it'll come to social network and king's speech, but i was particularly happy that true grit has managed to get 10 nominations.

my gutz tells me it will be a repeat of 2006 , best picture and best director will be different.

The only surprise nomination for Best Picture is Toy Story 3.

Glad to see True Grit got so many nominations. I think Jeff Bridges is deserving of Best Actors. But recently the Oscars have made some odd selections so who knows.

I sure was pleased to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 earn a nod for Art Direction. I raved about its aesthetics in my review and it's really nice to see it get some formal recognition, and not get brushed off as some trite family film. The animated interlude alone is worth the nomination.

Would have liked a Best Director nod for Nolan but what can you do. Typical Academy Awards really. Not sure why I even bother with em.
At least it got a best pic and screenplay nod. Surprised that Lee Smith got snubbed in the editing category, though. I would have thought that category would be the film's best chance at winning. I still haven't seen The Social Network, which is annoying but I sure do hope it's worth the hype. Personally, I wouldn't mind Aronofsky winning for Black Swan. I can see Portman stealing the gong too.

If there is a God in heavan Inception will win zero awards. But recently the Oscars are all about these artsy, gimmicky movies so I won't be surprised if it wins a few. The kids loved it for some reason.

The stubborn old farts hated it for some reason. Probably many of the same reasons for both, actually.

And there isn't a God, or a Heaven. But what that has to do with the Academy Awards has me stumped.

I think Bridges performance was great but I think Colin Firths performance was to good to go unnoticed and he will take home the statue.

They are not going to give Bridges an Oscar for playing Rooster Cogburn because they already gave one to Wayne for playing him.

Has there ever been two different actors who won an Oscar for playing the same character?

Affirmative. Brando and DeNiro won it for playing Vito Corleone in the Godfather films.

I haven't weighed in here about this, but I see nothing special in the 2010 version of True Grit. I cannot believe it got the nominations and I still can't believe the Coen Brothers wasted 2 hours of my time.

The King's Speech, otoh, so glad to see it nominated! Colin Firth is magnificient! I also saw The Social Network and I thought it was pretty compelling. The King's Speech got into my heart, though, so I'll root for it....

(I knew I should have written a review on that film.....)

Still don't like the 10 BP nominees. Think it's stupid.

28 days...6 hours...42 minutes...12 seconds
And there isn't a God, or a Heaven.
Apparently Holden's knowledge expands to greater things than just film.

Kenny, don't paint your sister.
Impressive how fast you got these together, Holden.

I made my predictions, but honestly about half I had no idea so I just hit some random ones. Lol.

Unstoppable (yes, it is an Oscar nominee) is released February 15th. The documentary Waste Land will be released on DVD two days after the Oscars, February 27th. Inside Job's release date is March 8th, and Hereafter March 15th. Disney's Tangled will be March 29th.

I'm upset that Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis didn't get nods, they were both incredible. I think Natalie Portman will go home this year with Best Actress and Colin Firth will go home with Best Actor, and Best Picture will go to The King's Speech
