Iron Man. It was ok.

Iron Man. I liked it better than any other film based on a comic book because it had the possibility of being real. I mean, he wasn't a superhero or anything. Great effects, fairly intelligent dialogue and very entertaining.

28 days...6 hours...42 minutes...12 seconds
Forgetting Sarah Marshall

and then...

IRON MAN.

I have seen the movie THE GOLDEN COMPASS.In this movie daniel craig has done an outstanding job and the role of nicole kidman was beautifully fabricated.

The last movie that I saw in a theatre was.....you all guessed it...
West Side Story, at a venue in a neighboring state, the Albany (NY) Palace Theatre. I never get tired of seeing this great golden oldie-but-goodie classic film. Imo, the MGM quote "Unlike other classics, West Side Story grows younger" rings true.

there's a frog in my snake oil
Speed Racer

Possibly fun for kids who like having chunks of CGI vomited at them

What was good?

Some of the wry retro 60s feel was well handled in a day-glo way.

The strange marriage of flappy-mouthed old-school anime and salt-on-eggs americana became a bit cloying at times tho. And what the kids made of the strive-against-capitalist-b*stards plot is anyone's guess. (They mainly seemed to like the shouty 'john belushi' kid and his ape sidekick).

Why it was bad?

On the whole, this was a well-intentioned revamp/homage to a daft cartoon - but one that didn't need to be made. Coz it doesn't work. This stuff needs to be episodic, like the original, or it just swamps the young minds it's supposed to appeal to. The races are the key example. In line-drawn form the rapidly interspersed 'narrative' of racing carnage still works - coz your brain is engaged in interpreting the relatively sparse visuals. With the CGI incarnation you get a lump of preformed blur that is mercilessly proceeded by the next before any part of your mind can get much of a handle on what's going on. It just becomes an unremitting succession of 'who cares' chaos.

Perhaps the Wachowski's should stick to what they've been good at (creating adult carnage and wearing half a dress). Ach well.

Killer fact: 'Racer X' looked like Ben Affleck in DareDevil. This film will fail.

IRON MAN. Loved it. All kinds of fun, and the comeback of Robert Downey, Jr. What's not to love?

Come back? Was he gone?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Zodiac, A Scanner Darkly, Wonder Boys...

I thought he was great in all of the above. I think he has been back for a while now, eh?

True, he certainly is great in those films, but they were his way of building trust back with the filmmaking community. Everybody knows what a genius he is, but, as Jimmy Kimmel said in his interview with Downey the other night, he was an unreliable genius. Up until Mel Gibson cast him in The Singing Detective, no one would touch him with a ten-foot-pole.

Now, he's a bankable, reliable, insurable (is that a word??) genius!

Said by the person who's signature currently boasts 4 out of 5 ratings for both Meet the Spartans and Scary Movie 4. So, you know...consider the source.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,

If you've never sniffed the pages of the books or seen LOTR then you may enjoy this flick, there is a scene towards the end that is such a total and completely ridiculous LOTR ripoff I almost yelled at the screen. Oh well, just killing time until Indy 4 next week anyway.
