Ha...but honestly I did think it was a pretty good film and deserving of the countdown🙂
I'm still following along more or less (chyp, your bet is still on the board). I've not seen either of the last two, though Mother seems to creep up on me from time to time catching my attention briefly only to then get distracted by some of other flick in my watch list. I made a deliberate choice to NOT watch Y tu mamá también as a coworker, years ago, rented it and raved about it. I kinda hated the coworker. Well, hate is too strong of a word (as she would say) but she was just too damn bubbly and superficial for my preference. She rented way back in the DVD by mail version of Netflix. She was the type that loved food because of how it looked or that it was a fashionable thing to eat rather than taste. That was always difficult for me to process so I never really gave her nods to films much credit for similar judgments. Yeah. I know that's weird, but it's how my brain clunks.
One day I will finally catch Mother. Not likely that I'll watch the other.

Some info about #96, Mother...
https://i.imgur.com/Fm6rsam.png
It currently has a 96% Certified Fresh Tomatometer score among critics, and a 7.8/10 score on IMDb (with 60,000 votes).
Roger Ebert gave it ★★★½ and said:
"The film is labyrinthine and deceptive, and not in a way we anticipate. It becomes a pleasure for the mind. Long after a conventional thriller would have its destination in plain sight, Mother is still penetrating our assumptions."
While Noah Gittell, of the Washington City Paper, said:
"Bong's clever screenplay and its heroic lead performance elevate a well-worn premise into a mesmerizing film."
As for our MoFo reviewers, Okay said:
"This incredibly told story deserves to be seen immediately! With its moving score, enthralling cinematography, clever screenplay and thick plot, it leaves no room for technical mistakes, which makes this one of the best dramatic thrillers I have ever watched."

And some info about #95, Y Tu Mamá También...
https://i.imgur.com/Bpy2Gr8.png
It currently has a 92% Certified Fresh Tomatometer score among critics, and a 7.6/10 score on IMDb (with 120,000 votes).
Roger Ebert gave it ★★★★ and said:
"The movie is another trumpet blast that there may be a New Mexican Cinema a-bornin'. Like Amores Perros, which also stars Gael Garcia Bernal, it is an exuberant exercise in interlocking stories. But these interlock not in space and time, but in what is revealed, what is concealed, and in the parallel world of poverty through which the rich characters move."
Meanwhile James Berardinelli, of Reelviews, said:
"It's not as awful as some of the recent Hollywood trip tripe ... but it's far from a groundbreaking endeavor."
As for our MoFo reviewers, Citizen Rules said:
"I loved the you-are-there cinematography, as it was like we were along for the ride in the Mexican countryside. Some road trip movies short change the viewer as we don't really get to see much of the road trip, but here we get to see a lot of amazing scenes in Mexico. Which I enjoyed as it reminded me of vacations I took there."
And Nope1172 said:
"The film deals with many complex themes and subject matters, and not in a way that you feel like it is being shoved in your face. Throughout the film, the characters are constantly unaware of their surroundings, and focused on their own selfish needs. This is something that I found incredibly powerful, and I think this film features one of the best uses of narration."

But guess what I got from Dollar Tree yesterday while shopping for a work "Secret Santa" stocking? Mother. It was one of three films on Cinema International that I missed that I really want to see (the other two? 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia.)

I practice this daily in the hopes that it one day becomes an Olympic sport.
A disappointingly respectable start to the countdown thus far. Hopefully the Rob Schneider comedies begin to pour in soon so that people can commence their usual bitching.
Haven't seen Still Walking or Werckmeister Harmonies (nor anything else from Kore-eda and Tarr because they refuse to cast Rob Schneider). Master & Commander sorely needed a Jack Sparrow appearance to liven things up. The Life Aquatic, my intro to Wes Anderson, left me befuddled. I'd currently rank it last in his filmography, but I also owe it a re-watch now that I'm familiar with his brand of quirk. Despite my usual misgivings towards Malick, I found The New World's poetic history lesson surprisingly entrancing. Watching Colin Farrell mack on a 14-year-old will do that to a clown. Y tu mamá también taught my friends and I to never make eye contact during a threesome. Great road movie, decent fap material. Mother was my #23 because I'm also a mentally-challenged fellow with an overprotective mother, and the director's name is Bong.
Y Tu Mama Tambien is my favorite film that features synchronized diving board masturbation

It seems that I'm a bit late here...
To start with the one pointers, none of these is mine. I've seen only three of them, back in the years - Anger Management (2003), Frida (2002) and Swimming Pool (2003). Surely, the latest one deserves much more in this party, just the names of Charlotte Rampling and Charles Dance are enough to make the movie a must for a top 100 list of a decade. Unfortunately, I couldn't give it some points in the very short ballot of 25-titles.
I think Swimming Pool was my one pointer.

Still Walking: I didn't include this, but if I had thought of it, it would have been one of the ones I considered and then ultimately discarded. I only saw it two years ago or so, and don't remember much, but I know I talked about it for days with people who couldn't have given two ****s about it. What sticks in my head about those days after watching though is the sense that I observed a real family, and like all families, the relationships are complex. And yet, at the heart of it all, the pleasures and pains of life are very simple and observable. I adored this. And it is the only movie I think I've ever seen by him.
Master and Commander - Was shocked by how much I liked this, even though I shouldn't have been because it is Peter Weir and he pretty much can do no wrong (he even made what should be stupid hack garbage like Dead Poet's Society a favorite of mine). I had no idea he directed it when it was in theatres. I don't think I even knew when I put it on ten years ago because it was the only movie lying around someone's house I hadn't seen that I was willing to. But it is one of the great expansive spectacle movies of the milennium. And it does this by making its action pop, and its characters live.

Diego Luna wore a prosthetic penis to appear circumcised?
the ending scene with the characters drinking coffee was the first scene filmed?

New World - .....................I don't know. I didn't like most of this. It's obviously beautiful and I remember fleeting moments being incredible. But...........I don't know. By far my least favorite Malick.
Life Aquatic - I think I'm quickly cooling on Wes Anderson. I still love Rushmore. And Isle of Dogs is a recent favorite. But I don't know if I really love anything else anymore. Maybe a general intense like for most of his movies. Life Aquatic though has the distinction of being one of the few of his films that I really disliked when I first saw it. But then when I rewatched it slowly felt like it was creeping up on me. I feel it takes tonal chances that most of his movies are much too rigid to dare. The film doesn't really make sense as a film (even if it might narratively). And because of this, I almost feel I might like it even more if I give it a third go. And why not, I invested in Disney plus for Get Back, and there is almost nothign else worth watching on that.
Werckmeister Harmonies - Not the kind of movie I'm going to talk about much because it needs too much space. But it's a ****ing incredible thing. I definitely prefer it to Satantango (even if it's highs are higher). But, as an aside, so much time is spent staring at Tarr's later more deliberate work that I am just going to use this opportunity to say people really need to watch his earlier and much simpler first films. I can't remember any of their names beyond Family Nest, but I love all of those. Watch them! They aren't scary and won't take too long to get under your belt (comparatively, I imagine you could watch all of them in the time it takes to watch Satantango once)

OK, I watched four movies today, two on the 100.
First, The Life Aquatic:
Decent storytelling, underuses some of the cast like Jeff Goldblum, and doesn't have as strong of an emotional ring as it's going for, but the vibrant settings and strong performances make it worth while. 73.
Second, Mother:
... What the living ****? That was one of the most nerve-racking things of all time. Excellent mystery-investigation setting, perfect performances, and I'm still getting over what I just saw. Not enough Jin-Tai, though. 96.

I think if any Rodriguez has a chance of making the 2000s list, it's Sin CIty (which cracked the Millennium list at #56) - then again, that was back in 2012 and I get the impression that people don't give that much of a damn about it anymore. I've seen all the films so far.
I remember liking Steve Zisou, but finding it kind of forgettable among all the other Wes Anderson film's I prefer, for instance, Royal Tenembaums and Grand Budapest Hotel. I'd be glad to rewatch it though.
I hated Wreckmeister Harmonies, I don't remember much of the film, but I remember it took me all my energy to finish it. I couldn't understand the characters, their motivations and what Bela Tarr wanted to accomplish by this film, not for me at all.
The Devil's Reject's is one of my good friend Derek Vinyard's favorite films (he's a close real life friend). So I watched it, but it's not for me. I don't care for gory/funny violence. The only scene I like is the free bird scene at the end which is pretty cool.
I kind of like Pride and Prejudice, but I'd rather read the book then watch this film. the actors didn't really impress me, the directing didn't leave a particularly strong impression on me. It's a good story, told in an ok way.

I think if any Rodriguez has a chance of making the 2000s list, it's Sin CIty (which cracked the Millennium list at #56) - then again, that was back in 2012 and I get the impression that people don't give that much of a damn about it anymore. Still expecting to be proved wrong on that count, though.
I thought about that, although I don't pay much attention to the millennium list.

I wouldn't have expected to see The Devil's Rejects on the list in a million years. In fact it didn't even enter my mind at all. I know it has a cult following, but had no idea it was this well-liked.
Do I think it looks good? I'm not sure since I've heard very mixed things about Zombie as a filmmaker. He's divisive in a similar sense to Eli Roth.
As for Pride & Prejudice I liked it, but am a little underwhelmed by the results this time. Hoping for tomorrow's to be more compelling.

Oh and I missed Mother and Y Tu Mama Tambien
Seen 8/8
List 0/8
Films I really like 1/8
Mother was alright to me, super forgettable. Seeing this list really makes me realize that my memory isn't as good as I thought. I don't remember most the films I've seen 4 years ago or more.
Y tu mama tambien is an excellent movie and I considered it for my list. The ''mother'' character is one of the most sexually attractive character in movie history to me. The way the two adolescent characters kind of discover themselves throughout the movie and don't know who they are is interesting. Also, it shows to which lengths human beings will go for infatuation. Super good movie, entertaining, good looking and intelligent.

Y Tu Mama Tambien - is a movie that I liked but left zero impression on me. Big time sexy sex films are rarely a big draw for me, but I remember it really being more a film in motion. Of travel. Moving through the country. I don't even remember the sex. As it is, these vague recollections of landscapes moving past car windows and not dicks boning makes me feel with a rewatch, I'll be more prepared for it to be a movie more up my alley.
Mother - another one I don't remember anything partiuclarly concrete about, and I only recently saw it. I think I liked it. I must of. All this guys movies are worthwhile.
Devil's Rejects - Is good, but as usual with Zombie, his scriptwriting really undermines his visual inventiveness, his ideas and the gallows humor that runs through his film. At the very least, lower the **** count, and this goes up at least half a star in my book.
Pride and Prejudice - a great Austen adaptation. Nothing unmanly about such things at all. Room With a View is one of my favorite movie's ever and it has hardly reduced my manly manliness a smidgen ( I am currently wearing my grandmothers knitted cardigan, as I do nearly every day during the winter....I also wrote smidgen in relation to my manliness). I like Pride and Prejudice very much.

Not much for slasher flicks but my roommate is a HUGE fan of Devil's Rejects. She even owns a copy.
EDIT Just remembered that she pressured me to watch this, insisting that it was hilarious and I'd get a kick out of it.
I didn't. And hid the experience away almost successfully it seems.
I remember seeing Pride and Prejudice when it first came out and while I don't remember very much from it, I do remember enjoying it very much when I did.
Films Watched 6 out of 8 (75%)
17. Mother (#96)
25. A Bittersweet Life (One Pointer)
One Pointers: 10 out of 38 (26.31%)
Before I get banned (right, Captain?) I want to say that The Devil's Rejects is certainly OK but not nearly as great as Sid Haig.
Now, as far as the actual banning, Pride & Prejudice is my #21. A very viscerally-directed (should I say "masculine"?) Austen adaptation with terrific performances. See it if you dare!
The Devil's Rejects didn't do a lot for me, to be honest. I may try another of Zombie's films at some point, but I suspect that what he's doing is something I'm just not that interested in.
Pride & Prejudice is a perfectly good Austen adaptation, enjoyable but not a serious candidate for my own list.
Devil’s Rejects was only on four lists so cult status is still accurate.
Yep, and that's the beauty of it, cause it ranked very high on three of those four lists (1, 5, 6, and 22). So the ones that love it, *really love it*

All Or Nothing was my one pointer: Leigh rocks
Have seen all but Devils Rejects from the list proper. Will a Mofo list finally get me to watch a Rob Zombie flick…probably not. I want to keep up my status as a big dull dud for the Captain.
I like everything else that has appeared except Werkmeister. I will definitely be rewatching that at some point as it was my first Tarr and I have liked to love the others of his I have watched.
New World is incredible. Life Aquatic is awesome but still on the lower end of my second favorite Anderson’s filmography. Glad they are both here.
I really liked Pride And Prejudice, but like a few Wright movies I was entranced, gave it a reall high rating, gushed about it for 24 hours, forgot most of it in 48. His movies just don’t stick with me but I think he is an amazing and underrated director visually.

The 2019 version, which my wife adores. I like it quite a bit, myself!Have you seen the Winona Ryder version? That's my favorite.
I'll guess The Darjeeling Limited and Donnie Darko.LOL, not even close. I guessed Darjeeling because of the clue mentioning three mourners. Now, I want to see who would win: Brody, Schwartzmann and Owen Wilson or the Fireflies.
I never thought I'd say this because I didn't like Rejects, but I'm willing to give it another chance. I did enjoy House of 1000 Corpses quite a bit, which I watched after Rejects. It's probably necessary to watch Corpses first to truly appreciate Rejects because I imagine it would play better if you were familiar with the Fireflies.
LOL, not even close. I guessed Darjeeling because of the clue mentioning three mourners. Now, I want to see who would win: Brody, Schwartzmann and Owen Wilson or the Fireflies.
The "suffering in three" line was for The Devil's Rejects, since there are three characters there suffering and/or making people suffer (I haven't seen it, so...)
I'm busy as hell at work, but I'll try and share a more concise hint for both of tomorrow's entries once I get out of this hellhole.

Some info about #94, The Devil's Rejects...
https://i.imgur.com/WITeBlr.png
It currently has a 55% Rotten Tomatometer score among critics, and a 6.8/10 score on IMDb (with 97,000 votes).
Roger Ebert gave it ★★★ and said:
"Here is a gaudy vomitorium of a movie, violent, nauseating and really a pretty good example of its genre. If you are a hardened horror movie fan capable of appreciating skill and wit in the service of the deliberately disgusting, The Devil's Rejects may exercise a certain strange charm."
Meanwhile Keith Phipps, of AC Club, said:
"It's an audacious piece of filmmaking, but after a while it grows exhausting to watch, particularly when it becomes clear that violence is going to lead to more violence without much story or conscience surfacing."
As for our MoFo reviewers, TheUsualSuspect said:
"Zombie makes a ferocious picture with the aid of a great cast and beautiful music. The film is sadistic and and throat gripping. If you're not a fan of grind house or torture in films, then you might want to skip this carnage. If you're a horror movie fan and love to see the massive slaughter of people, then without a doubt, check out this disturbing little film."
Meanwhile, Iroquois said:
"It's not so much that the film is violent and disgusting so much as the fact that it feels fundamentally pointless, unless of course the point is just waiting for everyone to die in a presumably violent fashion. It may not be a generic slasher film like House of 1000 Corpses, but the attempt to change things up doesn't feel like a significant improvement."

And some info about #93, Pride & Prejudice...
https://i.imgur.com/A0pqFC9.png
It currently has a 86% Certified Fresh Tomatometer score among critics, and a 7.8/10 score on IMDb (with 277,000 votes).
Roger Ebert gave it ★★★★ and said:
"One of the most delightful and heartwarming adaptations made from Austen or anybody else. Much of the delight and most of the heart comes from Keira Knightley, who plays Elizabeth as a girl glowing in the first light of perfection. She is beautiful, she has opinions, she is kind but can be unforgiving."
Meanwhile Jonathan Rosenbaum, of the Chicago Reader, said:
"It's a fitfully engaging romance, it's just not Pride and Prejudice."
As for our MoFo reviewers, The Gnat said:
"I really liked this film, I thought that it had good acting performances, and while not being as true to the book as the five hour version, mainly because you just can't fit everything from a book in, into a two hour film. I thought that Kiera Knightley did a very good job with that role, and I felt like Donald Sutherland did a great job as the father in the film."

I found House of 1000 Corpses enjoyable enough, but it is much rougher around the edges. Some people prefer the lighter tone, but the southern fried meanness of Rejects is much more to my taste. I still need to see 3 From Hell.

93. Pride & Prejudice
To start with, gradually and absolutely unintentionally, I've become an expert in these Jane Austen adaptations during the last ten or something years, watching them numerous of times. All this thanks to my fiancee who is crazy about the 1995 TV series starring Colin Firth. The series together with the 2005 movie been constantly broadcasted on variety of TV channels around here during the 2010's. I can say, I've seen all episodes and the movie at least seven times for a decade.
Generally, these are pleasant films to watch with very nice epoch presentation. The cast is always on top level.
As for the 2005 movie, Keira Knightley is the only disputable point among the fans. For me, she is ok. I usually wait for the scenes with Donald Sutherland and Judi Dench, what a feast...
Anyway, I've never considered this film for my list of the 2000's. Maybe, as I always say, if we had a ballot of 50 then it probably would be my #41.

So far seen 4 out of 8.

The 1995 miniseries is great. As with many adaptations of a novel, doing it as a miniseries lets you get more of the story on the screen and give the characters time to breathe. A challenge of doing Austen in a film is that her characters move toward and away from each other like ocean waves, and in a more condensed film form, it can feel too fast. The development of the relationship between Darcy and Lizzie takes time because they are both strong-willed people.
I do really like the 2005 film. It's really gorgeous and I liked Knightly's take on Lizzie. I also saw it in the theater and there was a young woman (like 14 or 15) who clearly didn't know the story and her reactions were priceless. When you find out that Darcy warned Bingley away from Jane, she was like *GASP*. I think that in terms of film adaptations of Austen, it's right up there with Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility. It LOOKS like a big-budget film, which I also appreciate.
I don't think this one was on my ballot, but I definitely respect it being on the list.

I've seen The Devil's Rejects about 4-5 times. One of my friends was an early adopter and insisted on showing it to everyone he knew. Which meant since I was living with him at the time that it would be a new viewing each and every time.
Personally, can't stand it. But I'll admit there's some moments of art about from the ending to some of the repartee throughout. A bit too ugly for my taste...I prefer House of 1000 Corpses.

Just wanted to point out that, as announced, my one pointer made it. It was Idiots and Angels, directed by the great independent animator Billy Plympton! Be sure to give the trailer a watch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaDvCEL8Dyk&ab_channel=AFIFEST
I remember being absolutely in love with this film the first time I watched it. Plympton's use of animation is ridiculously original and creative. Nothing like I'd ever experienced before. This film was also #10 on my top 25 animated movies list back in the day. If you like the trailer: definitely give it a watch sometime, just like the rest of Plympton's fantastic oeuvre (especially his 2013 feature length film Cheatin', which I also deeply adored).

Of the two new ones, have not seen the Rob Zombie movie as it's really not my type of entertainment. As for Pride and Prejudice, I did consider putting it on my list because I really enjoy this movie, mainly for Keira Knightley, whom I love! I thought she was excellent in this. Also great in the acting department were Donald Sutherland, who rarely does wrong in my book, and Judi Dench, who has a small but super role in the film. And really, the entire supporting cast is fine, with Matthew Macfadyen doing a fine job as dour-but-not-really Mr. Darcy, and for the guys, c'mon! Besides Keira, there's also Rosamund Pike, Talulah Riley, Carey Mulligan, Jena Malone, and Kelly Reilly. ❤️*🔥 But the movie, without considering the adorable ladies, is really excellent and action-lover that I am, I found myself drawn in quite easily into this film. It's a winner but I had to cut it from my list because of movies that I watch more often and therefore love more. Very interesting list so far, with variety, but then the "aughts" did have its share of variety, so cool on all counts!
EDIT: Also, Thief, I'm really liking the Rotten Tomatoes rankings. Good addition!

House of 1000 Corpses and Rejects are very different to me. Corpses is amusing but I see it as more of a horror comedy which isn't really my taste. Rejects is more a horror/crime which is very much my taste. Two totally different tones and styles. Part 3 is closer to Rejects, not as good but I totally enjoyed it.

Having seen almost all of the Millennium list I was pretty sure there'd only be a few movies on this list I haven't seen - but the results lately have been surprising the heck out of me. Although I recently watched Howard's End and Little Women and having Mansfield Park and Room With a View lined up for a watch soon, I haven't seen Pride & Prejudice yet. I watched one of those horror films with Sid Haig in ages ago, but I don't think it was The Devil's Rejects, and the one I did see has nearly completely evaporated from my memory.
So now it's 3/8 - but I remain confident that films I've seen are gonna start popping along regularly soon.

I've seen 4/8 films so far.
I've been watching one movie on the list a day. Finished Y Tu Mama Tambien. The realism of the film is very heavy, making it feel like a mostly real road trip. It had some good character development and dynamics as well. It went out of its way to be sexual a bit too often sometimes getting in the way of the story it also set up, and I felt that the narrations were overused, but overall I enjoyed it.

Also watched House of 1000 Corpses for The Devils Rejects, which also goes out of its way to do its own adult content business, but this time there's hardly any plot or character development to get in the way of. The b-movie effects and acting were right in tune with the film's approach, which I thought made the movie better than it deserved to be.

I hope it is Lars Von Trier's musical.

I'd love it if Moulin Rouge got on, even though I didn't vote for it.

The Devil's Rejects on a Top 100 of all movies from the 2000s?

And Pride & Prejudice? I liked it but it’s not on my list... anyway, those devils should've been rejected alright. It's probably Spaulding who made multiple fake accounts to get it on here.
Next reveal in a couple of minutes...

Yep, and that's the beauty of it, cause it ranked very high on three of those four lists (1, 5, 6, and 22). So the ones that love it, *really love it*

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly? Now this is a choice I can fully support!
I remember how much this movie gripped and fascinated me when I saw it. It was a contender for my list, but since it feels like something I need to rewatch since I decided not to include it.
I haven't seen any, but I've heard great things about Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I'm not sure, but I think Takoma11 has brought it up to me on a couple occasions (I might be wrong).

*Breathes a sigh of relief* I was really starting to worry that this wouldn't show up.
As those of you who know me know all too well, I HATE musicals. It's probably my least favorite genre of movies. But Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a huge exception. It's so funny and yet so moving and emotional. And the songs are absolutely wonderful. I love them so much I bought the soundtrack. I really can't praise this movie enough. I voted for it at #6 and never considered putting it any lower.
Here's a review I wrote of it back in 2016

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (John Cameron Mitchell, 2001)
Imdb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0248845/?ref_=nv_sr_1)
Date Watched: 02/28/16
Cinema or Home: Home
Reason For Watching: Hedwig is a reason unto itself
Rewatch: Yes
Behind the glamorous wigs and glittery makeup, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is at its core a story about the search for one's identity, the need for love, and the pursuit of dreams.
Struggling to cope with the physical and emotional scars of a botched sex change operation and her abandonment by her husband, Hedwig - born a boy named Hansel - takes babysitting jobs to pay the bills and turns to music to vent her pain. And it is through one of these odd jobs that she meets and falls in love with a 17 year old boy named Tommy, who is struggling to find his own identity. But like the men who've passed through Hedwig's life before him, Tommy ultimately betrays Hedwig and she is left to pick up the pieces.
But this is no melodrama. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is ripe with hilarious dialogue, thick with innuendo, and bursting at the seams with a fantastic soundtrack of songs that entertain, enlighten and work to move the story forward. Director, writer, and star John Cameron Mitchell is glorious as Hedwig, reveling in her exaggerated and flamboyant stage persona, delivering her sarcastic lines with a razor wit, and letting her vulnerability and humanity show in the quieter moments.
But his is not the only strong performance. Miriam Shor is fantastic as Yitzhak, Hedwig's long suffering and neglected partner and band member who envies the glamorous Hedwig, while also yearning to breach the emotional wall Hedwig has built. And of course Michael Pitt is a wonder as Tommy Gnosis, the boy whose very identity was a gift from Hedwig and who repaid her by stealing her songs and claiming them as his own.
Hedwig is a movie that dazzles with its glamour, but also with its color and creativity. Everything about this film pops and moves. Nothing you see on the screen is accidental or insignificant. Its imagery is evocative and enlightening and probably not moreso than the crudely beautiful animation that accompanies the philosophical "Origin of Love."
It's also a film that shifted my ideas of what a musical can be. It has made me recognize that a musical need not feature random bursts of song with choreographed dancing. It can incorporate music in a way that compliments the story and provides exposition without feeling gimmicky or at all out of place. I still generally dislike the genre but with its great humor and emotional impact, I cannot help but love this particular musical.

Now if only Quills would show up, I could really relax.
I never had any desire to watch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

No votes. I've seen The Diving Bell and the Butterfly once and remember liking it. Saw Hedwig once and remember being really overwhelmed by it (in a good way) but part of me wonders if it would hold up to a second viewing.

I'm pretty sure that's Sylvester.
A mom was pregnant in that skit, and the father was present (and he looked like Sylvester). I haven't seen the skit in a while, but I vaguely remember this clip.
EDIT: Found it. I was right about the pacing father clip, but it wasn't the same clip. Guess I molded the two skits together. Penelope is pretty much a female Sylvester anyway.

Another 'double doughnut' day for me as I've never seen either. Wouldn't be averse to giving Hedwig And The Angry Inch a go at some point but The Diving Bell And The Butterfly has never really appealed to me. I reckon this countdown will easily be the one that makes me the fattest with all these doughnuts :(

Harrowing, beguiling, ultimately uplifting true-life story of French Elle magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby (Mathieu Amalric) who suffers a catastrophic stroke and retains the sharpness of his mind while being unable to communicate his thoughts to others because all he can physically do is blink one eye. Eventually, his caregivers find a way to communicate with him, and he writes a book about his experiences from a place which no other human has ever been able to describe before. While watching this one-of-a-kind film, you'll probably experience emotions which you may have groped to express before but couldn't quite find the way, but this film should truly get your attention and make you realize how much the average person just takes for granted.

Some of my favorite parts of the film are when you hear "Jean Do" thinking, fully aware of his situation and plainly pissed at it, but all the onlookers only hear the silence coming from him. He is equally exasperated when he begins to try to use the method which has been developed for him to talk with this "normal" world since it is so painstakingly boring and time-consuming. The fact that the man could overcome everything and write such a poetic, life-affirming homage to his family and friends is truly awe-inspiring. This, combined with the fact that he loved women so much and is basically surrounded by attractive women at his hospital and can do nothing about it, only adds to the power of the film's brutal honesty. The techniques developed by Schnabel, scripter Ronald Harwood and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski to tell this story almost seem to be as significant as those of Jean Do since the film was shot on the actual locations he lived in France after his stroke and the entire film is also all done in French. Don't let any of that dissuade anyone from watching this amazing film. I'm not a fan of Schnabel's earlier Basqiat and Before Night Falls, but this film completely disarmed me and pretty much blew me away.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a solid musical about an outsider. In fact, Miss Vicky loves it and she hates musicals. It didn't make my list though.

I've heard neither The Diving Bell nor the Hedwig.
What a day.
I'm apprehensive for my list, feel that most of the titles I've included fall into the zone #150 backwards.
Seen 4/10.
None of my list makes top 100 so far.

Based on my limited countdown experience here, it seems that's not strange, since the first entries are usually filled with more random choices that sometimes *few* people voted for. As we move forward, choices obviously become more common and universal. So far, I've only seen 3 of the films.
I'm not gonna lie or hide from my ignorance. when MV first posted "Hedwig" all I could think of was:
