The lovely Lizzy Caplan.
Now you're talking.
I remember seeing her in New Girl very early in the series and thinking "Who's that?" It was funny to then find out she'd been Janis Ian in Mean Girls – she was great in that.
Caplan is up there with Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the list actresses who are adept at everything they do but never seem to get the recognition they deserve for it.

Yeah, maybe that's true.
I loved her in True Blood.

Honeykid, nice choice with Lizzy Caplan. She's a beautiful woman and fine actress. I remember, after seeing her in Cloverfield, finding out that she was Janis Ian in Mean Girls, where she was hilarious. My favorite line of hers from that movie:

D_chatterley, Kristin Bauer van Straten is very nice-looking. I've never seen but a few episodes of the first season of True Blood and if she was in it, I can't remember. I do remember Lizzy Caplan in it, though. :randy:

Wait....you remember Jason's one time fling but not vampire Pam??:eek::eek:
Lizzy Caplan is certainly pretty, but had a very minor role. To be fair, I think Kristin's role expanded much more in the later seasons.

Like you said. I remember Lizzy 'cause I knew Lizzy, and except for Anna Paquin, she's the only one I remember. Very few episodes watched. Lost HBO soon after. That's the story, it ain't changing.

BOP, Gina Philips is definitely a gorgeous woman! When I was younger I watched Dallas the TV show and loved Mary Crosby in it. When I saw Jeepers Creepers, I thought Gina looked a lot like her and that was fine by me, but now, looking at your pictures, I can see that she's better looking that Mary Crosby ever was. Not that Mary was a slouch, if you get my meaning. :p

Well in the UK she's probably best known for Poldark but she's been in Jack the Giant Slayer as well. It was interesting to find out that she'd played the young version of Jessica Biel's character in The Illusionist as well – I liked that film a lot.

Thanks Dani for posting that pic. I didn't know who it was, so I read about her and she has a tragic story:(...Are you a fan of hers or just find the pic? I've never heard of her, though she was in Little Miss Marker with Shirley Temple and was on the fast track to becoming a big star back in the 1930s.
I'll have to watch one of her movies, she only made 3! that's the same number as James Dean and sadly they have more in common.
Dorothy Dell...began entering beauty pageants when she was a teenager and in 1930 she was crowned Miss Universe. She moved to New York City where she appeared in The Ziegfeld Follies.
At the age of eighteen she went to Hollywood and was quickly signed by Paramount Studios. She was given a prominent role in the 1934 film Wharf Angel. Her performance earned rave reviews and critics predicted Dorothy would become a big star.
In the Spring of 1934 it was announced she would play the lead in the drama Now and Forever. Dorothy's career was taking off and she had finally found true love. She became engaged and was busy planning her wedding.
On June 8, 1934 she attended a party and while driving home at 1:00 AM the car hit a boulder and flipped over several times. Dorothy was killed instantly. She was just nineteen years old.
Damn sad:(

Moran Atias, very nice and first time I've really noticed her, although I think I've seen her in a movie or two.
Emily Browning is just one of the most beautiful creatures alive. She is also a fine actress.
Katherine Waterston, nice pic! She's been heavy on my mind since seeing her in Alien: Convenant. She looks beautiful, long hair or short, brunette or dishwater blonde:

Aside from her being gorgeous overall, there's something about Kat's eyes that I find seriously attractive. You can see it in that second image you posted.
I also liked her in Alien. Just saw that one yesterday. Fun movie.

Blix, Tamara is beautiful. Second ballet dancer I see here. Probably good enough reason to start following the sport/art.I can't deny that the reason I first became interested in ballet is because of the pretty, and quite flexible, girls in tights. Frankly I'm shocked that other straight men aren't more intrigued by classical dance. Since then, I've come to realize it's one of the most beautiful and expressive art forms ever created. It amazes me how choreographers and dancers can tell a story and bring tears to my eyes just through body movement.
I'll go ahead and post my all-time favorite ballerina, the great Viviana Durante. Her dancing is beyond magnificent.

I've actually had a curiosity for it since I was a kid but it never grew into a serious following. I learned about the physical and mental requirements for ballet as a kid and, probably, due to that I didn't dare participate.
Out of this, however, stemmed a more profound admiration for the dancers than that I've had for Soccer or Baseball players (the two dominant sports of my childhood).
It's beautiful work. Don't know how else to put it. Tamara and Viviana are incredible.

Sauch, Carey Mulligan is so sweet-looking. She's got beautiful eyes, and that cut little smirk of a smile. Good actress, too. :)
I really enjoyed Glenda Farrell in Mystery of the Wax Museum as the wise-cracking, tough cookie reporter who provided comic relief in this horror movie. She also played the character of Torchy Blane in a series of movies, who was very much like her character in the Wax Museum movie, yet with more emphasis on comedy. She was also in many classic films like Lady for a Day. Little Caesar, and The Talk of the Town. I found her quite attractive, although she may not be everyone's cup of tea:

And Saunch, thank you for that pic of Gemma, sweet Gemma. How I love her! She was great in The Disappearance of Alice Creed as you said. Have you seen her in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters? It might not be your cup o'tea, but if you're adventurous, you'll have a good time. It's all spooky, funny nonsense and Gemma is beautiful in her tight leather fighting outfits, with her killing weapons. Also, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time---not a classic, but once again Gemma raises it up above junk.

I was watching a movie called Criminal on cable last night and kept wondering who the beautiful lead actress was (the credits came only at the end). I didn't feel like pausing the movie and checking out IMDB, so I waited and was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was none other than our new Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot. That movie has like one of the craziest cast-to-movie quality ratios I've ever seen.
Kevin Costner (impersonating Nolte), Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Alice Eve (wondering how she got on the set), Michael Pitt, Gal, of course.
Even Scott f***ing Adkins. And Gal's fellow DC alum Antje Traue for a little bit!
Even then, I think I turned it off at the 20 min. mark.

I trying not get too excited about Wonder Woman since I've heard good things from a source I trust but, as I said in the film's respective thread, there's some cheeky joy to be had in the idea of Diana finding success where Batman and Superman couldn't.

You are such a gentleman, Saunchy. I was looking at that photo thinking about how sexy her legs are, and I don't even swing that way.
You're right. She has a beautiful smile. Super pretty.
Gemma Arterton is gorgeous, and I have this lingering feeling that I've seen her in a pretty good movie before Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (witch I wasn't a fan of btw), but unfortunately none of the movies on her IMDB seem to be the case. I've seen RocknRolla, but I don't remember her in it. It might have been Byzantium, but I can't really remember if I've seen it or not. One movie of hers that I do really want to see though, is The Girl with All the Gifts. That looks like an interesting zombie movie.

Oh, yeah, she was in RocknRolla (for like two seconds).
I'm not a huge fan of that movie (or Ritchie, overall) but it's a fun enough watch. I "discovered" lots of great actors in it - Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Mark Strong, Thandie Newton, Toby Kebbell and Gemma.
I liked Byzantium but I felt there was a better version of that story. Like I said, more interesting than good.
Ronan sort of runs away with the movie, but our girl is good in it.
I've heard good things about The Girl with All the Gifts. I'll try to check it out.

Ha, I actually remember Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman, commenting on how all male superheroes have impractically large arms and thus she wanted Diana to be on equal footing so, to Jenkins, this meant she had to have very long legs.
https://s29.postimg.org/onz1608vr/IMG_8368.jpg
I don't remember the difference in Batman vs Superman but I'm wondering if they'll go for the look she had the comic The New Frontier where she stood about a foot taller than the rest of the Justice League.
I always liked how this affected the dynamics she shared with the team, such as being able to literally look down on Superman.

Mark Strong
Mark Strong always seems to have been under the radar a bit. Pretty sure the first time I saw him was in Our Friends in the North. Daniel Craig as well, unless his Sharpe appearance was prior to that series.

Yeah, Strong is good but underrated.
Well, maybe not as a villain.
He's heartbreaking in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as a guy who gets the rug pulled from under him far too often.
I bet he could have been a good James Bond himself, had they decided to go more traditional to the original novels.

Yeah, he's really the only great part of that film apart from Gary Oldman, who raves about Strong's work in it himself :).

That's right :).
Yeah, I like her too. I was doing a modern recast of Blade Runner a while ago and I was happy to associate her with Pris.
I've been thinking of revisiting the one I did. I had Mackenzie Davis as Pris in that one but as a general rule I won't cast any actor who's already appeared or is appearing a Blade Runner movie for the new one. (Though you could make a pretty solid Blade Runner '82 recast with the 2049 cast).
I don't know Kaya well enough to fantasy cast her as anything yet but she's got very delicate features that I guess would make her a fun pick for an artificial character.
Pris is surprisingly hard to cast, actually. You need a kind of fantasy beauty that Daryl Hannah had but also someone who play up danger.
There's something so predatory about Roy's gang that doesn't seem to come naturally to the modern actors who fit the general mold of the previous ones.
I'm still working on it.
dadgumblah
05-28-17, 07:16 PM
Well, I'm anxious to know how the recast goes! Sounds like fun. I'm interested in who Zhora and Leon would be. I think Leon would be harder to cast than Zhora, but I'm up in the air about Leon also. Like you said, Roy's gang is a toughie.
Zhora might be easier. I mean, she's sort of just there to die. It gives way to one of the more poignant moments in the film (Deckard buying a bottle and half heartedly trying to share himself with the vendor) but it's not a role that requires much thought.
Leon, on the other hand...
If Dave Bautista wasn't already in the sequel...
Not enough brutes in Hollywood today.
I'm thinking of following some of the original cast considerations to make things easier.. For example I'm looking at Lupita Nyong'o for Rachel, going off Ridley's original idea of Grace Jones in the role.
I guess that means I should look for a Dustin Hoffman-esque Deckard.

Wow, I can't see Hoffman as Deckard, even in a recast. You'd need a more muscled, street-weary type that can fight replicants. Now Debbie Harry, I like that idea, mostly because I like her and most of the movies I've seen her in, she could act and had great screen presence.

I had similar issues finding a suitable Roy as I did with Pris.
I remembered something I read from Philip K. Dick and how he envisioned Roy as this large, aryan being. I can think of a lot good actors like that but they all lack the menace of that Hauer had.

I don't know Matthias Schoenaerts that well yet but I can see where you're coming from.
Michael Fassbender's a good example because in Prometheus he plays with masculine and feminine and that affords David a lot of menace. One of the moments I'm thinking of is his intonation and physicality on David's "Sorry, poor choice of words". Hauer was definitely operating in similar waters, suggesting a being that really wasn't a man or a woman despite the external appearance.

Was gonna go with Lauren Bacall for the '40s, but that was too obvious. So how about an actress I've never heard of, from a Lon Chaney Jr. horror movie I've never heard of (Calling Dr. Death)? A win-win!

40s has a few obvious answers. Bergman was my first thought.
For a more "outside the box" pick, how about Maria Montez?

From the old days of Hollywood when having the slightest tan meant you could play an Indian, a Mexican, or any Middle Eastern nationality!
Oh, wait, that's still true.
1950s, however... surely there is only one answer.

I think pretty much all of them from 50s. Anita Ekberg anyone?
http://bump.ru/resources/000/000/000/000/490/490506.jpg
Ekberg is so beautiful and seeing her in La Dolce Vita... oh my god.
60s is nigh impossible to choose from. Hepburn is probably the most obvious pick but not without good reason (IMO, the most beautiful movie star ever).
Claudia Cardinale, Angie Dickinson, Ann-Margret, Anna Karina, Janet Leigh, Jean Seberg, Jeanne Moreau, Julie Christie, Joan Collins (the J's)...
But I'd feel guilty if I didn't mention Julie Andrews. Not as prolific a legend of the era as the other actresses I mentioned but, after Audrey, the one that had the most impact on me.

Anita Ekberg might have been my first pick for the '60s -- she's blown me away in more than one schlocky horror movie, and what more can I ask of a woman?
But in the spirit of going more obscure for this batch, I'll go with Judith Ridley from Night of the Living Dead. They may have been coming to get Barbara, but Judy would have been my choice.

Well, it's evocative of it's time period. I could see it done today but only because it so quintessentially 1920s.
Timeless by way of being very of its time, y'know.

The '80s is a tough one for me -- it's when puberty hit me full blast, and they all looked so good I didn't know where to start. Oh well, I've already posted on one obvious choice, Kathleen Turner, so maybe as an '80s slasher fan I'll go with the Final Girl of all Final Girls, Jamie Lee Curtis:

No, I disagree. The hairdo, the makeup, Clara's dress & shoes could be worn today by any Vogue model & look completely fresh.

Maybe, but I can only imagine it on a model who's going for a retro-chic look.
Are we still on 80s? Angela Bassett. My bro knows her and he said she is incredibly down to earth and sweet

Yma Sumac (dont know who she is either but what a gorgeous mouth)
She is not so famous for her acting, but her singing was ridiculous. One of the most unique voices in history and biggest vocal ranges. An operatic voice who never sang opera. She was more into what's known as exotic music. Quite a fascinating performer to watch and listen. She died a few years back, but toured extensively from 50s to 90s.
P.S. Fast forward to 2:40 :eek::eek::eek:
