Disney buys LucasFilm, Star Wars Episode 7 slated for 2015

I'm really not sure what to think of abrams directing star wars. I honestly was hoping for a no name or even low key director to step in and make his debut. These big shot directors are kind of like factories...they just spit out product...they have nothing to prove like an up and coming director would.

Thing is though, a small time director would never be given a property like Star Wars.

Abrams has forged his career over many years, proven himself more than several times, and has only relatively recently come to the forefront of cinema, so he's hot property at the moment.

Years ago it was Lucas, Spielberg, Donner, Cameron... they now are Uber-Directors with the power to do whatever they want.

Abrams is currently at a time in his career that Lucas was in when he was making The Empire Strikes Back after he'd proven himself with Star Wars... or Spielberg when he was making Raiders Of The Lost Ark after proving himself with Jaws.

As far as studios are concerned, Abrams is the current big thing. Gone are the days of guerrilla filmmakers getting a monster budget.

Personally, I think Abrams was the right choice.

With what I've heard, he's using CGI to enhance the scenes rather than blanket and using less greenscreen, and will be using miniatures as well.

He's also taking his time over the preproduction... which is also a good thing.

Abrams is a fanboy at heart... and having a fanboy with the knowledge of a seasoned Director in the head chair on a Star Wars film is always a good thing.

You make valid points. He did lost correct? One of my favorite shows. I just didn't see the the star trek movies really go beyond "action movie" status. We all want star wars to be original and...special. I hope he can make something special rather than just something thats a one size fits all.

Its like the difference between a super fancy italian meal v pizza. They're both delicious and sometimes we even prefer pizza but...would you want to propose to someone over pizza? So we'll see, maybe hes got what it takes!

We've gone on holiday by mistake
One major thing he's got going for him is that the Prequels sucked so bad he simply cannot do worse. Like starting when the expectation bar is so low compared to following the legendary original trilogy.

Something way better than the Prequels but not quite reaching the heights of the first 3 and I would be content.

Two running titles, that Lucas conceived of before he sold the rights to Disney.

I have seen another one though, mentioned a few times called A New Dawn... and another called Shadow Of Victory

Cthulhu's Press Officer
I'm personally quite scared.

And the expanded universe is...gone. Good.

Must be doin sumthin right

Full cast announced. Love it. Only question for me is JJ Abrams.

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.

The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Ahhhhh I just realized Yoda probably won't be in the new ones. I don't know why that didn't occur to me before but now I'm incredibly sad.

In the Beginning...
I'm actually pretty impressed with the cast choices, particularly Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac, and Max von Sydow. Big fan of all those folks.

Now, if they can just get the most important actor locked in, they'll be ready to go.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Order Of The Jedi

Not sure if this has been said yet, but this is the rumoured title.
