Watched this again recently and it reminded me of what a well put together movie it is.
The plot has lots details, but never gets to the point where you lose track of what's going on.
It's flow, scene changes and timing is perfect and the cast is superb.
And my favorite part:

Heat always felt like more of a crime drama to me than anything else, though I do agree that its action beats are at least as much of the thriller variety as the action variety (the stake-out, the finale, etc.)
