True, but how was this not inevitable. Outside of the crazy people who wanted to live inside of that movie, did anyone actually like it?

Also curious about Avatar's rank. I had it at #10, strictly on the merit of the astounding special effects.

I had "No Country" at #5.

#1 There Will Be Blood; #2 The Wrestler; #3 The Pianist; #4 Children of Men.

Tim Horton's is trash. I can still remember the rage I would feel whenever someone suggested we go for lunch there when on the road for work.

We don’t have them here, but I go to them when I go “home” to Buffalo. Seems like it changed in a weird way at some point. I used to think they had good doughnuts, now I feel like they are a Panera Bread. Pretty good coffee though.

I'm not a big coffee person, in general, so I can take or leave that. And, when it comes to their hot drinks, I think their London fog is better than Starbuck's (and cheaper!)

My gripe is more to do with absolutely everything else on their menu. Those sandwiches. That chili. Those donuts. It's like catering truck food.

It's the Avatar of Canadian food franchises. Except for the fact people are still lining up for it. Never underestimate the power of branding.

The real tragedy here is the lack of Monica Belluci, especially her vulnerable performance in Malena.

Her beauty is on part with Catherine Deneuve, Jeanne Moreau and Isabelle Adjani.

Sad day, indeed.

It was nice to look at, especially in 3D, the way I saw it in the theater, and severs as a nice allegory to the War in Iraq, but it really isn’t that great in terms as his (Cameron) earlier films and far from the best film of that year.

It's a weird case. I liked it well enough when I saw it in theaters and still hold the overall experience as one of my most memorable. But like most people will say, the story is not very strong and I haven't felt the urge to revisit it on TV. Not sure how it would fare for me now.

I also think that Cameron's obsession with this world has sorta soured it further for some, as people keep on questioning "why?" to this barrage of sequels.

Having seen Piranha II last week, I can safely say it is above that one :D Then again, I love all of his other films.

I would put Avatar right at the bottom of all of Cameron's movies. I tolerated it at the time, as it was a spectacle movie, and it felt as if it was something unique, a shared experience with an audience. But I think a couple of days after I saw it, I started considering its actual quality, and how lacking it was in anything I am remotely interested in movie wise, I soured on it.

It's obviously well made but, who cares? Not me.

I also suspect that the cgi won't have the same bite it did back in 2009 if I were to ever rewatch it since it has been over a decade since its release and it's likely dated at this point. Without a compelling story to make up for that, I haven't felt an urge to rewatch it.

I feel Tim Horton's is kind of food for people who've given up on life, so I try not to make their lives any worse with snark. Instead, I just quietly die as I sit there dipping my stale bun into my watery chili substance.

I’m disappointed at the lack of documentaries, as I had two (Grizzly Man and An Inconvenient Truth), but I could have easily included Murderball, as well. *

Murderball I thought of putting on my ballot but I haven't seen it in so long I didn't know how to slot it in. Is it a 15, a 20, a 25? The King of Kong made a strong push as well but in the end I just couldn't pull the trigger on either one of 'em.

What can I say about No Country for Old Men? It was my #3 and it's simply a razor-sharp film which is fantastic and even while Javier Bardem's Anton Chigurh isn't onscreen his presence is felt - he looms over everything, and it was certainly an Oscar-worthy performance. This felt like something new again from the Coen Bros - they'd gotten serious before, but this was the deepest they'd delved into the dark heart of man's lust for wealth, and the blood shed without a second thought about it's true meaning and that of life. This film is forever linked with There Will be Blood due to the timing of both films, the location where they were shot and their similar themes. It even managed to walk away with what would have been TWBB's Oscar. Both films are classics and will be long remembered. I agree with anyone who might say The Fellowship of the Ring is the best chapter in the Lord of the Rings saga, and it's the one I've seen the most. I don't count them as favourites though, so none of them made my list. Hurrah for No Country coming 1st!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Final stats and list :

Films I've seen : 87
Films that have been on my radar : 7
Films I've never even heard of : 6

Films from my list : 17 (+2)

#1 - My #3 - No Country for Old Men (2007)
#3 - My #1 - There Will Be Blood (2007)
#6 - My #4 - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
#11 - My #5 - Memento (2000)
#12 - My #12 - In the Mood for Love (2000)
#32 - My #7 - Lost in Translation (2003)
#39 - My #17 - Sideways (2004)
#43 - My #2 - Adaptation (2002)
#49 - My #8 - Dancer in the Dark (2000)
#51 - My #6 - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)
#56 - My #20 - In Bruges (2008)
#59 - My #16 - The Secret in Their Eyes (2009)
#66 - My #9 - A Serious Man (2009)
#71 - My #23 - Snatch (2000)
#78 - My #13 - The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005)
#84 - My #21 - The Man Who Wasn't There (2001)
One pointer - World's Greatest Dad (2009)
#102 - My #10 - Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
#109 - My #19 - Michael Clayton (2007)
-------------------------------------------------------
DNP
My #11 - Broken Flowers (2005)
My #14 - The Hours (2002) - Exceptional performances and a wonderfully woven story taking place in different times - with three women and their choices/fates having a dramatic effect on each other. Nicole Kidman is superb, and real-life novelist Virginia Woolf's narrated monologue at the end moves me to the point where I'm a complete mess every time the film finishes. There are not many films that leave me in such a state - so I've always regarded this film as something special.
My #15 - Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)
My #18 - Doubt (2008) - Love this story of nun vs priest where child abuse is suspected, believed - but never proven. Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman show why they are/were two of the all time greats, and the weight doubt that can on a human soul that truly believes at the same time is shown with exceptional clarity. I'm always energized by two great actors really giving their all like these two do.
My #22 - Secretary (2002) - A shaky inclusion on my list, but this tale of masochistic erotica has always put a smile on my face. I just don't know how many people have seen this, but I think it definitely has a finger on the pulse of the dynamics some relationships really work under. Not all, or even most relationships - but not everyone is wired to work the same way, and when two people meet each other like they do in this film, it's to be celebrated (with spanking.)
My #24 - Training Day (2001)

That's it! Thief - you have been the greatest host I've ever had the pleasure of being hosted by. Many, many thanks for that.

Back in early December I asked...

What will films #100 and #99 be? Master and Commander and Life Aquatic
Which director will appear the most times? Coen brothers and Nolan
How many animated films will make it? 10
What year from the decade will have the most entries? 2000

Have fun!

Nobody guessed #100 and #99, but...

Which director will appear the most times?
The Coens

Which director will appear the most times?

How many animated films will make it?

The final two. Neither received any votes from me. Fellowship of the Ring does take a while to get started and that's what did it for me. Still a decent to fairly good film. No Country had some great characters and nice moments. But the last 10 minutes knocked it out of honorable mention/bottom of the list territory for me.

Speaking of honorable mentions, here are those I didn't see on the big list:

Erin Brockovich---Julia Roberts dresses down as a woman who becomes a legal secretary to a lawyer who's representing her in a case involving a car accident. She convinces him to let her investigate when she finds some medical records in real estate files leading her to a very unexpected conclusion. The performances by Roberts and Albert Finney as the lawyer carry this one...and yes, this is based on a true story!

The Others---Although I kick myself for forgetting to include Triangle here (largely because I based my film lists from Box Office Mojo and The Numbers), I didn't forget this classic horror story about a woman desperate to protect her children from a sun which proves dangerous to them. Along the way, she fears that there's a ghost in the house. Nicole Kidman is superb as the mother and the story proves to be gripping.

Almost Famous---Teen gets a chance to write for Rolling Stone on a band on the rise. Along the way, he learns important life lessons from the band and from his experiences. Enthralling story features Kate Hudson at her most charming (shame she wasted it on some cheesy romcoms and whatever Music was) and features a strong turn from Philip Seymour Hoffman as the kid's boss. Definitely a fun watch.

Two Towns of Jasper---Yes, I have several documentaries on the list and managed to shoehorn one here as well. What could have been a gimmick in lesser hands turns out to be a fascinating look at race relations in a small Texas town (home of an infamous crime) and showcases how far the gap is between the attitudes of white people and African Americans.

Winter Solstice---Story of a father trying to hold the family together after the loss of his wife while his two teen sons start to drift apart. Luckily, he finds someone that might help bring them back together. In lesser hands, this would seem to be a trite melodrama. But thanks to director Josh Sternfeld and actor Anthony LaPaglia, it proves to be a touching and interesting story.

Up in the Air---Man who is known for traveling around the United States firing people (he's been racking up the frequent flyer miles!) finds his world upended by two women. One wants to shake up his work routine by handling the firings online while the second he meets while traveling from place to place. Good performances by Clooney as the consultant, Anna Kendrick as the young upstart with fresh ideas, and Vera Farmiga as the fellow traveler carry this one up a good ways. It helps they found real people as the ones who get terminated and their reactions steal the show at times.

The Mist---Nightmare scenario for a family man, who takes his son to a grocery store on the day that a thick fog envelopes a small Maine town. Someone or something inside that fog is killing people while inside proves just as dangerous thanks to a religious zealot who argues that a sacrifice might get rid of the threat. You feel for Thomas Jane's father as he's placed in one difficult situation after another while Marcia Gay Harden takes the cake as the zealot. The ending proved to be divisive, but I was on Team It Worked Fine.

Tomorrow or Sunday, I'll reveal what missed out from my list.

Ok, so these are the only films I haven't seen from the countdown, sorta ranked by my level of interest...

91. Hedwig and the Angry Inch

If we end up doing a musicals countdown, I hope you prioritize this. It's such an amazing movie.

Well, late to the final party...again! First of all, many thanks to Thief for an absolutely brilliant, and enjoyable to experience, job on this countdown! I will have to go backwards to check out all the lists and comments but I wanted to post this and not be too late!

Great finish! I had The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at #1 on my list. I was holding my breath (as a Tolkien Book fan) when I saw it at the cinema that it would even come close to the books and that the first installment would be great enough to look forward to the next two films. I needn't have worried. With Peter Jackson's vision unfolding onscreen for the first ten-to-fifteen minutes, I was convinced that all was well in Middle Earth. I can't remember how many times I went back to see it (probably about three more times...at least). I'm glad to see it made it to #2 at least. I kind of had a feeling because...

No Country For Old Men is a fantastic film and probably my favorite Coen Brothers movie. I had it at #7 on my list. Greatness doesn't even begin to describe it. It fires on all cylinders and is pretty perfect. People who have trouble with the ending need only look at the title of the movie to understand. But there are so many things in the movie that a film lover can sit down and talk about with another for a long time and get enjoyment out of that apart from actually watching the film. Which you would do, I'm just saying, in addition to watching...well, you know!

My list in total:
1. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2 (2001)
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 8 (2003)
3. The Dark Knight 10 (2008)
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 15 (2002)
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 63 (2003)
6. Signs DNP (2002)
7. No Country for Old Men 1 (2007)
8. Unbreakable 62 (2000)
9. Love Actually DNP (2003)
10. Million Dollar Baby 57 (2004)
11. Zombieland DNP (2009)

13. Man on Fire DNP (2004)

As I said for the previous LOTR movies, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is a good movie, but I don't love it the way most people do.

I watched No Country for Old Men for the Western Countdown because it aired on one of the cable movie channels, and I thought it was a western. It's a bit too violent for my taste, but I thought it was a pretty good movie anyway.

This was my complete list. Only four of the movies from my list made the countdown. :(

I've been reading through most of the other lists that have been posted, and I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one who voted for most of the movies on my list.

I highlighted the movies that made the countdown in green because that was easier than highlighting the ones that missed the countdown in red.

1. WALL·E (2008)
2. Monsters, Inc. (2001)
3. Mind Meld: Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime (2001)
4. Kate & Leopold (2001)
5. Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing & Charm School (2005)
6. Return to Me (2000)

Some interesting Countdown/Hall of Fame crossover facts:

Hall of Fame 15: The winner of that Hall was The Station Agent (2003). That film did not place in the countdown. In that same Hall of Fame, two other films eligible for this countdown were nominated. Both of them ended up on this countdown. Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) placed 91st. In the Mood for Love (2000) placed 12th.

Hall of Fame 18: Road to Perdition (2002) won that Hall of Fame and did not place on this countdown.

Hall of Fame 22: Inglourious Basterds (2009) won that Hall of Fame and is the only winner of a non-themed Hall of Fame present on this countdown, coming in at 18.

Have you seen the black and white version from the special edition? If not, definitely check it out.

9. Love Actually DNP (2003)
I probably would've had Love Actually on my list, but I'm not sure why I didn't consider it. Maybe it was because the last few times I've tried to watch it over Christmas, I always bail out instead of sitting through the entire thing. I do still love it overall, but it's just far too long.

I used to think they had good doughnuts, now I feel like they are a Panera Bread.
Not sure what it's like in other provinces, let alone outside of Canada, but the locations here used to actually bake the doughnuts themselves. Sometime over the past few years however, the model has changed. Locations now receive frozen ones to heat up, and all they really do is decorate them.

I'd like to dedicate this post to one of the most prominent still active directors, sadly he was totally ignored during this countdown.

Woody Allen

As always, Allen was highly productive during the 2000's. Ten top level titles were released under his name during the decade, all of them vastly anticipated by the dedicated movie societies, and most of them widely acclaimed at the notable film festivals world wide.

You know, you're right about that. Allen had some very fine films in the early 21st Century. Especially notable were Match Point and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

I watch and enjoy all of his films, but none of then made my top 10 (I only posted 10).

Unfortunately Allen is still pretty much blacklisted by most of the SJ crowd in the U.S.-- ironically the same group who never gets tired of shrieking about the Hollywood studio blacklist from the '50s.

Here is an interesting interview of Wallace Shawn, who starred in Allen's recent Rifkin's Festival. He shines some light on his snubbing:

I don't think this equivalency holds up. It is one thing to be blacklisted for political beliefs to the point that you can't find any work in the industry, and another thing to be "blacklisted" by the allegations that have surrounded Allen's life. And I use quotation marks because, although I agree that certain circles still shun him, Allen's career has hardly been affected by it.

As was said here, he has remained a very prolific director, releasing an average of one film per year; 20 in the new millennium alone, with those earning nominations for 9 Oscars (3 wins), 5 BAFTA's (2 wins), and 16 Golden Globes (3 wins). During that time, he has worked with artists of the caliber of Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, and many others.

You're right, but in the reverse order. The "political beliefs" were supportive of the overthrow of the U.S. system of government. [As it turns out those tenets are prevailing.] The allegations against Allen were tried in the SJ court of opinion, and he was convicted.

But we'd better veer away here so as not to hijack the thread, and also to avoid deletion..;)

Nope. Earlier in the thread you said it was 113th place (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?anchor=1&p=2277881#post2277881). Just from the MoFos who have revealed their ballots so far (assuming they all correctly remembered their votes) I have it at 53 points from four ballots. I had it at #6 (20 points), Chypmunk had it #9 (17 points), Mark_F had it #13 (13 points), and Scarlet Lion had it #23 (3 points).

Ratzenberger also voiced this character in Spirited Away, meaning he had a grand total of seven films on this countdown, which is pretty impressive for a single actor. He ad libbed, "Now that's an esophagus!" after being regurgitated by No-Face and they kept it in the dub. Also, it's funny that they're all voice acting roles, which I guess speaks to how Ratzenberger's career has shifted.

Haven't seen the black and white version of The Mist. I suspect it would work, though.

I guess it's time to reveal the films that didn't show up from my list:

24. Lorenzo---This Disney short was literally a last minute choice. It came while watching the laundry. Strong animated short about an arrogant cat and a curse placed on him which leads to some interesting situations over 5 minutes or so. At one point, the newly dominant tail insists on dragging Lorenzo through a tango.

23. Priceless---Again with this film (it also made my foreign list which I'll get to soon). But it highlights the ethereal beauty of Audrey Tautou who plays a grifter who falls in love with older men. As the naive man who gets shown the ropes, Gad Elmaleh proves to be a quick study. A romcom for people who don't necessarily love romcoms, there's some good comedy and some things to pick up on even as the film goes to its conclusion.

18. Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father---This documentary is at times infuriating and at other times touching as it reveals the life history of a good man using videos and interviews to bring depth to his character. Sounds like a lot of biopics, yes? Well, as the title reveals, it's meant for his son as we learn the truth about what happened to the father and who was behind it. This gives it a breathtaking immediacy. Feel free to check out The Legacy of Dear Zachary on YouTube afterwards which serves as a more uplifting postscript.

17. 500 Days of Summer---Speaking of relationship films that take unusual turns, here's one dealing with a hopeless romantic who tries to place why his longtime girlfriend recently dumped him. Much like Pulp Fiction and Memento, it doesn't tell its tale in a straight line. But it does have things to say about how we prioritize the good times in a relationship and sometimes miss the warning signs until it's too late. Well acted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel and directed sharply by Marc Webb.

12. March of the Penguins---Nature documentary from National Geographic Films focuses on emperor penguins and the challenges they face as they try to breed in Antarctica. The harsh conditions, hungry predators and the increasing distance to get food for the baby penguins and the parents prove to make the task difficult. Throw in the dulcet tones of Morgan Freeman as the narrator and you got a fascinating science lesson with a gripping story.

10. The Visitor---A New York professor becomes aware of immigrants that have been tricked into living in his home. But he decides to let them live with him which proves to be life changing for the three of them at least until circumstances take a turn. Thanks to a great turn from Richard Jenkins and solid direction from Tom McCarty (Spotlight), it manages to follow the beat of its own drum.

7. Man on Wire---The true story of a French daredevil who risked his life and freedom to do a high-wire tightrope walk between the Twin Towers. It plays as one part heist movie as he gathers a motley crew of people to help him accomplish this and one part portrait of a fascinating man. It also serves as a reminder of what we lost in 2001, an innocence that appears to be gone with the American terrorist attacks.

Pretty much everything but TV shows was game. I think a few people asked about documentaries in the Preliminary thread. Anyway, Man on Wire is indeed pretty good. What's amazing to me is that they managed to create tension without any actual footage.

As was mentioned a couple of days ago, there was a minor issue with votes for films with identical titles. We managed to catch a couple of these during the voting process, confirming with voters regarding their intentions, but two got by us: one that didn't have any impact in the countdown, and another one that shifted the bottom 10 (90-100) a bit.

I will post the reveal for the film that managed to get in in a while and edit the list in the second post, and Yoda will share the whole spreadsheet for everyone to see later. Our apologies for this and thanks for your patience and understanding.

For what it's worth, the other one I mentioned was The Return (2003), which has an identically titled Bizarro cousin from 2006 (https://www.movieforums.com/movies/10093-the-return.html). After correctly assigning the votes, the Russian film ended at #118.

Holden Pike

As was mentioned a couple of days ago, there was a minor issue with votes for films with identical titles. We managed to catch a couple of these during the voting process, confirming with voters regarding their intentions, but two got by us: one that didn't have any impact in the countdown, and another one that shifted the bottom 10 (90-100) a bit.

I will post the reveal for the film that managed to get in in a while and edit the list in the second post, and Yoda will share the whole spreadsheet for everyone to see later. Our apologies for this and thanks for your patience and understanding.
Having hosted and compiled two of these, it happens. I had a mistake in the '70s list as one ballot had the English title and another the Italian, and it was a title I had never heard it called before. Luckily for me that only made a clerical difference whether it was #403 or #338 or whatever, nothing that had an effect on the Top 100. And on the Westerns countdown, there were so many remakes with the exact same title (True Grit, 3:10 to Yuma, The Magnificent Seven, The Alamo, etc.) as well as films with very similar titles (Unforgiven vs. The Unforgiven) that I had to double check the intent of ballots all the time. Very easy for one or two to slip by when you get such a robust number.

No biggie. Glad it was amended.

Thanks. I think that the biggest issue is with foreign films because in most cases, the system forces you to write the title in its "romanized" form (i.e. "Madeo" instead of "Mother", or "Vozvrashcheniye" instead of "The Return"). If you go for the American translation, however popular it might be this side of the pond, the intended foreign film might not come up, thus ending in a "misplaced" vote.

Yeah, and if MoFos haven't played around with the custom lists feature yet, it can be tricky. I had to contact Yoda serveral time when making my lists that no matter how many ways I tried it I couldn't get several movies to populate.

No system is perfect. Still better than wresting with an Excel spread sheet, I reckon.

Yeah, still some growing pains, but this is the type of system that definitely gets more robust as time goes on, so all the bug reports and corrections really add up and help. Should see some big strides this year.

Great advice, the TMDB/IMDB link option should be full proof.

I was brainstorming on this, and I think I could also find a way to warn people if they pick a lesser-known film by mistake. I believe TMDB has some popularity scores in their API that would probably correctly warn people the overwhelming majority of the time if they picked the wrong film, since even a popularity approximation is almost always going to correlate to what someone's voting for. I can't think of many/any situations where two films from the same general time period with the exact same title would be likely to make the same list.

Even IMDb has the rare hiccup that I've come across so a "perfect system" isn't going to happen but I always use it and Yoda's Voting System has been Aces for me and with his dedication, it'll only get better. So, no worries.

Multiple versions, as well as Language, must have been an utter headache for past Countdown Hosts having to use spreadsheets and I cannot express my appreciation enough for keeping it all together as they all did.

Whenever the MoFo War list comes around I am gonna try and turn people on to Joyeux Noël. The 2000s saw a bit of resurgence in German cinema with The Lives of Others, Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, The Baader Meinhof Complex, Downfall, Das Experiment, Schultze Gets the Blues, The Counterfeiters, John Rabe, Nowhere in Africa, Forest for the Trees, and Good Bye, Lenin! to name some of the highlights.

both [There Will Be Blood] and No Country for Old Men were shooting at the same time in Marfa, Texas. When PTA and his crew were testing the effects of the oil derrick fire, the huge smoke column delayed the filming of the Coen brothers until the next day.

Marfa, TX first became famous as the location for George Stevens' classic Giant (1956) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean.

As I've implied in other posts, a lot of my choices were personal favorites over some measurable, objective standards. For at least a third of those selections, those had to be weighed against other, similar genre movies as there's just not enough room in a 25-spot list for a more accurate representation. Some movies in my list received somewhat arbitrary leverage based on my own logic. For example, Coraline claimed the spot that might have otherwise gone to Spirited Away as I found it just a bit more interesting and worthy of representation. Though both deserve to be listed, only one could make it relative to all the other hard choices I was making. Another example, 40 Year Old Virgin trumped my comedy options such as Super Bad. I just have to give props to that Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In cover, pushing it to the lead. Moulin Rouge! just barely beat out Chicago.

Both Cloverfield and The Mist had to be in my list somewhere as they were just great fun in spite of their flaws. The endings in both made up for any of the negative, IMO. I am surprised that Serenity, as an excellent sci-fi action flick, didn't land, but I am most disappointed that Training Day did not make the 100 list. Only slightly less disappointing is knowing Good Night, and Good Luck missed the run as well. I expected both to have more sway here than they seem to.

I completely forgot The Watchmen was from this decade which would have easily landed within my top 10. Forgotten as well was Open Range. I just didn't consider either assuming they were newer films, though I believe Open Range likely would have just missed my own list desperate for other genre representation. Shame, as the only reason for that is the 25-spot cap and the amount of other movies that won my internal representation wars. Another movie that I'm excited to notice creeping into the conversation is Triangle. I love this movie!!! Unfortunately, its B nature just couldn't hold on against the avalanche of so many other picks to weigh in.

Even Kung Pow: Enter the Fist just barely won against Pootie Tang. it came down to cherry pie vs weee-oh-weeee-oh and Black Betty vs Pootie's new hit single, " ".

The one movie from my list that really never seems to find attention, and the one I have to whole-heartedly suggest if you like odd, stream of conscious, surreal type of movies is Slipstream (2007). This movie was written, directed, and scored by Anthony Hopkins, also playing lead against an excellent ensemble casting (John Turturro, Michael Clarke Duncan, Jeffrey Tambor, Fionnula Flanagan, Kevin McCarthy, and Christian Slater, just to name maybe half). And the underlying theme is script-writing!!! That should feel right at home here. Someone pick this up and watch it!? Sedai, this is for your list of pickups.

The following trailer is how the movie plays. No typical trailer gimmicks or edits were added. This is how the movie is.

Makes me even more mad that only one person voted Treasure Planet.I know! I had a real hard time deciding which of those top 3 on my list was going to get number 1. They all have special significance for me (I was joking in the shoutbox about how my list shows I got daddy issues), but in the end I went with the one that was technologically best.

Treasure Planet animation was easily the best work from the 2000s, but it continually gets slept on. Probably didn't help that it was crazy expensive to make, so I don't ever see Disney doing a feature film like that again. Which is a travesty because that was the future of animation I was promised as a child. I'm looking at you Beauty and the Beast.

As to The Fountain?
:highfive:Re Training Day: Antoine Fuqua doesn't get half the respect he deserves. Besides Infinite, there's not a single thing of his that I didn't enjoy, and Infinite was only bad because of the writing. So Antoine Fuqua probably saved it from being worse than it would have been without him.

Re The Cell: That movie is peak Lopez. I thought it was an odd choice for her to star in that movie, but I appreciate the boldness of it. That movie still freaks the hell out of me, though. I didn't rewatch it for this countdown but I knew it had to go on the list.

Re Munich: Mossad spies in a 1970s period piece. That's really all of a reason I needed.

Re Black Hawk Down: I had a thing for Eric Bana in the 2000s, and this was one of his better roles. I had read the book in middle school and, if it hadn't been for my parents dissuading me every chance they got, I would have enlisted right out of high school because of this one.

Re Monsters, Inc.: This is the best Pixar movie ever. Period. I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. xD

As for The Fountain, it's no secret that's my favorite movie of all time. I've seen it far, far too many times. More than I care to admit. And I cry every time. I almost put it at number 1, but I was delusional to think anyone else was going to put it on their list. Glad to see we put it at the same spot. I only did that because I wanted to give my top 3 a fighting chance. They fought but had no chance. :(

I thank God the same title mishap on mine did not change the list in any way. I remember I mentioned that a last-minute list changed the #1 spot, which ended up not being true and some people were more than curious when the math didn't match up.

Whoever voted for Kung Pow deserves all my praise. I wouldn't have had any problems putting it on my list. It still stands as one of the most hilarious theater-going experiences I've ever had.

In retrospect, after having said that I had trouble even coming up with 25 from this decade, now I feel like there's a few more films coulda made it for me like The Proposition and A History Of Violence, both of which I considered and could really have maybe kicked out a couple of the lower ones, but I went with my heart and I'll stand by my list.

omg whoever placed Escaflowne and Casshern on their list (and I have to assume it's the same person!), you might be my bff now. i forgot about both of those flicks. Escaflowne, if I remember, seemed like it didn't know where to go but I loved it.

That reminds me of Kai Doh Maru (2001/2003). I landed on these three about the same time and had no context to their release dates way back then, but own two of three on DVD. I loaned out Kai Doh Maru because I wanted to share its creepy minimal beauty, but the friend never returned the disc. I kept telling myself it's ok. Just spreading the gospel, so to speak. After all, I could just order a new one! Now some near twenty years later I still don't have it.

Man. I'm glad to have noticed that on the spreadsheet. Thanks!

My embarrassingly terrible list that I made in about ten minutes.

I know I'm, pretty much, alone in this, but I think if you've made a list in about 10 minutes, then thought about it for an hour (or whatever) and the vast majority of that list isn't the same, I question whether or not they're favourites.

Very late I know, but congrats to Theif for their excellent hosting and presentation. As well as the rest of you for making a terrible decades films into a countdown which, for the most part, held my interest and I enjoyed following. :)

I know how that sounds, but for those of you who know me, you'll know how much I really don't like this decade and therefore, it's well earned praise.

.

What I have in my list are definitely favorites. And I don't think any of them are undeserving of being in my top 25. My main issue with it was that I kind of grabbed at some of the more obvious picks that I could remember. I would have preferred a few more odd ducklings amongst my selections as I don't think my list was really that reflective of my overall taste. Because I really like a lot of dumb stuff, and there is little evidence of that here.

Why were you in such a rush to make your list? Did you procrastinate until the last day to submit it, or did you just want to submit it fast and move on to other things?

I only like making lists quickly and with as little thought as possible. Usually, they come out better than this one. I think I just haven't seen enough movies from this decade for me to be able to completely wing an interesting top 25.

That's why we get three months (or more) to make our lists. That gives us time to watch more movies before making our lists.

I think this holds true for the all time countdown, where it's really just your 25 favourite movies, but for other, more niche, countdowns, your top 25 might not all be die-hard favourites, just the best of that particular genre/decade/whatever. And knowing that in ten minutes assumes either a better memory than some of us possess, or a thorough approach too keeping records of all the films you've seen. I often find that my top 10 for a list is less likely to change the more I think about it, but 11-25 might well do, especially if there are more films than the number of slots that I like approximately equally.

Sorry about that. It wasn't meant that way. I just meant that as long as we get three months to make a list, doesn't it make sense to use that time to watch (or rewatch) movies so you end up with a list that you're happy with when it's done?

Damn. Gutted I missed this but it's been absolutely ages since I went on another accidental hiatus.

My list would have been something like:

Memories of Murder
Inglourious Basterds
Werckmesiter Harmonies
Inland Empire
There Will Be Blood
Before Sunset
The Limits of Control
The Host
Gosford Park
In The Mood For Love
Kill Bill Vol. 2
Kill Bill Vol. 1
Miami Vice
Hidden/Cache
Waking Life
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Mulholland Drive
Borat
Chicken Run
Munich
Mother
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Coffee and Cigarettes

That's just thrown together very quickly and roughly though.

I've seen 76/100 films on the list.

Edit: Already noticed I missed out this list's number one film, that would be in my 25. But you get the idea... most people who know me on here would know the sort of film's I'd include. I'll have a look through the list properly soon and maybe posts some thoughts.
