Favorite Viewing of The Month?

The trick is not minding
Another good month:
Assassin (Shinoda is a master)
Joint Security Area
Blackkklansman
The Station Agent
The Mirror (1997)
*this is better then A Moment of Innocence
Italian For Beginners
3:10 to Yuma (original)
The Killer (2023)

I forgot the opening line.
I didn't do as much movie watching in May as I usually do (or have been doing), but I did see some blindingly great cinematic triumphs that wowed me. Amongst them were The Devils, There Will Be Blood, Love Exposure, Aftersun, Seconds and November (2017).

There were many other films with distinction which must be mentioned and taken note of : The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, A Visitor to a Museum, The Phantom Carriage, A Night to Remember, Petite Maman, Notorious, Beau Travail, Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché and HyperNormalisation. I sometimes feel the urge to tell everyone I can about these great movies, but they'll likely say "Oh, that sounds good. I must see that," and then proceed to never, ever, watch them.

Latest Review : Before the Rain (1994)

June '24:

Pearl - A big improvement over X and my new favorite movie about pandemic life.

A Very Long Engagement - Finally saw this. Audrey Tautou is one of the best and most charming actresses of all time. I miss seeing her regularly.

American Pop - Ralph Bakshi's journey through American popular music of the 20th century and the many shades of fatherhood. Probably my new favorite movie of his.

Have you ever "done" RHPS at your local theater?

No, I haven't. I have only ever watched it at home by myself.
That is definitely a very safe way to enjoy it. I have "done" the RHPS at a few places, including Manhattan, and it is fun, but you get a lot of rice all over you!

Trying Real Hard To Be The Shepherd
Shouting out my two 5 stars this month. On top of being engaging, both just happen to look excetional.

I Am Cuba

That is a good month. Big fan of the bolded.

The other horror lovers here need to check out In a Violent Nature, which I saw last weekend. It disturbed me greatly. Will share my thoughts later this week.

Death Whisperer: A horror film from Thailand. It pays tribute to Evil Dead but isn't trying to copy the movie. The special effects are surprisingly good, too. At least here in Finland, it's on Netflix. 3.5/5

July '24:

Goin' Down the Road - Canadian classic about two Maritimers having a hard time making it in the big city.

The Right Stuff - American classic about Project Mercury.

High Noon - A perfect if not discouraging Western about how little people are willing to fight for law and order if there's nothing in it for themselves.

I recently rewatched Bunuel's "Viridiana" and wow, it's so good.
