I don’t know what my favorite Von Trier movie is, but it’s neither of The Nymphomaniacs and it certainly wont be any film he does after.

Anyhoo...:) Nice Lena Olin pics! I like Lena. I know it's really a hit-or-miss with most people, mostly miss, but I love Romeo Is Bleeding (1993), with Lena and Gary Oldman. She is one of the craziest psycho assassins ever on the movie screen. I recommend it just for the zaniness of it all.

Very very horrible.
I didnt know anything about that movie except the name, and thought it was going to be a horror film so waited until Mr D was away for work and settled down for a lights off scare fest. It opens with an in your face sex scene, like I'm talking about close up 'junk cam' (I thought someone in the shop had mixed up the DVDs), followed by a very distressing scene that sets the 'mood' and story. Found out years later when I was talking about the 'junk cam' he used 2 porno actors. I didnt think American movies (as opposed to pornos) could show penetration? Needless to say it was very different to what I expected.
The only Von Trier movie I’ve seen is Dogville and I liked it because it was different.
Come to think of it, that’s probably my favorite of his. I saw it when I was still a kid and I couldn’t believe someone had made a movie that way but it’s probably more memorable to me for how bitter it was and how it contradicted every part of the ideal image of the country I was still being taught in school.
“Is their best really enough?” is one of my favorite lines, too.
Von Trier is pretty hit-and-miss for me though and, from interviews and, well, that Cannes appearance where he tried too hard to be edgy, I’ve never really liked the guy’s personality so there always that while watching his movies. Antichrist, at least, gave us this poster:

Thanks for the remainder to check out Lady Macbeth. I’ve heard lots of good thing (mainly The Witch and Wuthering Heights comparisons). Pugh (nice name) is very pretty and, more excitingly of all, is starring in Park Chan-wook’s adaptation of John Le Carre’s The Little Drummer Girl. I can’t wait.

One of my favourites. It's quite funny that on TV here in the UK they just keep showing First Knight and Legends of the Fall over and over again :). Sabrina's another good romantic role of hers. She worked with all the heart-throbs didn't she?
She's really good in Smilla's Sense of Snow (1997), which was my introduction to Nordic Noir without even knowing about the genre at the time; plays quite an abrasive character. Captives (1994) is also very interesting. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw her in Albatross (2011) and I've said before I think it was a stroke of genius to have Felicity Jones playing her daughter. I wonder who was cast first?

Dogville is a brilliant movie, as is Breaking the Waves. Could not get into Antichrist at all. In Nymphomaniac Charlotte has a self-induced abortion. Now that was scary to watch & to listen to. :eek:

It's still incredible the roll-call of stars she made films with early in her career. Kristin Scott Thomas is similar in that regard.

You think that Scott Thomas is not a major movie star?
If you notice I was comparing the actresses based on the amount of star names both worked with in their early films. For instance Scott Thomas and Ormond co-starred with Harrison Ford.
I may be wrong but I imagine Kristin Scott Thomas is bigger in France as she continues to make films there.

Yeah I agree - from both genders. Just does nothing for me. Same with underwear on show. I will never get the thong display or undershorts and low, low jeans. Just makes me want to tell them to pull their pants up.

Yeah pretty sad, isnt it, yet women of exotic looks were admired so go figure. There's a black and white movie about it which I saw when I was a kid. The heartbreak on the mother's face is still in my memory.

OK it's random question time for ya'all on the question of appreciating beauty.
A woman posted a photo of her daughters on fb saying modelling agencies keep contacting her saying the bubs are beautiful and wanting to take professional photos of them. Yeah, pretty damn cute. As the kids got older (about 7 now) super beautiful; the whole family is.
OK that's the back drop.
She's now getting comments telling her to stop sexualising her children.
WTH???
Since when could people not say Hey I think my kids are beautiful or Hey I think your kids are beautiful without being told they're sexualising them? I dont get it. Is this a recent thing?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's really recent. I just watched a 2018, ahem, Hallmark Movie with her in it, and she looks exactly like the pic I posted. She's still very fine!

Joan Marsh was very lovely. She was in a couple of movies I've seen although I'm not sure I remember what scenes she played in. She was in Idiot's Delight (1939) with Clark Gable and Norma Shearer and in Road to Zanzibar (1941) with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Quite nice! Here she is again:

Road to Znzibar I really want to watch. I;m sure I saw it when I was a kid but need a rewatch to see if they actually shot any scenes in Zanzibar. Stunning island, and 2 beautiful women.

I know Bing wound up with her most of the time. But Bob got her at the end of The Road to Utopia, when the two guys were separated by a chasm of ice, with Dorothy on Bob's side. LOL I saw that on imdb back when Hannibal was on. I cant remember what that campaign was about but something to do with dept of fisheries cleaning up waterways when she was filming in UK.
