The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV
Welcome to the 4th Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame! If you're unfamiliar with how this works, take a look at the links below- Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame I Winner-Neiba Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame II Winner-TheUsualSuspect Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame: Foreign Language Edition Winner-Citizen Rules You must choose movies from the available lists that the other members have not seen. Make sure your lists are filled out and up to date! If you want to nominate a movie longer than 160 minutes for someone, let me know and I'll ask the person if it's ok. If a member has no time limit restrictions, feel free to mention it in the thread when you sign up. Normally the due date would add up to 1 week per movie. I will add about 2 weeks to that total to give ample time to finish, but there will be a due date! Anyone can join, but if you've never completed a Hall of Fame before, you will need to watch 4 of the movies picked for you within 1 month before I post your nominations. You have until Saturday night July 3rd to join. Once Sunday comes you can start sending me your nominations. I ask that you wait until then so that my inbox doesn't fill up. Any questions go ahead and ask in the thread. Let's go! Members Allaby Citizen Rules Edarsenal Hey Fredrick Neiba Okay Raul Sean Siddon Takoma11 Thief Thursday Next Cricket DUE DATE-FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15th!! |
No time limit for what anybody wants to nominate for me.

Re: The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV

For everyone who joins, when picking a movie for me: I don't like gratuitous violence or gratuitous sex, I have to watch these films with my wife and we both don't like extreme, dark disturbing stuff, I hate gore-horror films. |
^^^Strange man alert!

Re: The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV
I don't know, I'll have to think about it. . .
OK, I thought about it -- F@CK YEAH I'm in!! lol I will go with the time limit though. ***EDIT** I've been amazed by the "gems" gifted to me, consistently, in this HoF, BUT, if anyone gets stuck, snatch one from the few here at Jab's 2021 Film Challenge. Could use a bit o' help with that one, too. https://media0.giphy.com/media/whhgbV7Tzete8/200.gif |

Ugh, I'll think about it. I'm currently swamped, but the last one was so full of gems that I have to consider it.

Slow down, don't join up all at once!
|
Re: The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV
I'm more than a little surprised as well. Should be a lot more by now
|
Re: The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV
I gotta say that some of the best movies I've seen are from the Personal Recommendations that I've joined. Cricket is a great host and I've enjoyed these more than even the main HoFs!....How's that for a plug:p

There will be more

I may enter, but I'm waiting till the end to see how many people join. I already updated my lists here.
|
I'll play.
Just a reminder that despite me being a goody-goody rule follower, if someone prominently involved in the making of the film is a know rapist or otherwise abusive trash person, I will not watch the film. Ditto films with unsimulated animal cruelty/death. If you're not sure if a film crosses this boundary for me, please feel free to ask (via Cricket) and I will clarify. This past year and this summer have been kind of intense, so I'd love a film that you think of as being joyful or beautiful or optimistic. But that is just a thought and if you think the best thing I haven't seen is some soul-rending sob-fest, go for it! |

Can you expand a bit on why some classic films like GWTW don't interest you? It's cool that they don't, I just want to make a good choice for you.
But I go into everything with as much of an open mind as possible. The poster for Cranes Are Flying kept me away from it for a while and I loved it. In fact, discovering that something I thought I'd find just medium is actually really great is a wonderful feeling. If there's a classic you're head over heels for, recommend it! |

I don't know, honestly. My reaction to it has always just been "eh." I'm not a big fan of any of the actors involved, I don't find the plot description all that compelling, it has a really long run time. (Sorry if that sounds shallow, but I'm talking about what draws me to a film, not how I actually judge a film's worth). I will say that the stills I've seen of it are gorgeous, but as with Barry Lyndon, pretty ain't gonna keep me happy for 3 hours. But I go into everything with as much of an open mind as possible. I'd like to join, and no time limit for me either.
It's been a while since I last posted something on the forum, so for anyone wondering about what my taste is like, I've updated my top 10. Feel free to assign me a favourite of yours, a random pick, or anything for that matter, I'm down to watch anything. |

@Takoma11 I remember once you posted a link to a site that listed animal cruelty in films. Can you post that link again? I can't remember what the site was called.

Between that and the IMDb Parents' Guide, you can usually suss out what happens. While I don't love animal cruelty in films, it's really just the unsimulated stuff that is a no-go for me. |

Re: The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV
Making a full dozen! VERY NICE!!
While I am ALWAYS excited when a new HoF pops up, I do find myself just a little bit more for these Personal Recs. For their high amount of "gems" and discovery of such a strong amount of new favorites. Not that it doesn't occur in others, which it does, it's just that, so far, garnered higher amounts here. |

Re: The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV
I might regret it later, but I'm in.
I'm open for any film, but... if you can lean towards shorter films, I'd be more than grateful. Don't think I can handle many 3 hour epics right now. |
Just repeating myself:
Not that I'm expecting any of these to be picked but here are a few movies I've watched parts of and turned off because I thought they were, to be nice, not too good ( I don't check off a movie unless I've seen it all the way through): Marty, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Wild Bunch, Harold and Maude, Goldfinger, Deep Red, Eyes Wide Shut, Dick Tracy, Alphaville, Oliver!, The Sons of Katie Elder, Billy Madison, My Dinner With Andre, Shakespeare in Love, The Birth of a Nation, Bowling for Columbine, Educating Rita. That's about all of them. Also, not a fan of Woody Allen, James Bond or Charlie Chaplin. Any genre is fine by me but when it comes to love stories/romance, again not a fan but the older the better and it helps if they're a musical. |

Re: The Personal Recommendation Hall of Fame IV
Glad I got that figured out!
I also just changed Thief's movie from a 2.5 hour movie to a 90 minute movie, so that it's a shorter watch. I think I have some good selections for everyone and I sure can't wait for this to start! Very excited:) |
I will not acknowledge someone's ballot until the ballot of the person or people who sent theirs in sooner are finalized. This is in case #2 has to pick over, but their second choice is one that #8 picked.
|
A little less than 5 hours and you can send your nominations in
