Yes, there is.
Not as a pro, of course. Just, there was a law, all boys who've reached 18 years and upon graduating from school to enter the millitary service for two years, reduced to one year in the early 90's. That law was abolished in the late 90's.
Ok, thanks for the info.

Does anyone else not see the rep 'thumb up' icon next to the movie reveals? I'd rep Keyser for all his hard work but I don't see how I can do that?
I don't know about mobile, but I can see the "thumbs up" on a desktop. I think I've "thumbs upped" all of Keyser's countdown entries and most of the hints. What I can't see is how many "likes/thumbs up" the post has gotten afterwards, but I think that's the usual with these modified posts we use for the countdowns.

Trouble with a capitial 'T'

Thanks Thief. I did see the 'thumbs up' at first but haven't lately....but...I just changed browsers so I'm thinking maybe that's the reason? I'll try a different browser as soon as Keyser post the next two movie reveals.

Trouble with a capitial 'T'
I have a weird question out of curiosity, but is there anybody here that has served in the military?
I'm glad you asked that. I haven't served in the military though I have relatives who have and some of the older ones served in various wars. I bet alot of us have grandfathers or uncles or distant relatives that have told war stories to us. I'd be interested if anybody wanted to share any of those stories?

This could be a thread all to into itself.

Or we could just talk about it here, as this is the MoFo 'water hole' at the moment. Unless Keyser or Yoda disagrees.

I was hoping during 'intermission' while we want to comment on the days movies we might have some casual talk about wars and war movies. I know I've been prepping for this countdown since March 1st and have been watching a war film a day and sometimes war documentaries. I feel I learned a lot and also wonder a lot about people's lives during the war. Just a thought.

Nothing for me.
I have never seen All Quiet on the Western Front. I have a weird aversion to movies and books about this era.
I have definitely seen Judgement at Nuremburg, but I only remember the courtroom scenes. It was odd seeing Judy Garland outside of a musical.

Carry on, nothing to see here

Seen: 11/36

My ballot:

Seriously, though, I'm a fan of the original All Quiet on the Western Front, which made me a bit wary about the remake. However, shortly before the Oscars, I started reading a lot of praise about it, but even though I have plans to check it out, I haven't yet.

Judgment at Nuremberg has been on my watchlist for ages. It seems like the kind of film I might admire, but for some reason, still haven't seen it.

I watched Judgment at Nuremberg for one of the Personal Recommendation HOFs. I respected it, but didn't particularly like it and didn't vote for it. I haven't seen the All Quiet remake or any countdown entry since Fail-Safe.

Well considering that about 90% of the film is the depiction of the trial.

I for sure saw Lawrence of Arabia but all I remember are the scenes in the desert...

Ok, some random factoids!

  • So far, the biggest point gap between two films has been 4, between Battle of Britain, War and Peace, Part I, and The Caine Mutiny, all of which were listed back-to-back-to-back (#72-70)
  • So far, the film that has been present in most ballots has been Three Kings (#77), which was included in 7 ballots.
  • There are a couple of films in the countdown with 100% RT scores: Shoah, Breaker Morant, A Man Escaped, Forbidden Games, and Red Angel. Also, the whole 100-hour cut of War and Peace is at 100%.
  • So far, the film with the highest IMDB score is Shoah with 8.7, while the lowest one is Battle of Britain at 6.9.
