Yeah, poor The Doors. I say they aren't influential enough on me to have made my Top 50, yet in my first very band, I picked inopportune moments to bring out my inner JIm Morrison. So he, at least, had a hold on me at some point.

None of mine have showed yet, though a few artists that I picked other albums from have made it already. I like The Doors, at times in my life I have even loved The Doors, though I did not choose any of their albums for my list. If I had to pick one I'd probably have gone with Waiting for the Sun, though I also really have a big thing for The Soft Parade.

My one-pointer didn't make it, which means at least one other MoFo named it (the only motion picture soundtrack I chose).

Great soundtrack, even the New American Orchestra version that was originally released. I have listened to it and Vangelis' own orchestrations countless times. Hundreds upon hundreds.

But I did not choose it for my list.

This makes me happy. The first track Chyp posted, Meantime, was the first single I heard of theirs. HATED it is an understatement. I saw the video and thought how obviously pop and pretentious they are!

Some while later a friend made me listen to the album and was immediately hooked. A few years later in college, we were covering the Only a Few track. That album has so much variety I think. I mean, if you can get into them. I'm glad DD posted Zeroes. One of MANY great tracks from that album. If you dig this, please do check out their album, The Chinese Album. Just as great. IMO, of course.

OK. I'm done gushing over my Spacehog kick.

psssssst, Camo. He totally gave you a grin up there^. Could be a clever ruse though to get you to lower your guard, leading to topical small talk in thread. That may soon lead to a few side nods in other threads around the site which inevitably will lead to a PM conversation or three. Down the road you guys may exchange IM tags, share a few memes or audio clips all the while you get more and more comfortable. In 2-5 years perhaps you decide to take a vacation! Noting how close you will be, you decide to detour to drop by for an impromptu lunch. How pleasant! That is until you realize he's really just the murthafergin demonbear from Annihilation that somehow escaped the fire and learned to type posting randomly on YouTube comments, luring victims like an internet monkfish to their doom.

If you're lucky, he's just the Loch Ness Monster.

Spongebob Squarepants
Madvillain's Madvillainy

Nothing from my list yesterday.

I know of Tom Waits, have probably heard some but don't really know what kind of music he does. Spacehog I haven't heard of. GY!BE I've tried to listen a little but it doesn't appeal to me (like most of post-rock doesn't). Never heard of Genius/GZA (surprise). The Doors I already mentioned when the previous album popped to this list - I've heard some of it (even like some of it occasionally) but haven't yet really tried to listen full albums.

There was a legendary bar in Winston back, back, back...Korn, Dave Matthews, at the time Hootie and more all played there. They use to draw headliners to a little 3 level dive bar. We saw Spacehog there when they were getting their main push stateside. They put on a great show. Needleless :yup: to say, my body wasn't ready for all that glam. :D

Nice! Finally one I voted for!

I was obsessed with Nirvana when I was in junior high and the early part of high school. Like crazy obsessed and this was my favorite of the albums. I really love the stripped down, acoustic versions of their songs and they also chose some really great covers - especially "Where Did You Sleep Last Night." At one point in my early 20s I went through a very strong anti-Nirvana phase where I just couldn't stand them and I got rid of everything - posters cds, etc. - except Unplugged in New York. Just couldn't bear to part with it. I had it at #23.

Camo

Don't know Opeth

If you took to them, it'd be acoustic them, or later them where there's no growling. Not Blackwater Park era. Not unless you can handle growl, but I don't think you're that type. Even though Opeth do blend the heavy growly stuff with very pretty acoustic singy stuff. Later Opeth, the vocalist just got bored with growling, so he just sings. Still heaby backing though. But they lean on the 70's, so of all the nowadays really heavy bands, I could see you listening to Opeth. But arse-backwards. You'd "get it" going backwards.

One of my all time favorite albums is Crack the Sky, the 1975 eponymous debut album of the band Crack the Sky. I did not include it on my list because I knew I would be the only person who named it, so I didn't waste the space. But it is an amazing album.

Rolling Stone just published a nice piece about the band and how they mysteriously became sort of a regional success here in the Baltimore area while being critical darlings, especially that debut album. The title of the article is "The Strange Survival Story of the Best U.S. Prog Band You’ve Never Heard".

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/crack-the-sky-the-strange-survival-story-of-the-best-u-s-prog-band-youve-never-heard-707669/

I mention this because a) we are talking about favorite albums, b) some of you were talking about prog rock, and c) because next Saturday for now the fourth time I get to open for Crack the Sky here in Baltimore. Growing up hearing their music on the radio and coveting their records, to now have played the same bill with them and be at least an acknowledged fellow musician to all and even friendly with a few of the guys, it is a bit surreal to me. Especially since I wasn't even in my first band until I was forty-three.

Anyway, enjoy a little Crack the Sky.

Blood On The Tracks, Blonde On Blonde and Bringing It All Back Home are my favourites of his, also like Time Out Of Mind. The rest range from good songs but uneven to bad for me personally. Actually just watched Don't Look Back last night, dude is awesome (douchey too, but awesome) and i wish i liked his music a bit more, will keep listening.

Not a Bob Dylan fan. He wrote good songs, though. Just never been a fan of his voice.

Might sound heinous, but I think Bob Dylan is highly overrated. His music to me feels something like Beowulf - you see its influences on other works of arts, but on it's own, it doesn't hold up very well.

Not really a fan of britpop. It's not terrible music by any means but I've always found something more interesting to listen. I somehow seem to remember that Suede might have been better than most though.

And like previous posters I've never been into Dylan.

86. David Bowie - Hunky Dory

Another Doors album, good. I'm sure that was on my list. I'm not familiar with Hunky Dory, though I'm sure I've heard songs from it. I do like Bowie, some of the best vocals in the biz!

This, pretty much exactly.

As with everyone who makes an effort to get into the popular music canon, I obviously went and checked out the main Dylan albums and then some but I agree with the sentiment that there's something almost...academic about listening to Dylan for me. Blood on the Tracks is probably the closest I have to a favourite of his, if only because I'll put it on every once in a rare while instead of any of the other albums of his that I have. Anyway, as you can probably tell I didn't vote for it anyway.

Blood On The Tracks is my favourite too, it's actually a really beautiful, heavy album. Just have issues with his voice which prevents me from wanting to listen to him for the length of an Album.

He was saying he's a better singer than someone in Don't Look Back, can't remember who it was.

He wasn't really named after anyone ftr, although my dad is a Dylan fan.

Nightfall was my #17. It was the album that introduced me to doom metal (loaned it from local library when I was maybe 13). As a whole I'd say Candlemass is the greatest doom band ever. They even managed multiple vocalist changes successfully.

Kinda related to Candlemass still. Another band lead by Leif Edling was among the last two albums I dropped from my list. That man hasn't done a bad album in his whole career, I think.

If that is the case I'm pretty sure it's this prog rock offering from '74:

Queen songs range from awesome to dreadful to me, and it's a much bigger toss up than just about any other band. Don't even know if i've heard any of their studio albums, only songs and greatest hits i think so i should try that. Freddie Mercury's voice was incredible of course though.

Congrats Ms.M, you made it! Sorry gbg :( Don't worry, like i said everyone that voted got at least one on the list.

Will be out most of tomorrow so i'll most likely post them earlier, can't say when yet as i don't know when i'll be going out. I don't have another one until Tuesday :bawling:
