Rate The Last Movie You Saw

Aparajito - I have been distracted by the shooting, very hard to focus on the screen, very hard to concentrate... Don't think it was as good as the first one. I also have to avoid the introductions - constant spoilers...

What do you mean by getting "distracted by the shooting"? And also, you had to "avoid introductions" - what does that mean?

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
He's talking about the mass shooting today in California. The restored Apu trilogy was presented by TCM, and they introduce the movie and those intros may include spoilers for those who haven't seen them.

Submarino (2010) - Thomas Vinterberg

We picture Scandinavia as a place quiet and peaceful but film after film I have seen over the last few months propose something completely opposite. This is another such horror story, well presented...

7.5 out of 10

Star Wars Episode 3: The Revenge of the Sith (2005)

The more tolerable of the prequels. My rating hasn't changed from last time watching it and tbh it probably won't ever change. I'm not a huge mega Star Wars fan but the original trilogy is CLEARLY better (My 5 year old self who saw Episode 1 and that was their introduction into Star Wars knew these prequels stunk) the prequels have overall ruined any chance of me being a die hard Star Wars fan, the original trilogy is good but there is no Nostalgia factor for me. One thing I will give Episode 3 is that Hayden got better from Episode 2 (not much better but some of his scenes were actually decent in this movie). Ewan McGregor ("He Killed the Younglings" line excluded) and Ian McDiarmid who plays Palpatine were the best parts of this episode (McDiarmid was actually good in almost every scene except his fight scenes) and kudos to Jimmy Smits who was actually pretty solid as well in the prequels as a whole. I love Samuel L. Jackson as much as everybody else but he just did not fit in this movie. You know who would been good for Windu had they been a little older when these movies were being made? Chiwetel Ejiofor.....or they could of just scrapped Windu all together tbh and made some alien jedi take on his role.

A masterpiece and one of the very greatest silent films I've seen. Yes, I haven't seen too many silents (somewhere around 40), but this has to be one of my absolute favorites. The visuals are breathtaking.

Madness is the emergency exit…
Skyfall was my least favorite of craig's bond films.
Spectre have taken that spot for me now. But the most shocking & depressing thing for me in Skyfall was Bond killing Silva by throwing a knife from behind!! WTF!?! This is James Bond...he doesn't or shouldn't at least kill his main villain in a mission by throwing a knife from the back. Bond shouldn't be that coward. Both deserved a better or more engaging & intense fight at the end.

Bigger Than Life (1956)

Father becomes addicted to a cortisone drug that leads to a kind of descent into insanity. These types of films are one of my favourite to watch, I love watching a character spiral out of control and this did not disappoint. Pretty thought provoking even now so I can only imagine what it would have been like when this first came out nearly 60 years ago. The ending felt a bit abrupt and unconvincing but otherwise this was a brilliant watch.

The Shoot Horses, Don't They?
-

We work hard every single day, in hopes of one day making something of ourselves. We get little sleep and though tired we continue to work. We lean on a significant other for support, but even they aren't enough to make us happy. Time goes by and there we are: still dancing that same old dance. The dance goes on forever, until the day we pass away.
First view?

Very allegoric. Notice how they have to race in circles, just like life, yet getting nowhere, not like a ladder. Notice the first to quit are the young ones who could care less - they aren't corrupted yet. Notice how much Sarrazin's character is chided for wanting to see the sun up, as if nature had no purpose, that materialism is the only thing to work for. Superstition with the older women, the sponsors. We keep hearing from Gig Young how "it's all about the show" (ripping apart Alice's dress), but not saying anything, having that paranoia and false envy around, and later when she becomes so crazy she only wants to hear about his family while they make out, because humanity is gone. We also find out even the winners lose. After hope and purpose in life is lost, some resort to a last effort.

The film is much more relevant today - I wish more would see it. It's definitely the best picture Sydney Pollack made, the best picture Jane Fonda has been in. It's easily a Top 5 all-time. 15 years ago, I was looking through films, and my prejudice with the title kept me away from it, until a friend/professor mentioned it being his favorite film.

Interesting. Never heard of this but definitely going to check it out. Looked it up on Wiki and seems cool. Plus, Donkey Kong was always one of my favorite 80's video games.

Apur Sansar - 7/10

I would also rate "Aparajito" at a 7

This is the final of the Apu trilogy. Death is milked a lot, but it's still good. The first was one was great, and that's all that was planned. But money gets in the way, so someone would release something at a deadline, even if it could be better. For example, if Paul McCartny came out with a real piece of garbage, many people will still buy it - he's a Beatle. This goes for the more famous directors, actors, etc.. I'd love to do a few experiments, including a reverse. Get someone with little notoriety with talent, and release with the most commercial guy and watch how many people will call it "genius" but thought it was "garbage" under the name of John Doe.
