I didn't do as much movie watching in May as I usually do (or have been doing), but I did see some blindingly great cinematic triumphs that wowed me. Amongst them were The Devils, There Will Be Blood, Love Exposure, Aftersun, Seconds and November (2017).

There were many other films with distinction which must be mentioned and taken note of : The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, A Visitor to a Museum, The Phantom Carriage, A Night to Remember, Petite Maman, Notorious, Beau Travail, Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché and HyperNormalisation. I sometimes feel the urge to tell everyone I can about these great movies, but they'll likely say "Oh, that sounds good. I must see that," and then proceed to never, ever, watch them.

June '24:
Pearl - A big improvement over X and my new favorite movie about pandemic life.
A Very Long Engagement - Finally saw this. Audrey Tautou is one of the best and most charming actresses of all time. I miss seeing her regularly.
American Pop - Ralph Bakshi's journey through American popular music of the 20th century and the many shades of fatherhood. Probably my new favorite movie of his.

No, I haven't. I have only ever watched it at home by myself.

Shouting out my two 5 stars this month. On top of being engaging, both just happen to look excetional.

The other horror lovers here need to check out In a Violent Nature, which I saw last weekend. It disturbed me greatly. Will share my thoughts later this week.

July '24:
Goin' Down the Road - Canadian classic about two Maritimers having a hard time making it in the big city.
The Right Stuff - American classic about Project Mercury.
High Noon - A perfect if not discouraging Western about how little people are willing to fight for law and order if there's nothing in it for themselves.
