Movies like White House Down?

Tools

I just watched the movie 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi because it was mentioned in another thread. This is my kind of action movie. I watched White House Down and London Has Fallen a while ago. I liked the old 24 TV series. I am looking for recommendations of not very well known movies like these. I probably have watched any well known one already.

Like, defend a building sort of thing?
Stuck on a place with no escape?

Fallen has a trilogy...
Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen

There's also Die Hard kicked off the trend of fighting in a building... Dredd (2012) is one of the best Die Hard clones of all time... The Raid (I think has two or three movies) has a lot of fans.

Under Siege 1 and 2 Steven Seagal movies. The first one is the better of them.

Con Air (Nick Cage)
The Rock (Cage and Connery)

Sudden Death (Van Damme)

Harrison Ford movie Air Force One is decent.

Dwayne Johnson did a similar movie called Dwayne Hard... sorry, Skyscraper.

Executive Decision (Kurt Russell)

Speed (1994) Keanu Reeves is a good 90s actioner, but not "trapped in a place" movie. Decent film though.
Judgement Night, Emilio Estevez movie is ok, but again, not exactly trapped in one location, it's about a group of friends who get chased through a rundown area of their city after witnessing a murder.

Wesley Snipes "Passenger 57".

Toy Soldiers (1991)

Phone Booth isn't action but has the trapped in one location thing going on... as does Money Monster from 2016 with George Clooney.

Don't Breathe turns up the horror and shock-horror with a little action as well.
Not for the faint hearted though toward the end.

Have you seen 12 Strong? Great film.

Couple more suggestions:

There's also Schwarzenegger's return to cinema with The Last Stand.
Defend a town from a drug lord who's on the run.
Another Schwarzenegger movie is The Running Man, about a guy who is trapped inside a sadistic TV competition.

No action, but "Ex_Machina" is about being trapped in a remote place, with an AI.
Really good psychological movie. Easily one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time.
Again though, no action, just really solid script and screenplay.

Event Horizon, Paul WS Anderson is a good horror actioner.
More horror than action.

I Am Legend (Will Smith)... horror sci-fi with action in spats.

Talking of Schwarzenegger... he teamed up with Stallone on Escape Plan.
Ok movie.
The sequels were dumb though.

Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 all have the "trapped in a place" thing.
Aliens is more action based... Alien and Alien 3 are more horror than action, but Alien 3 Assembly Cut is better than the cinematic cut.

A superb action comedy satire is Tropic Thunder (Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr)

Low budget horror Critters (1986) has a little action... mainly sci-fi horror though.
Trapped in a farmhouse with little creatures trying to eat people.

And then there's Black Hawk Down... based on a true story.
Solid movie by Ridley Scott, and has a massive cast.

Have you seen 12 Strong? Great film.
I'll second this as well.
Solid movie.
Only garnered medium results from critics but it's a decent watch if you're not after overly slick actioners and want something a bit more realistic.

Heck lets go with Escape for New York and Escape from L.A. and even Tango and Cash.

Dangit...

How did I forget Predator (1987)...

Best Isolation Horror ever and packed to the gills with action.

Oof... good shouts actually.
Trapped in cities that have been turned into giant prisons with a mission to accomplish... good calls.

Tango And Cash is a good shout as well seeing as I called out Speed... fun action comedy

@Rodent

Hey Rat, have you seen Brick Mansions? Great film with Paul Walker.

I think our host would enjoy it as well.

Sadly not, I was never a fan of Walker tbh.
I'll mark it down as one to see if I get the chance.

Its full of action.

Crooked government trying to get rid of housing residents the wrong way

The Rodent: Thanks but you are listing all very well known popular movies and I have seen most all of those that you list. Skyscraper, Phone Booth, Don't Breath and the other two fallen movies are ones that I have not.

I did try to watch Last Stand and 12 Strong but I could not make it to the end. I don't remember exactly why. I think it was the too ridicules gun battles that made me quit.

So like, Batteries Not Included crossed with Die Hard
I'll keep an eye out for it... had a quick peak at the wiki and imdb for it. Looks fun.

If it's just full on action, definitely check out the Fallen trilogy with London Has Fallen.
And for actioners out of those, Skyscraper.

Phone Booth is tense, but not a great amount of action exactly. Good movie though, gets the heart beating.

You ready? You look ready.
Angel Has Fallen is one of my greatest guilty pleasures. That movie is ****ing radical!

"I didn't tell ya to run down there."

Oof
I just thought of one... gritty action, feels tight and compact in story and almost claustrophobic even though it's kinda spread across a cityscape...

Bruce Willis movie 16 Blocks (2006)
Directed by Richard Donner as well, can't go wrong.
