Anna May Wong I think she was stunning, although I have to admit, I have seen her only in The Thief of Bagdad so far, in a minor role (but she shined in it!). Piccadilly and Shanghai Express are arguably her two best-known and the former's poster has her topless, which additionally peaks my interest. She really was the first female Asian star in Hollywood. No more white people made look like Asians*. :)

Quite unrelated to this thread, but worth noting is the fact that the first Asian star (and perhaps the first beau) in America was a Japanese actor Sessue Hayakawa. Even though he became a sex symbol for many American women, he had to face racial discrimination and anti-miscegenation laws. When anti-Japanese sentiment in the US proved too strong, he moved to Europe, where he met with the German occupation of France. He even joined French Resistance. He starred in dozens of films, but he's best known for his role in The Bridge on the River Kwai for which he was nominated for Oscar. In the 60's he's become a Zen master. He's had a very interesting life. It's worth reading up. After watching some more Wong films, I may delve into her biography, too. Perhaps her life was similarly interesting.

Yeah, it's a shame when actors don't cross over into certain genres. Actually you've just reminded me of the different adaptations of Wallander, where you often see the same actors appearing in different series, even our British version in fact. There's an actress who played a nice, warm character in one of Rolf Lassgård's films and then a really frightening psychopath in the Krister Henriksson series. They have some incredible actors in Scandinavia :).

When a show can be binge-watched that's a sign that it is a great show. There's a huge difference between watching something for 45 minutes once a week & then going on with one's life as opposed to watching several episodes at one sitting.

Elizabeth Olsen is great, and a way more talented actress than her sisters.

I've recently become quite taken with Shailene Woodley. Two weeks ago I did not even recognize her name, but as I was watching The Divergent series I recognized her as the girl from The Spectacular Now. So I started looking up some of her other films. The Divergent series doesn't have the best acting, but she is actually quite a talented actress. The Fault in Our Stars is probably the best I've seen so far, where she stars with another member of the Divergent cast, Ansel Elgort. They make such a great couple.
