Queen is yet another classic artist whose hits I enjoy, but I've never bothered to listen to an actual album. At some point I probably ought to remedy that.

Much prefer early Queen, have never even listened to that one.
Well done Ms. M though.

Like i said, same i haven't listened to a studio album of theirs. I don't even know what one is most often called their best. They feel like the best example of a Greatest Hits Band to me.

Last time I listen to some guy in a banana hammock!
Like many others I like individual Queen songs but every time I try to listen an album I get bored. They're just so uneven.

Well their Greatest Hits has become a staple of any road trip I take with my best friend. Bohemian Rhapsody, complete with Wayne's World style sing-along, is an absolute requirement.
I had known Queen hits, but it was the first whole album of them I listened and it's the only one full album of Queen I like:)

Suede and Different Class were both on my list. I was a huge fan of Suede back in the day and still like them a lot now, they had an album out a couple of years ago that was really good. Their self-titled debut wasn't the only one on my list but probably the only one that will show up on the countdown. I wasn't as big a Pulp fan but they were still pretty big on the Britpop horizon and Different Class is an album with a definite identity and a string of good songs. I think I had two versions of the single Something Changed on cassette.
It sounds like either something on my list somehow made it high on the countdown, (not likely), or the only album from my list to make the countdown is Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers, (my 1-pointer).

Faith is alright, though I don't feel strongly about it one way or another. It's certainly not my favourite Cure album (and I'm inclined to assume that Disintegration will be appearing sooner or later).
Remain in Light is my #1. So much of what I like about music in general can be found condensed into this album, plus Talking Heads are just my kind of band and their first four albums are one of the finest runs of music ever made (of which this album is clearly the peak).
I don't f*ck with Oasis so of course I don't f*ck with Definitely Maybe (and won't f*ck with Morning Glory when it shows up).
Even when I was actively interested in listening to Dylan, Blonde on Blonde always felt like a bit of a struggle to engage with. I may yet give it another chance now.
Back in Black...eh, I guess there are at least a couple of okay songs but it (and AC/DC in general) is just too bone-headed for me to ever sincerely like (which makes it of a piece with the likes of the Doors or GNR).

I suppose I'll give this album a try. I've definitely heard of Talking Heads and quite likely even heard some songs but I have absolutely no recollection at all what they sound like.
Ho hum. Two from the last five five were mine, but if I can't care, nobody else really would.

Should watch Stop Making Sense as well. Haven't done it myself yet but think i might in the next few days after this Countdown has reminded me. It's directed by Jonathan Demme: Philadelphia, Silence of the Lambs, Something Wild, etc.

I like Oasis' music, I just don't like the screeching, can't sing vocals. That's pretty much true for any popular bands that I don't like...usually it's because I can't stand the vocals.
Oasis are very nostalgic for me except it's not in a good way, they're like a bad memory. Not sure what the negative connection there is but i don't like listening to them anymore as a result, especially Wonderwall which i never liked.

I guess I'll never figure out how to internet, aw shucks.
It was my random connection to Oasis and the fabulous Blockbuster Music stores of my youth. The typical high school miscreant behavior. We would do this ... Pile in a car and drive in to town. Go to a store and do this ... Listen to whatever we had procured while trying not to get caught disgracing our family names.
Funny how things work out. I had two of the big case logic, 2 disc a page (I mean the 4 per page were obscene, who needs that much) cases. Freshman year of college, went for a ride, took my cds because we didn't have ipods and you just might need to listen to any single one of those discs, sat down to parlay with some people in front of the dorms, got up and left my cases on the bench, never to see them again. The universe just smooths things out like that.

To elaborate on this GIF:
Definitely Maybe is my #45. First of all - what's up with all the indifference towards Oasis? Maybe it's karma for mocking Bob Dylan. :p
Well, I kinda understand why. Oasis is a very derivative band, and lo-fi too. Liam, by definition, is a bad singer (an awesome vocalist though) and his technique is just about the worst. Noel - every riff he plays is an extremely loud version of a Beatles riff. The other band members are fine, but there's nothing special about them. The production...
But the reason I like Oasis so much though is that the negative aspects I mentioned are actually positives for me. Here are 5 lads who started from working-classs Manchester, and played the brightest, simplest, and catchiest music and as a way to represent their hopes for a better future. This lyric, from their song 'Whatever', pretty much sums it up:
"I'm free to be whatever I, whatever I choose and I'll sing the blues if I want..."

I'm an Oasis hater. But I don't mind Liam Gallagher's solo stuff so far. It's just Oasis's whine isn't my kind of whine when I'm into whine.
I do long division to Math Rock. The term 'Math Rock' is such an easy way to turn off potential listeners.

At Folsom Prison is good, but I didn't vote for it.
Moving Pictures surprises me not because it showed up but because I didn't actually vote for it this time around - it was top 25 for me the last time but apparently it didn't crack my top 50 at all this time around. That's what I get for thinking I was too cool to vote for it and instead picking a bunch of obscure stuff that I'm willing to bet won't make the final list. In any case, Moving Pictures is a 5/5 for me anyway and I definitely regret not voting for it now.

INXS are ok and Kick for me would be their best, don't listen to them much these days though and consequently didnae vote for them.
Moving Pictures was my #2. Rush is probably my favorite band of all time, as my adoration for them started in the 70s, and hasn't really let up since. I have seen them many times live, including their final tour a couple of years ago. There are Rush records I like almost as much, such as Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, and 2112, but I chose what I think is the quintessential Rush record in Moving Pictures. I was hoping for a Top 25 from this classic progressive rock album, but it fell way short of that, coming in at #66.

Kick was my #13. So many fantastic songs and Michael Hutchence had such a sexy voice (not bad on the eyes either :randy: ).

True Blue and Like a Prayer by Madonna are actually quite good albums. Even used to have the latter as a vinyl before I sold all my vinyls away. Didn't vote for either album, though (they're not that good in my opinion).

I've heard True Blue as background noise and found it passable, will have to give it a proper listen some time.

Neil, obviously, but Stewart Copeland is the greatest drummer of all-time.
I have trouble handing that accolade out. Both Peart and Copeland were very important to the evolution and growth of the approach to playing percussion, and they did it at a time where the average player was of a much lower skill level than today. Now, it seems like almost every metal show I attend has this monstrous, machine of a drummer that fires off insane fills and rudiments at ridiculous speeds. Some of them even play with nuance! ;)
I think it's easy to list of guys that changed the game or brought a new approach to drums than it is to isolate one person that was or is the absolute best player. Again, both Copeland Peart, and probably Carey all fit the bill in that regard. I don't see Carey being as influential though.

Fair enough, but I regard Copeland highly because I actually don't like the type of drumming that's trending these days - 400 bpm blast beats, double bass-drum fills, gospel chops... the list goes on. It's all exhausting to me. I like Copeland because he's so amazingly creative with the relatively little equipment. Also, the reggae influence man! :D
