As a movie buff, what self-made achievements are you proud of?

celebrating birthdays are kinda weird too.
Unless you're an LBA (Living Beings Anonymous).

I've had enough fun in my life to last a thousand lifetimes.
Pictures or it didn't happen.

I've fired out over 300 approved reviews on MoFo... and up until my exile about 3 years ago, I was inside the Top 10 reviewers on the site in terms of numbers, reps, and comments

For the #1 movie site, that's been going for 25 years, I'd say that's a claim to fame.

I'm only ten away from 300 myself. But most of them are five-stars, so I look a bit hyperactive on them... Gonna have to make a bigger habit of reviewing lower quality films.

Here's a challenge...

Two of my lowest rated movies for your collection... call it a... I dunno... a balancing act...

House Of The Dead (Uwe Boll)
Alien Hunter (2003, James Spader movie)

Might get some attention

I don't really care much about reaching exactly 5,000 or 10,000 films. It's not like my goal is to stop at that exact number, so why would I value that? That said, I will be proud when I reach a point where I feel I've seen enough films to semi-retire from film watching or where I feel 'free' or able to focus on a new hobby, should I decide to.

As for it not taking any effort to watch films, I'm at a point right now where I'm self-aware that movies have taken over my social life and am torn between whether I should embrace that and become a Minio or if I should slow down and focus on other matters. Depending on which mind set I lean to on a given day may require me to give some effort to pursue one mindset or the other. I'm aware my situation is probably a unique case though.

Here's the thing... our man Mark F watched around 60,000 movies I think it was on his imdb account.
And he had an eidetic memory on all of them so he answered pretty much all of the questions posed in the questions tab

Mark was the man... man.

60k plus... and remembered all of them.

I once asked Mark if there were any movies he didn't like... his response?

"None"

Legend in every right.

And he also maintained a social life in the process of all that.

@Yoda @sarah f did I get that count right of 60k plus?

I remember there being a journal of movies he wrote at some point that had more movies than were in his online accounts?

If anyone had the right to brag about movie knowledge, it was our man, Mark.

Lord, I have a lot of movies I didn't like - I can't imagining liking some turd like Madame Web... though I guess it was fascinatingly terrible, like I couldn't stop watching, and I kept wondering why they thought this or that was a good idea (performance, script, direction).

Movies have always been a part of my life, but how much I watched has shifted from time to time, like when I was doing the music thing, playing live, doing studio work, I wasn't watching as much as I do now that I'm retired. And it was also part of my social life, it wasn't like, "I'm ignoring the wife to go to movies... you sit here and pine for me hon" lol - nope she was there, dinner and a movie. Or friends hanging out, let's go see something.

Brain condition... causes mini-strokes... also got hypertension... my last BP reading was 130 over 100 with a beat rate of 135pm at sitting and 75% oxygen.

Spent the past 4 years or so on edge expecting the inevitable so my time on MoFo was limited until I decided enough was enough and got back into the game

Any day now I might stop posting online, so I decided to come back to MoFo

That was the thing with Mark.
He said all movies had production value, of all the people involved so he loved the effort people put in, regardless of the outcome.

Yeah, but that only takes you so far, I guess I don't have the pain threshold some folks do. I appreciate the effort, but you hurt me, hurt me bad.

The Guy Who Sees Movies
Movies are a life-long thing for me too. It goes back to when I was a kid, lived in a small town and went, with the other kids, to a Saturday afternoon matinee re-run of various kid-friendly movies like Treasure Island, Around the World in 80 Days or The Forbidden Planet (which scared the crap out of me, the Id Monster).

I've never stopped since then and don't plan to stop until nature has other plans for me. My tastes have matured and, instead of the small-town "bijou", it's one of my downtown city venues, proceeded by dinner in the food hall. I've never wanted to be systematic about it....just the "movie of the night", whatever that is.
I don't think of it as an accomplishment, since it's enjoyable. Going to a movie in a real theater, downtown, getting some dinner and drinks....that's a nice way to spend the evening. I'm lucky enough to have a number of in-town venues that offer good movies and good atmosphere. I'm not nearly as fond of the suburban places, although we do have some good examples of that near me.

As an accomplishment, that fact that I still do it and that it's enjoyable, is pretty good.

I've seen the above. Several Uwe Boll movies were considered for my bottom 100, but only one of them, being House of the Dead, has made it. There was a time when Alone in the Dark was there, but even 6/100 didn't stay for long with how often I've researched director's filmographies if just one of their movies makes MST3K.
