Name of the movie

Hello all, I am trying to find a movie which i don't know the name of. The plot revolves around a desert wasteland and empty cities in the future. There are robotic "balls" the travel through the ground (digging I presume) and search for living organisms and when they find said organisms they shoot out of the ground and cut the organisms till dead. I say organisms because early in the movie a rodent is kill by one of the "balls". If any one knows the name of the movie i would greatly appreciate it.
