Victim of The Night
I also rewatched Dark Night of the Scarecrow after many years, and I'd forgotten just how good it is. Great characters, great setpieces, fantastic suspense and mystery, and a killer last two minutes.
Also, DNotS is absolutely aces. I've wondered if it isn't the best made-for-TV Horror movie of all time and should be in the discussion of best made-for-TV movies, period. Charles Durning is so everyday-sinister.

Yeah, I think Hell Night is a new favorite. I'm such a sucker for movies where you really like a lot of the characters and it's not just one or two nice people and the rest are throwaways.
The likeability of everyone was one of my main takeaways.

While Salem's Lot can definitely get a little shaggy at times, and its central love story is a total dud, it has at least a dozen absolutely fantastic, maybe even essential horror moments, that it's got to be the best made for tv horror movie by default.

What do you think of the original Don't Be Afraid of the Dark? For my money I think that's the best made-for-TV horror movie.

It's certainly up there. I have to say, however, that When a Stranger Calls Back is maybe my number one currently. Also starring Durning! Maybe he's the TV movie secret ingredient!

A strange figure followed me, its shadow stretching longer with each step… but when I turned around, there was nothing there.

Maybe it was just my imagination—or maybe I’ve watched one too many horror movies

I like 'Salem's Lot and I know what you mean about the moments, there really are some great ones, but I think Scarecrow is a just a tighter movie.

This was going to be my exact comment. It is AIRTIGHT. I'm not really concerned about ranking it against other movies, but for the movie it's trying to be it's pretty much flawless. Not a wasted second.

Agreed. Not a scene out of place, and everything that happens matters. At the same time, the film doesn't rush things, like the tense conversation between the mailman and Marylee at the carnival.

Probably the best scene in the movie to me.

Victim of The Night

I didn't expect this movie to be so sad.
Been meaning to get to this for 15 years and finally just schlepped it on this morning. Enjoyable, good 50s British Sci Fi movie though maybe not quite as interesting as some of the hype I've heard (yes, I've heard Quatermass And The Pitt is supposed to be the best one). Donlevy just feels like an odd choice as Quatermass and apparently the writer wasn't happy at all about this closed-minded American stomping about as opposed to a more thoughtful English scientist but them's the breaks. Richard Wordsworth conveys tremendous pathos as Victor. Unfortunately his wife, Judith, is played by Margia Dean, one of the worst actresses I've ever seen. Said director Val Guest, "...sweet girl but she couldn't act." Apparently she was an American beauty-queen who was having an affair with the president of 20th Century Fox.
The story is pretty good for 1955 and it feels like this maybe had more influence than it's given credit for, though I suppose it's possible with so many of these things coming out in a short period that other films might have had the same or greater effect.
But, as I said, this movie is also pretty sad. Victor, or what's left of him in there, appears to be having an awful time being taken over by the space-gunk. He kills with tears streaming down his face and struggles mightily not to hurt people before the gunk takes him over completely.
Definitely an enjoyable enough watch even if it could use a little touching up with its casting.

It should come as a surprise to no one that a movie working as a whole is little concern to me.

I will take a handful of great moments amidst a bunch of dull ass shit, over something that consistently works but doesn't have those extreme highs, nearly any day of the week.

And you know that I would very often agree with you. I guess I just hold DNotS in a very, very high esteem. The moment you start to understand, which is done subtly through dialogue and acting not exposition, that Charles Durning's Otis Hazelrigg is actually not just a really shitty dude who hates developmentally delayed people and feels he needs to protect the children from them but is actually

a pedophile who desires Marylee and his act of murder was really a somewhat calculated one of jealousy and possession... I mean, the small-town mailman is a pedophile who killed over it. He's the real boogeyman of the movie and the Scarecrow is actually more of a just spirit of vengeance.
That's the "Dark" part of Dark Night Of The Scarecrow.

Death of a Unicorn was quite good, after you get past the slow start. The creators really wanted to drive home the 'anti-wealthy' message hard, leading to a 40-45 minute wait until human blood begins spilling.

After the kills start, it's a fun monster movie with plenty of unicorn related murder.

They even give it a heartwarming ending.

Picked this bad boy up today:

I watched Return of the Living Dead 2 last night, it drops the pitch black comedy and nihilism of the original for much sillier comedy and a decidedly upbeat ending. It feels like someone wanted to take the general concept of the first film and make it palatable for a much wider audience. The more slapstick comedy actually landed pretty well for me but even though I generally enjoyed watching it man is this a huge step down from the first film. None of the jokes hit the same way that moments like "send more cops" does. Also the original had a beautiful if tragic sense of humanity and this just has gags and more gags, nothing to really make you feel for it's characters. Yeah I could probably go on so repeating, didn't hate the film but doesn't hold a candle to the original.

RotLD 2 is a movie I saw on TV growing up. I can't remember much about it other than some key plot points. People have basically told me as an adult it's instantly forgettable.

Now, part 3, is the one I only saw bits and pieces of on cable as a teen. It looked bad, but in retrospect, it, well, was probably still bad, but an interesting bad and would be curious to see in full as an adult at some point.
