Felt confident there'd be a 'Top' coming in a quick follow-up post but apparently not

So ..... I reckon Raul must be on about this artist (https://www.discogs.com/artist/1670534-Zzzzzz) :)

I've no exposure to them myself - hey cat .... this is your neck of the woods - any info?

Like GNR a lot but they are kinda played out for me currently so i didn't vote for them. A friend of mine used to play Sweet Child Of Mine constantly when we were teens to the point that it's probably my most hated song now that i once liked. Welcome To The Jungle and Paradise City are also horribly overplayed too, still enjoy most of the others on AFD to varying degrees though.

So far, the albums I voted for:

Grimes - Art Angels
Elastica - Elastica
Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
The Cure - Pornography
The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland
Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions

Considered voting for Surfer Rosa from the Pixies, Green Day - Dookie, and I love anything from Joy Division, so would have included Closer if it'd been a longer list.

(on Arcade Fire - Neon Bible) - I'm sure i'd heard one of them because of friend and end up on "to ignore" list

(The Cure - Pornography) - as far as me adoring post punk and other cure's clones , somehow i really not biggie with them, Thought for reconsider

(Jeff Buckley - Grace) i know the guy influence for but barely have idea with his album

(The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland) know them, just one of so many group that i keep postponed till now

(Radiohead - 'Amnesiac') - right now probably at the same high with in rainbows, probably my 3rd fav from them.

(The Eagles - Hotel California)

My boyfriend and I have many likes in common. I'd say a good 70% of our music taste aligns. Every now and then we infect each other with an artist/album and I infected him with ...Endtroducing. He plays it often while setting up before soundcheck. It can take a bit of getting into, but it's kinda genius.

Something about the albums revealed while I was sleeping. Most of them were by artists that I know of but have listened to very little so I'll just focus on the few exceptions.

Arcade Fire, Jeff Buckley, DJ Shadow and Grimes are totally unknown to me.

Back in high school one of my friends was a huge The Cure fan and I loaned couple of their albums. Didn't really get into them and haven't tried since. I suppose I should give them a second chance one day.

The Sisters of Mercy is a band I listen to occasionally. It's not too near to make my top list but it's pretty good in the right mood.

I know I've listened Hotel California multiple times but still can't remember any other songs than the title one from it (which is a great btw). Other than that I haven't given The Eagles much chances.

I voted for different Guns N' Roses myself. Appetite for Destruction isn't bad but I vastly prefer certain other albums by them.

Massive Attack is a band I'm planning to give a good try at some point. I've listened couple of albums before and there's been both good and bad there.

Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions
Dream City Film Club - Stranger Blues
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Game Theory - Lolita Nation
George Michael – Listen Without Prejudice
Heartless Bastards - All This Time
Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers - The Album
John Cale - Paris 1919
Limp Bizkit - Three Dollar Bill, Y’all
Lindsey Buckingham - Law and Order
L’Arc~en~Ciel – Tierra
梶芽衣子 [Meiko Kaji] - 全曲集

Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers - The Album is the only album from my list to show up on the countdown so far. (Hopefully it won't be the only one at the end of the countdown.)

I got this album as a gift from a friend in college. He knew that I love rabbits, and he saw this CD in a discount store, so he bought it for me as a joke. As it turned out, the joke was on him because I loved the album.

Endtroducing was my #7. An ageless piece of musical experimentation that (along with J Dilla's Donuts, which I also voted for) showed how much art can be wrought from a method as easily-dismissed as sampling. It goes from contemplative and chilled to loud and bombastic to creepy and minimalist at the drop of multiple hats and yet it all flows together perfectly. Also gotta love how it samples both Twin Peaks and John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness.

Appetite for Destruction is...not very good. I still feel compelled to give it a listen every once in a long while, but it definitely feels like there are better places to get a fix of bone-headed hard rock (though there are also far worse, of course - I'll take this over just about anything by Motley Crüe).

Art Angels was my #35. It's an excellent piece of experimental dream pop that effortlessly bounces around between all sorts of vibes and moods (one example being the sequence of the upbeat melancholy of "California" to the urgent howl of "Scream" to the relentless catharsis of "Flesh Without Blood") and everything from Grimes' bizarre vocal range to the considerable variety of each individual track certainly make this a standout, especially considering how its generally pleasant and summery vibe contrasts quite heavily with most of the other albums on my list.

Wasting Light is one of the more surprising entries so far. While I was half-expecting the Foo Fighters to show up in some capacity, this wasn't the one I expected (though in retrospect it makes sense, I guess). I guess it's because most of their albums blur together for me (this one included) that I was surprised anyone felt strongly enough about it to get it on the list. I guess this means that we can probably expect The Colour and the Shape at some point.

Mezzanine is another all-around great album that I simply didn't vote for.

Back to ramblings.

https://i.imgur.com/gCYYbBX.gif

Art Angels is my #14.

Grimes is easily one of my favorite musicians. Sure, her music's awesome, but her personality seals the deal for me. I can't help but fall in love with her distinct lisp and hyperactive ramblings during interviews. Plus, her DIY attitude proves that anyone with enough passion can create great works of art (case in point - Oblivion, her third album, was recorded entirely on Garageband).

Art Angels is my favorite Grimes album because it's dang good pop music. People give her a hard time for choosing a more mainstream sound, but honestly, the production and musical choices are way better on Art Angels compared to her previous works. She continues to grow as an artist - and I respect that.

As for albums I but didn't vote for:

Wasting Lights is a tremendous album, both lyrically and sonically, and I don't even like the Foo Fighters. One day, they miraculously figured out how to do modern rock without sounding generic, and that album was born. Unfortunately, the Foos haven't replicated the feat yet. But I really hope they do.

I would've have voted for Appetite for Destruction years ago, but I've listened to tons of better albums over time. Not dissing Guns N' Roses though - great band, and their debut album I'd say stands the test of time.

Love The Cure, voted for a different album of theirs. Pornography is nevertheless solid.

Would Eagles fans cry out in terror if I told them that I only like their most popular song, Hotel California? Probably, but to me the album itself is like one fantastic meal with a bunch of lackluster sides.

My List:

3. To Pimp a Butterfly
11. Disraeli Gears
14. Art Angels
21. The Money Pit
43. Surfer Rosa

I thought of mentioning that... it's a mixed bag for me. If she's happy, then she should keep dating Musk, but man, some of her recent tweets made in defense of him are just cringe-worthy. I'm worried about her public image and how it'll effect the release of her 4th album (which is already long overdue). I still support her though and will continue to, unless she turns into a Tesla executive or somethin'.

Sorry guys a bit late today, only 15 minutes though not an hour and 15 minutes like Chyp's post implies haha, stop trying to turn my people against me. Marquee Moon was high on my list. Television are the only band my dad introduced me to who i still love, also of all things Marquee Moon was the first thing i spoke to an ex about when i met her. So it has served me well. Never heard of an earworm (song)? That's what it was to me for like a year as it was on all the time.

Oh I've heard the term and I'm one who constantly gets songs stuck in my head, but I've never heard something being described as too catchy.

Well that's why songs often get stuck in my head, they are too catchy once you hear them once that day they won't leave your brain. It's normally stupid corporate product songs that have been designed purely to be catchy.

When I was 12/13 I was obsessed with Metallica, but only the Burton-era stuff. He probably played a part of it, but a more direct reason is I always dug pre-AJFA (AKA Burton-era) Hetfield's voice, which changed after Master of Puppets. I think he has one of the best metal voices in history on those first three albums. However, I also contend Burton was a big part of them creatively, and when they lost him, they lost a lot of that.

Yeah I realised only well after I started perceiving them as ****, that since Hetfield's voice technically improved with time (up to a certain point). Realised what brought me back to their beginning was the bass. Which was lost after MoP.

Actually, they were pretty brutal to Jason in the beginning. "...And Justice For All" aka, "Where's the ****ing BASS...?"

Love Outkast, love Aquemini. Actually relistened to all of their Albums last week, think i prefer Stankonia marginally. That's the one i grew up with (was five when Aquemini came out, seven when Stankonia did and listening to music regularly by then) so it's more nostalgic.

That's the last for now.

I think I put mine in the wrong order. Stankonia hit my freshman year of college and...Jesus, that purple grass and drum machine. It had such gigantic singles. The rest of the album, not their best. I'm a nub.

I can play Aquemini straight and it features arguably their greatest track.

Wasn't expecting to wake up and see two albums I voted to make it :)

#28 - Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
#29 - Metallica - Master of Puppets

With Iron Maiden I had to choose between three albums (Piece of Mind and Powerslave were the others). It's really tough choice but this time 7th Son won. At best they're awesome but usually only about half of the songs per album are really good those three being exceptions.

With Metallica it was a choice between Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning. For a long time I was one of those people who stopped listening to them because of the crap they've done later but couple of years ago I decided to check those old albums again and they're still great (from Ride the Lightning up to and including Black - don't like the debut).

Both of these had some extra leverage from nostalgia but they're solid and deserve their status on their own merits.

Was also think about doing our top x lists of each decade going off where albums placed on the list. I understand if we had done say a 90's Countdown it would look different, still interesting judging it as a best of the 90's list.

If anyone could think of anything else they'd like to see i'd put it together as long as it wasn't too annoying. No way am i trying to figure out albums by genre for example. There's just too many sub-genres and albums with random deviations for the artist that they'd never return to, it'd be a big headache. Anything semi-reasonable though and i'd try and do it.

Decade lists would be interesting if you did the top 50 for each say purely by points garnered with no requirement to be on more than 1 list.

When I was a kid, I actually asked a lady in a record store WHY she was buying Tom Waits. I was curious what she found pleasant about him. Many years later, I don't know what it was, but I just....got him.

Wait, no. Now that's I'm typing this to you I realise exactly whose fault it was....

Les Claypool... Primus. It was Tommy the Cat that immediately clicked with me and I went looking for Tom Waits.

Good idea so maybe, not sure if i want to do that though. Maybe a 25 for those that didn't reach 25 Albums. Not counting prior to the 50's as i don't think there's 25 from any of those decades.

Skinny Fists was my #24. It was in my top 10 when the last countdown went down so it's obviously lost a little of its lustre over the years (the key flaw is that it's top heavy and its last track is the weakest) but I still like it quite a lot. Post-rock certainly appeals to my preference for noisy music, after all.

I love Tortoise, but I disagree. They're on opposite spectrums of post-rock for me, so I can't really compare them to one another like I can compare GY!BE and Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky, for example. Tortoise hangs out with Tuna Laguna for me in vibe - in the happier corner of post-rock.

Liquid Swords was my #20! My brother in-law got me into loads of 80's & 90's hip hop when i was a kid. Looking back on some of that stuff i cringe but Liquid Swords is still awesome, and is the Album from then that's stuck with me most. Funnily enough it was probably the one i liked least then, all i remember is Cold World scared the sh*t out of me as a sheltered white child  Also voted for another Hip Hop Album from that era and should have another that i only listened to again recently.
