Just seen this was on the list:
Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols
I use to own that way way long ago. It was an 8 track if that tells you how long ago it was:cool:
Damn. By one place! :bawling:
Was close to leaving you a post comment saying something was close but thought it would have been funnier this way. :D

I had Siamese Dream, not sure what to say other than i love it.
Had it at #4. My favorite album of the 90s.

I like several songs from both the Stones and the Pumpkins, but didn't vote for any. Don't know if I've ever listened to a Stones album actually.
Forgot to say i posted this earlier:
Was planning on putting together a few silly stats to post at the end of the countdown. Ones i was considering were, Albums per decade and Artists with more than one Album on the Countdown. Was also think about doing our top x lists of each decade going off where albums placed on the list. I understand if we had done say a 90's Countdown it would look different, still interesting judging it as a best of the 90's list.
If anyone could think of anything else they'd like to see i'd put it together as long as it wasn't too annoying. No way am i trying to figure out albums by genre for example. There's just too many sub-genres and albums with random deviations for the artist that they'd never return to, it'd be a big headache. Anything semi-reasonable though and i'd try and do it.
Another one i thought of was posting Iro's Countdown and the Albums placement (or non placement) on this Countdown. If anyone wants to see anything else tell me soon as there's only 8 days left.
42. Songs of Leonard CohenLeonard Cohen
https://i.imgur.com/PhOrDK2.jpg
(108 Points, 4 Lists)
Songs of Leonard Cohen was my #34! Cohen was another artist i went off for quite a while, got back into him again this year after seeing Exotica (hilariously it happened again about a month later after seeing Justice League with the Everybody Knows cover at the start ), Everybody Knows makes that film so goshdarn dark and atmospheric. Think Leonard is more someone i'd make a mix of rather than listening to his Studio Albums but i wanted to vote for him and i think Songs Of is his most consistent.

Yet another case of premature Faildictulation from me :(
Cracking album, no Sabs on my list though.
Wow. There are THREE Doors' albums already on?
I was considering Coens album, but not this one. Anyway I'm glad he appeared. Smashin Pumpkins higher than Radiohead? I hope it's not the only one Radiohead's album in this countdown.

Guys the whole list is in the third post of the thread :p. Yes three Doors Albums, think they have the most at this point but may be off there. That's Radiohead's second, Amnesiac has shown up and i'm sure i'm not spoiling anything when i say In Rainbows being Radiohead's highest Album would be a massive upset.

39. LovelessMy Bloody Valentine
https://i.imgur.com/o228V12.jpg
(111 Points, 3 Lists)
Loveless was my #2! Pretty surprised it made it this high, wasn't even sure if it would at all. I got into it when i was a 17 year old stoner (no longer smoke, weed or cigarettes) when my even bigger stoner uncle introduced me to it, thankfully it was on original release vinyl (which he gave me last year ) so it sounded close to how it's supposed to. Completely get people not liking it and it's a problem that you can't just post a youtube and get them into it as that's so far from how it's supposed to sound, i love it though it's just one of the most atmospheric and beautiful things i've heard. I'm also ready to make the claim (state the fact) that Loveless has the best first ten seconds of any album, nothing hooks me sooner. Funnily enough i'm not crazy about Shoegaze past them, i did have another Shoegaze Album on my list but it's nowhere near Loveless and i've struggled to get into some of the genre's most acclaimed bands. Glad it got so high.

No U2 on my ballot, if there had been it would have been either Boy or October.

I reckon I have a max of three more that might still make the countdown but I'd not be surprised if it were just the one.
Iroquois
08-25-18, 08:55 AM
Loveless was my #23. I still consider the opening few seconds of "Only Shallow" to be one of the most crystal-clear moments of me instantly falling in love with an entire album and it's just as well that the rest of the album does a good job of matching that promise.
Ten used to be a favourite but now it is not (further attempts to dig into Pearl Jam's discography have never gripped me like it either).
Joshua Tree is alright.
The Band is definitely good.
cricket
08-25-18, 08:55 AM
Ten, The Band, and The Joshua Tree are all worthy of their high rankings. The only My Bloody Valentine I know of is the movie and its remake.
Never liked U2, Pearl Jam has some decent songs but not really into them either and never heard of My Bloody Valentine or The Band before.
36. IllmaticNas
https://i.imgur.com/1P7g8Dv.jpg
(114 Points, 3 Lists)
Illmatic was my #4, it was my highest Hip Hop Album. Man, i don't even know what to say about it. Oddly Nas was one of the few prior to 2000 well known rappers that my brother in law didn't introduce me to, never actually found out what the deal was there whether he didn't like him or if he just wasn't familiar with him, who knows. Anyway, the first time i remember hearing him was his diss track to Jay Z (Ether), at the time i was a big Jay Z fan so i was completely hostile to it and Nas who i didn't know, wasn't until a few months later that i heard Illmatic and wa blown away. It's sad that he hasn't followed up with it that well, i mean i quite like It Was Written and Stillmatic but they aren't that relistenable to me while i know i'll be listening to Illmatic for the rest of my life.

Pearl Jam's Ten was played pretty heavily in my house because my mom was a fan. Very good album but didn't get my vote. I had U2's The Joshua Tree on my short list but ultimately cut it. It's an incredible album by a once great band. It's just a shame they've lost that greatness.

Never heard of The Replacements. Soundgarden has few good songs and Cornell was good vocalist. Portishead is familiar name but not sure if I've heard them. Gaye is also familiar name and I'm sure I've heard some of his songs but can't connect him to anything.
Listening to What's Going On now and it has its moments but I really hate how many of these black male singers do the high vocals. He has pretty nice voice when he sings normally, though.

My mom was a Soundgarden fan back in the day so Superunknown got played a lot. I think it's a very good album but I didn't vote for it. I know I've heard that Led Zep album because my brother has been a fan for a long time, but I couldn't even tell you which songs are on it and it didn't get my vote.

I'm not sick of Camo running countdowns. Anything that gets him posting more is a-okay with me.
But I read very little - like probably average 1 book a year if that - and most of those are biographies or autobiographies.

That's the biggest roadblock for one, i'm imagining those who do read oftens reading interests are incredibly varied so you'd need loads more lists than most of the other Countdowns to arrive at any sort of consensus. There's next to no book discussion here so i can't see that many lists being possible. Not saying those who don't post about books don't read, but they choose not to discuss them so i don't think they'd have much interest in a countdown.

I was originally thinking that restricting such countdown to fictional novels or something would help to create some sort of consensus. But there's the issue that some people mostly read non-fiction so it would just reduce the amount of lists. It would definitely require some planning on how to run Book countdown but I still think it would be worth a shot.
I've already started to build my own list and it's also surprisingly difficult because I haven't kept any diary or ratings for books. It'll also be a lot more prone to nostalgia and old impressions because re-reading books isn't as easy (or at least as fast) as rewatching a film or listening to an album.

Never got the big deal about Arcade Fire. They're ok...saw them live but wasn't impressed. Also, the RUDEST crowd I've ever been in. Wow.
Weird how that happens...I go to dozens of metal and death metal shows, and everyone is always happy, cheerful, and nice to others in the crowd. And yet, there is this odd stigma where people who don't listen to metal think metal fans are all angry and violent.
Meanwhile, I went to see Lights (dream pop artist from Canada), and some ******* gets all aggressive with me for being "too tall, and I should stay in the back so short people can see." As if out of the entire music hall, I am somehow blocking all visibility beyond the point I am standing. I tell the guy that I am attending the show with several other (and very short) people, and I am not leaving my wife, sister and nieces to go watch the show by myself. The guy calls me "trash" and tries to start a fight with me! Of course, I am not going to fight some kid at a pop show, but he jabs his finger into my chest, calling me names. My wife has no reservations about fighting, it seems, and tackles the guy onto the ground. Yikes! The bouncers had been watching the whole thing, so they raz the kid about getting slammed by a chick, and then proceed to throw him out. Good times!

when I was in college I got to play in the campus radio station for a semester or two. There was a double-disc compilation of techno, jungle, drum-n-bass, etc. I guess that was the thing then. Anyway, my job was to listen through any demos or promo CDs that would come in and mark any tracks with explicit lyrics. I got this double-disc set and fell in love with one of the tracks from the second disc. I would constantly call in and request specifically "the blue and red double-disc set behind you on the shelf, second disc, track whatever." To this day I swear the group was named Can and the track title was Spoon but every. single. time. I look for it, all I get is this this band in the list.

Funeral is good but I never truly loved it and thus didn't vote for it.

Kid-A just barely missed my list in favor of Amnesiac at my 39 spot. Kid-A was intense for the time. Absolutely loved it and probably made my studio roomies hate me, but when Amnesiac was released I was in pure awe. This album had me within 5 seconds of the intro track, "Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Can." I'm still swaying to the groove of "I Might Be Wrong." This was a perfect compliment to Kid-A and in my opinion was a stronger album overall. These tracks spoke to me personally---in a way that Kid-A never quite could.
And my cat at the time, George, loved it too.
