Worst movie since Chronicles of Riddick...A Violent Past

After having seen A Violent Past my friend has undergone a mission to refund everybody who ever bought a ticket for that movie in America. I was so moved by this movie in a such a negative way that it has actually affected me positively. Does that make sense? Probably not, but it makes a hell of a lot more sense than this movie. Why God??? Why did you make me watch this???

I literally joined this forum for the sole purpose of bad-mouthing this movie. That is not a joke. I have never been a member of any movie forum ever in my life. I looked up reviews on A Violent Past to see if other critics laced into it the way that I had on the way home. To my surprise, it got fairly good reviews. Is the entire world on crack? That is not likely. It's probably just me.

This movie sucks so bad I encourage you to see it. You will probably lose your mind like I just did at this moment. You just witnessed a transformation my people.

Can we try with real bullets now?
I've never heard of A Violent Past.....the only thing that comes close is A History of Violence......I feel so uninformed

You're right. The damn movie is so horrible, I forgot the name of it. A History of Violence. But come to think of it, it would be far better to refer to this movie by the wrong name so as to blatantly disrespect it.

I thought A History of Violence looked good has anybody else seen it?

A little more detail into why the movie is so bad might go a long way in helping your boycott, otherwise I am probably going to see it and pay for it in a day or two.

Looks good to me. I tend to like many Cronenbergh films, and will most likely give this a go.

Webberific... Can ask how old you are?

7thson,
Let me begin by saying "box-munching." Talk about one of your all-time awkward sex scenes. I was embarrassed, and I was only with my friend and my brother. The plot was pretty much non-existent throughout the movie, then just completely fizzled out after an hour ("36 minutes of this movie to go???). This movie used cheap shock tactics in an attempt to keep the interest of the audience. Cheap Shock Tactics = 2 unnecessarily messed up and long sex scenes + Gruesome, Gruesome violentness. Don't get me wrong, 7thson, I love my sex and violence - but not when its inundated in TERRRRRIBLE acting.
But I actually want you to see it and give me your feedback. Just try not to pay for tickets though.

I saw A History of Violence this past weekend and my opinion is drastically different.

Although I'm not so sure we saw the same film, what were you expecting when you went to see A History of Violence?

It was not an action-driven plot, but completely character-driven. The (second) sex scene was purposely awkward. Also, the film has "violence" in its title (plus, it was directed by Cronenberg). From what I got out of the film, it wasn't supposed to be an overblown adult blockbuster of violence and sex like you seem to be misadvertising. I don't mean to be a troll, but I loved this film--as a whole--not because of Viggo or the sex or the violence. Are you sure you understood the film? It seems like this film is flying over a lot of viewers' heads.

i saw this movie because of the graphic novel its based on. I thought it was good, even if i did laugh at the carpet munching.

The very last scene in that movie was just down right silly and that is what kept myself from actually giving it a decent rating.

And there was one extremely funny scene in that film that had the quote "How do you fu*k that up?" in it. Anyone who had watched it should know what i'm talking about.

Lets put a smile on that block
I hate Cronenberg so i don't know if im going to see it.

I got for good luck my black tooth.
Well I saw the film and as you instructed I did not pay for it (gift certificate ). I didn't like it a whole lot (though I did rather enjoy the sex scenes ). It hinted that the audience should feel suspense, but it wasn't there and little effort was made to put any there. It grasped for drama but constantly failed to catch it. The theme was good but it didn't go anywhere and framed by this bland film it fell flat. The one thing about the film that impressed me was the ending, never before have I seen the entire audience react to a film in this particular way, it was very amusing and demonstrated nicely how people put unreasonable expectations on movies. Anyway I'd give it probably a C-. I didn't hate it like you did. I just felt kind of indifferent.

First time posting here so please be patient. I saw History of Violence yesterday and enjoyed it. I didn't think it was quite as good as the reviews I've read. Someone looking for nonstop action like Sin City or Kill Bill may not like it.

I thought Morgenstern was fine but the outstanding performance IMO was Mario Bello. I'd like to see her in a strong leading role, even a fantasy/action film like Lara Croft or Aeon Flux. This woman has a strong, intelligent and competent screen presence.

I also liked William Hurt as a violent/psycho mobster. Hurt has been "floating" in recent years but maybe he's found his niche in this kind of role.

History of Violence is a modern "gun fighter hangs up his guns and tries to go straight but bad guys come to town and force him out of retirement" movie. It goes a little deeper than that but that is the general premise. More attention is paid to the reaction of his wife and family than was seen in the old westerns.
