Dorothy Malone is cool:up: That's called back lighting or rim lighting. The photographer has an additional light behind her head.
In the 1950s after the Soviets launched Sputnik and the atomic age, everything was about rockets and space...The cars had big fins and girls has missile cone bras!
I heard once that young guys in the 1950s who first got to see their sweetheart's topless were disappointed to find out that they weren't pointy at all!

God no. It's almost robotic. It's very silly too when you get it in period films, like Janet Leigh in The Vikings.

Yes I did a subject back in the day which is why I talk about my love of CS Bull. I did an assignment on him. Didnt learn a great deal in the course - B*W developing, but the photography assignments we had to do on a famous photographer were intereting. I initially wanted to do it on Mapplethorpe but the lecturer told me it was too much. WTF? We're adults! He was a bit of a nerd.
Wow Rules. Thank you so much! Really fascinating and ofcourse I should have known it would influence fashion. I was chatting to myself recently about how film is affected during the era and talking about how a lot of currecnt stuff in film is affected by millennial changes in society (the era, not just the generation) and how Soderbergh has now shot a film all on iphone.

And I wasnt talking to myself. I was talking to my sister. My lord, my brain had the lights turn off momentarily, as it is want to do on a regualr basis. Still waking up.
Anyway, I told her to check out a tribal rug store owned by a pakistani, kurd, afghan etc. More recent tribal rugs have motifs of kalashnikovs, tanks, planes, choppers, drones. Tribal rugs also get affected by eras. Fascinating stuff, so thanks once again for posting. You guys should do the same although beware the carpet salesmen. They're pretty slippery, but it's a fun experience.
Um back to photog - yeah hobbyist as well. Too much talent out there with technology these days for me to compete, Rules. I'm a luddite. For me photography is my way of telling my trvel stories so I regard myself as a diarist, a street photography and an all round travel photographer. It's a log of my travel memoirs. I'm also pretty private about it because it's personal stuff about my feels when I'm travelling.

Leslie Caron - Cap, I think she has been mentioned here. Stunner! Just so European and the epitome of chic. I still remember that purple dress from the video Saunch posted from seeing it as lil kid. And holy ****e she is flapping stunning at 87. What an outfit!

Yeah he sort of has, and I mean this in a loving way, that sort of nondescript but lovable face, like the average boy next door who was not going to go out and be Blue Steel and annoy the crap out of everyone with his fakery. But 6'3" and swoon.
What do you think of the scarf tied around the neck and the soft cashmere twin set, Cap? My face is pretty angular at the mo with the pixie hairdo a la Leslie so might give this a go today. I've always liked twin sets since my mum sent me off in one to my first birthday invite that I remember at about 2 or 3 (it was 'lemon yellow' she said, and I cried because I thought canary yellow sounded better) but I've never liked anything remotely tight around my neck as far as scarves go, but my neck is a bit scrawny at the mo as well so nice way to hide it with a bit of colour.

Sadie Frost and Winona Ryder in Bram Stoker's Dracula. I never liked Winona as an actress but I cant deny how pretty she was in this movie.
And Sadie was super pretty as well but the character was such a slattern, but not in this picture. Such an old fashioned word.

I’ve liked Winona before but she’s a good example of what I mentioned in the Game of Thrones discussions about actors/actresses finding just the right thing for their capabilities. That’s not a bad thing, btw.
I’m kind of so-so about her in Dracula. On the one hand, it kind of fits as the movie owns up to a lot of its flaws but, specially contrasted to Oldman, Hopkins and Tom Waits’ approach of devouring every inch of the scenery, the high-school drama class romance between her and Keanu drags and outright stops the gleeful fun to be had.
Edit: I actually liked her in Stranger Things, despite my not being too crazy about the show. It was weird, mainly because I haven’t seen many of her movies, to realize that the aimless girl from Night on Earth was playing the mom in things now.

Yes I liked her in the movie with Jolie about mental health (name temporarily escapes me), and I liked her initially in Stranger Things after I dropped it at the pilot because she was in it but picked it up again. I thought she was really good as the highly strung mum with a missing child. Like REALLY good (not yelling), but half way through she started over acting IMO. For me she always tends to push it just a little bit too far eg Black Swan and Strnager Things, where I get distracted by someone acting when I want to forget that. Otherwise I just avoid her if she's in a movie.
And yes to actors finding their one perfect role. It;s not a bad thing, I agree, but it's very one note. Not necessarily their fault either. It might be the roles they are given.
Back to Winona, you make a very good point about her and Keanu, but I found their accents so fracking bad I want to punch something every single time I watch that movie (and I really love Keanu but I thought hs was badly cast in this). He cant do Period, period! And yes to the other actors you mentioned eating up the screen.

That's the one. First time I kept putting it off because winona is one of my actresses that really puts hair on my teeth and I pass over movies because of her. I know she's super popular, and that's great and I'm happy for the people who like her. When I finally saw that movie, and even on a rewatch, I really loved her performance. I thought she deserved the oscar rather than Jolie.
Kidman is another. I dont know what it is but she annoys the hell out of me. I did, however, really love her in Lion. I do, however, think she is STUNNING and I appreciate her beauty. Same with winona.

She was super cute and very friendly! I debated whether to tell her I thought she looked like Winona, but then decided not to (people don't always react positively to being told they look like someone famous or someone "infamous").
Then I thought, since she looked only maybe 19-years-old, she might not even know who Winona Ryder was. I've never seen her there again, but ah, I'll never forget the lovely deli counter girl. :)

So sad she got so unwell. There was a video of her at a Stranger Things panel and the poor love really looked like she was either off her meds or had swallowed a cocktail of sorts, but that's negative so one more beauty shot. I dont want you guys thinking I'm bitching at her. My favorite thing with Winona is Heathers. I just think she fit that role like a glove. Captain Steel, that top pic of her in the red top...she is just beyond beautiful in that! I know she's younger but it's the happy look on her face that really moves me. And all the pics in this page are great! And Dani, I really like that "Penelope Cruz look-alike" photo. OMG! A comment about an actress getting plastic surgery and there is no vicious negativity. What a lovely surprise. Good on you, Dad. I dont know when she had work done but that poster is seriously airbrushed.
I really think its medication related. There are a lot of photos of her looking wide eyed and wired. It's either prescription meds she has played with or other stuff. I know she has been a substance abuser in the past. She's also quite puffy in the face in stranger things. That's an indication to me of mixing certain prescription meds and booze.
But back to nice stuff. This is an appreciation thread and as I said, I dont want anyone to think I'm being a downer about winona because I think she's beautiful.

Yeah, it is, but any pic or gif I tried to get of her from Batman Forever has her too much in shadow or some other garish color that Joel Schumacher got out of his coloring box for the two Batman movies he did. In other words, no natural tones that I could find. But then again, I didn't do an exhaustive search. Just trying to get people to recall her look from that movie. She also looked pretty fine in Moulin Rouge!. Probably my favorite looks for her. That, and a few scenes from Eyes Wide Shut. :)
EDIT: Saunch, I just saw that you picked her Satine character's looks and I just missed it while I was typing this out. I agree with that, too. I like that kind of "tiger snarling" gif there. Yum!

Me too, although the blonde hair seemed a little odd at the time – as if Bruce Wayne could only be romantically linked with blondes. Then Uma Thurman rolls up with bright red hair in the next one :D.

The unfortunate thing with The Time Machine is that if you were going to adapt it really faithfully, the Eloi would probably look nearly as scary as the Morlocks. I suppose not having any eye candy would be a hard sell.

Dadgum: Yes, watched Glass Slipper not too long ago. I was thinking how many times can you watch yet another version of Cinderella? I dont like Tess in Westworld acting wise. Maybe not so much the acting as the character. I think she's incredibly beautiful though. She's fabulous as Valkyrie. Fantastic, fun movie! That' such a good character for her, and I think she has said yes to the sequel?

I am just having a rewatch of "Entourage and she's in it. Seriously, the character is such an utter bitch I cant warm to her. I will say, however, she acts like a man in a man's environment without losing her femininity and trying to have a pair of balls like most actresses tend to do with a role like this eg Charlotte Hale in Westworld. 10 points for that. Nice Carla pics all the way down the line! I liked her in Sin City although it was a small part. Not many pics I can post from that as she was in a pretty constant state of undress. Here's one I did find that was okay.

I went to watch this film for 3 solid reasons---
1) Tamannaah

She with the milky white body.....
She with the luminous face lit like a million moons.....
She with the thousand watt smile....
She with the beautiful light eyes....

She with the delicious curves and delicate body......
Her first hindi film....
.......And even before it was launched she was already inhabiting the realm of my dreams.....
Not since Dia Mirza ( my fave ) and Aishwarya Rai has a woman caught my imagination like this one has......
So inspite of all the brickbats it was getting in reviews I was drawn to this film like a moth to a flame.....
Come hell or high water I was going to see this film....
And so I did.....

And I returned home a fulfilled man.....

But I went home a satisfied man.....
For I had seen a movie containing the gorgeous Tamannaah.....
But you wont get such satisfaction from the film.....

Well, I wasn’t thinking suicide, specifically, but, yeah, certain characters have only others as their lifeline, narrative wise. Missendei is one. Tormund, another. Bronn should’a gone a couple seasons ago. Jorah too. I should update that dead-pool.

I haven't seen this interview before but I totally agree. I was doubled up watching that scene and pretty much the whole film. I like the 'up yours' moment as he walks into the party as well.

I love her voice. She's beautiful enough just to look at it, but when she talks, I'm swooning about and I hope no one sees it! :o She almost makes MacGruber into a four syllable word the way she drags that uuuu sound out.
