The Searchers (1956)

I really enjoyed the first 20 minutes and the last 15, but the rest was very up and down for me. I didn't like the attempts at humor or the subplot involving Martin's love life. I thought Ethan was the only remotely interesting character, and while there were some really nice shots, overall, I would've strongly preferred this movie in black and white. Another thing is, although I've been getting into westerns lately, I'm not into the whole cowboys vs. Indians thing. I know this is considered a big time classic, but it was a disappointment for me.

The message of the film is f*cked up, to name one thing.

I still don't dislike V For Vendetta, as it has a few good things going for it.
It's definitely not one of my favorite films, though.
the message is against the government and it's a futurist movie so I don't find it ****ed up ... lol . Hugo Weaving speech is pretty incredible

In my opinion, the film kind of promotes anarchy and tries to get away with it by contrasting its anarchic attitude with an overly totalitarian government. It romanticizes one extreme by using the obvious evilness of the opposing extreme. I didn't find much wisdom in its message at all.

It might work as a stylized comic book adaptation, but for me it certainly isn't anything more than that.

V For Vendetta by James McTeigue

How can you dislike this movie ? it's completely impossible . A Work of art by an incredible director , the acting is astounding , the speech are AWESOME and Hugo Weaving is a god with a mask I also very like the work of Nathalie Portman in the film . In my top 3 ever and I give it a perfect note because it's well deserve .

10/10
100/100
I found it good. A bit too forced though so I did not have a strong emotional connection with it.

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
It might work as a stylized comic book adaptation, but for me it certainly isn't anything more than that.
i agree with it being a stylized adaptation -- they did a beautiful job of re-creating the graphic novel, and sorry to hear how little ya cared for it and that's cool. It'll be REAL boring if we all liked/disliked everything exactly as everyone else.

For me, V is a visual and verbal vichyssoise of --- well, let's say i agree with Derek's love of the movie for the sheer enjoyment of, not only Weaving's and Portman's acting, but of the entire cast.
This one's on my high rotation list of movies at home and always enjoy watching it

Fascist!

Well, it's a fictionnal world and I don't think that the point of the film was to be realistic and to promote arnarchy. And, in this sort of situation, I believe that anarchy is not that bad and in certain place in the world this sort of totalitarian system or even worst exists. I really believe it's a masterpiece, I don't like it as much as Derek, but it's a fantastic film

Sure, it has a few good stylized scenes and it's not like I didn't enjoy certain parts of it, but the obvious plot and the extremely one-sided romanticized message kind of bothered me a little bit.
It's kind of easy to make a totalitarian and overly corrupt regime seem awful. They took something that everyone hates (including me!) to make the complete other extreme look like the only right and effective way to go. At least, that's how the film struck me.
It's no wonder ideological groups like 'Anonymous' wear Guy Fawkes masks as a symbol. This film/story totally encourages chaotic revolutions (even if it camouflages itself as a revenge plot).

That's why I had certain difficulties with it and couldn't fully connect with the film's purpose.

Read my post again. It's anti-extrimism, not pro-totalitarian.
I know you mean this as a joke, but I don't like being called a fascist, so I wanted to make that clear.

I think it's just a very unsophisticated movie that wants to be profound, but actually REALLY isn't.

Definitely not a masterpiece in my book.

It's always hard to attack a very popular movie, but I know I'm not the only one that thought the film's attempt to be something more than a stylized action film kind of fell flat because of its oversimplified view at society and politics.

Actually I don't like the film as a pollitical film that we can relate to real life, but more as a really well made pollitical thriller in a tangent reality, but that we can still take some hints (like not accepting opression, etc.) I thought the prison scene was absolutely fantastic. But than again to each their own

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Is this the first time Cobpyth attacked a film for politics? I had just about accepted the fact that he likes everything and that he thinks most political messages in movies are acceptable even if they rub some the wrong way.

While IMDB is not the best source, at least this world agrees with me. Spring Breakers 5.4 compared to V for a Vendetta 8.2
Rottentomatoes:
V for Vendetta - 71% and 6.8/10
Spring Breakers - 65% and 6.3/10

Still not quite right, but they're already closer to the truth.

For me, it really only works as a stylized revenge film. Its value as a film about 'politics' is paper thin or even non-existent (to me).

Again, I didn't hate V for Vendetta at all, but it fails at being what it pretends to be.
