I don't think it pretends to be anything. It just adapts the graphic novel, but it's basically an excuse to make a good action/revenge thriller movie.
Rate The Last Movie You Saw
I personally like V for Vendetta, I liked it because essentially you are in the perspective of the villain. He is basically going around killing people for revenge and as an audience you want him to succeed. It was a lot about manipulation politically and personally with Natalie Portman's character. I watched it before the hype and enjoyed it, I don't find it overly clever or anything but I did find it entertaining. More of a cult following really that had expanded because of the Matrix fanboys.

Is this the first time Cobpyth attacked a film for politics? I had just about accepted the fact that he likes everything and that he thinks most political messages in movies are acceptable even if they rub some the wrong way.

I'm not the kind of person that will automatically degrade a film to trash when it has problems, but that doesn't mean that I won't adduce certain problematic aspects of them (even when I liked them overall).
I don't really get where this is coming from, honestly, but I assume you mean that I'm often too generous (from your point of view) when rating or reviewing films. Well, that's really because I like writing about stuff that I found interesting/good in a movie better than writing about the stuff that I hated/disliked. I don't think it's necessarily a lack of skepticism.

Rottentomatoes:
V for Vendetta - 71% and 6.8/10
Spring Breakers - 65% and 6.3/10
Still not quite right, but they're already closer to the truth.
For me, it really only works as a stylized revenge film. Its value as a film about 'politics' is paper thin or even non-existent (to me).
Again, I didn't hate V for Vendetta at all, but it fails at being what it pretends to be.

American History X 82% and Fight Club 80% my first and my second favorite movie of all time .
If you want my opinion IMDB is the best reference for information about a movie .

Paper Moon
(Peter Bogdanovich, 1973)
I truly think it's impossible to dislike this movie. I mean, if you do dislike it, then obviously you have no soul. There's no other explanation. Not even Hitler could dislike this movie. It's that good and that delightful. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was watching it. Most movies overstay their welcome, but I wanted to summon the characters back onto the screen as soon as the credits rolled in this one. Tatum O'Neal gives one of the best performances by a child that I've ever seen, making her the youngest recipient of an Academy Award in history. Casting her real-life father as the lead was a brilliant decision, since their chemistry and ease with one another is impeccable. The black-and-white cinematography is beautiful and adds a timeless quality to the film. The movie is very touching and very sweet, yet it never falls into sentimentality or cutesiness. The script is brilliant and contains many excellent lines of dialogue. After finishing the film, I watched the special features that came with the DVD, and my admiration for the technical aspects of the film grew even stronger. Many scenes are long, extended takes and no shot is ever out of focus, allowing two shots to accomplish what four shots would accomplish in a normal film. I urge anyone who hasn't seen this film to watch it before submitting their 70's list. It's a wonderful film. I could see myself bumping it up to a perfect rating after a re-watch.

Oh, and to fit this into the current topic of discussion:
Paper Moon > V for Vendetta.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 4/5. I remember hating this film as a kid and even went so far as to blame it for Disney starting to fall from grace but watching it again, even with all of it's flaws, I actually really enjoyed it. The acting was fairly good, the singing amazing, the story, much better than I remember and the animation was really impressive as well. I've forgotten why I hated this film. Flaws and all, minus the trolls (yes they whole reason the point it taken off) it was very enjoyable to watch.

Inside Llewyn Davis -
I enjoyed this. Its certainly not the best Coen Bro's movie (in fact, i rated only A Serious Man, Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty worse) but its still a decent watch. I liked the music and im probably in the minority with this, but i loved the ending, especially with a young Bob Dylan playing in the background. Its pretty bleak but i like bleak.

Animal House - 6.5/10
Enjoyable comedy, but i think i have seen the college party film recreated too many times to have found anything unique here.

Play Misty For Me - 7/10
The film i obviously drew parallels between was Fatal Attraction. I have to say though that, Jessica Walter was alot more effective and at times genuinely terrifying , than the more lauded role Glenn Close played in Fatal Attraction.

M.A.S.H - 8/10

Oh, so just because they're your favorite films and they're not rated higher on Rotten Tomatoes, but they are on IMDb, this makes IMDb more accurate? Is that what you're trying to say?

The Long Goodbye- 7.5/10 a good solid film noir. I really liked the film character Phillip Marlowe. I see this doing well in the 70s countdown.

Well, I actually rated it when I saw it in 2010. Never seen it after. However, that's the rating I initially gave to Resident Evil as well.

28 days later by Danny Boyle

One hell of a Zombie movie ! this is not Night of the living dead or Dawn of the dead but I like the aspect of 28 days later . The scene in the military base is very shocking and Cilian Murphy is very nice in this role !

Anyway, I just introduced my sister to one of my favorite film directors tonight with one of his best films (according to me):
Inglourious Basterds (2009)

After the film ended, she immediately ran off to her computer to rate it a 10 on IMDb. She loved it and is eager to see more of Tarantino's filmography. Now I have two sisters who love Tarantino!
Mission Accomplished!

Needless to say, this is also one of my favorite films and it perfectly holds up. This was my third viewing of the film and I enjoyed it tremendously. I myself rate it:
