33 of you sent lists for a Countdown of 130 and a total of 1057 different Albums with votes  I believe that's the first time any of these Countdowns has had 1000 different items or anywhere near it even. Apologies in advance for any mistakes as i'm positive i made some, i did this without a spreadsheet in just over a week and there were over a Thousand Albums got to have messed up in some places. If you point any out i won't be fixing them while the Countdown is ongoing as it's just too complicated to rearrange everything, i'll make a note at the end however. To make the Countdown an Album had to have at least 50 Points and be on at least 2 lists since i was accepting lists of 50.
Today i will be posting the one-pointers followed by the 30 Albums outside the top 100 throughout the day, followed by 5 per day meaning this will take three weeks in total. Everyone who sent a list got at least one onto the Countdown and the majority got at least five, thanks to everyone that sent a list. Unlike my other Countdowns i won't be mentioning everyone because it's not a one day thing, it'll be hard to miss. Thanks to everyone who posted in the pre-countdown thread. Special thanks to Chypmunk for getting me a couple of lists and for talking to be about random nonsense which kept the thread in Now Playing almost constantly for over a week. And especially special thanks to Cat for making the awesome banner  As usual my presentation will be as plain as can be.

My sister bought the Jive Bunny album...
Anyway, good luck with the countdown Camo!
The first Album out is one of mine, i had Surfer Rosa high. Doolittle is probably a better Album and i love Trompe Le Monde and Bossanova but i don't have the nostalgia and personal connection to them. I first bought it when i was 11 after seeing Fight Club for the first time  Douchiest way to get into an Album but i'm sure i'm not the only one, Where Is My Mind blew my 13 year old mind and i had to own it. As a result i probably heard Surfer Rosa 100 times before i bought anything else by them. Think it was the first Album i became obsessed with which wasn't Rap, Classic Rock or The Beatles. Obviously it's not that far removed from the latter two but it was still an important step for me. Also the first Surfer Rosa Album i bought came with Come On Pilgrim which is an 8 song Mini-Album so i still think of them as one in my head. To my favourite member for the next couple of hours for voting for it, you know who you are ;) Also it was annoying having to use a picture without boobs, damn you Yoda and your boob fascism!
My sister bought the Jive Bunny album...
It was some sort of a hit when I was in junior high. Just didn't expect it to be the kind of music that still lives on after almost 30 years.

I remember a song played at the end.
I struggled to get into Kendrick for quite a while, i liked the lyrics but couldn't enjoy them that much as songs. Wasn't until i first heard Damn which for whatever reason worked for me right away and i came to appreciate both GKMC and Butterfly. Damn is still my favourite which i know is a minority opinion followed by Butterfly then GKMC. Didn't vote for any of them however.

I only got into King Crimson a few years ago, they're great and i briefly considered voting for one of their Albums but i haven't listened to them often enough to do so. I've heard songs by Cat Stevens but never an Album.

It's really frustrating that this clip is what Kendrick is reduced to in the eyes of a lot of people. He's much more than this awkward moment.
I love that clip. I love the idea that he deliberately picked out a white person to set it up even more  The genius of that is either they actually say it or they awkwardly sing n-word or something making their rap even more white than it already is.
Kendrick rules.

No it's not. He's a great rapper, but this is part of him too. Jerry Garcia once kept thousands of people from rioting by his influence. I don't think there was malice in the girl. He owns some of the responsibility for putting her in that position. Even more, if he is as insightful and thoughtful as reported, he really should have known better. Should she have not said it, I guess. Then again, she shouldn't be a Kendrick Lamar fan then.
We can't ignore living in the hot take world now. Whatever has the most eyes on it bubbles to the top. I take a slant like I do with comedy and many of the comedians live by. There is no line in art.

Nah, it makes him look like an assh*le. It gives people who can't wait to take a swipe at a black guy or a rapper ammo. I don't think that he deliberately picked out a white, ticket-buying fan of his to embarrass onstage and all over the internet. I think it was a heat of the moment incident that is hard to blame him for, but still looks bad on his part. Probably because he is a man and she is young girl, so it looks like he is a bully. She's clearly not free from blame either, but her guard was clearly down and she thought she was "in". Not a good look for anybody.

Was joking about him doing it deliberately, i heard some racists (genuine blatant proud racists) theorizing that he did so i flipped it. I don't give a crap if she was embarrassed tbh she shouldn't have said it, but i did think after i made that post about the abuse she possibly suffered and i agree both of them were wrong because of that.
Remarkable though. I remember there was a video of some white dude at a rap battle who said it, always thought that video was fake because it cuts out before anything is said.

I don't think it makes him look like an *******. Musicians, actors, athletes have never been role models in my book. Very rarely do you have a high-level operator in any field that is Mr. Rogers.
I think this is a perfect example of how things get blown out of proportion by every side now. This was a thing. It happened. Nothing major, but hot take artist used it to fill their sails.
The issue I have is how this is art. Art transcends to me. I'm not a great thinker or writer, but this is so easy to see to me. It really isn't an issue.
Before anyone takes anything the wrong way, I wanna make clear that I mean this in how it applies to art. Not the real world, not day-to-day life, but art.
Really want to move on from this topic personally as it's a pretty ugly way to start the thread so i'll be posting the next five Albums now.

Lolita Nation was my #50 and a somewhat deliberate attempt to get onto the one-pointer list. A delightfully weird piece of indie-rock obscurity from the mid-'80s that mixes poppy melodies with complex lyrics and disjointed stabs at experimentation to result in a rather singular beast that could never quite be replicated. (Speaking of one-pointers, I did consider Maggot Brain for the list but ultimately didn't - currently wonder if it's better that it made the one-pointers rather than the void between them and the main list).

Surfer Rosa is pretty good, but I never considered it a major favourite, let alone a contender for my list. I've always ever-so-slightly preferred it to Doolittle, though.
To Pimp a Butterfly is obviously masterful and was on my list of contenders but I ultimately didn't pick it.
Red was my #49. It was a toss-up between this and In the Court of the Crimson King but I opted to go with this one's hard rock vibe (dat title track) over the latter's more fanciful tendencies. They're both great albums, though.
Haven't heard Tea for the Tillerman.

The reason I say it's frustrating that this is what he is reduced to is because his music is so much bigger than this moment. He is fair in his music, he doesn't have to set anybody up in his music. He paints the truth in his music. Tricking a drunk white girl who loves Kendrick's music into saying a word he knows is used quite frequently in his song just to make a point about anything feels dirty. And I do think Kendrick is thoughtful, so I hope that what I just said isn't the case. I hope that Kendrick had a moment of poor judgment, whether that be putting a microphone in that girl's hand or choosing to put her on blast the way he did. She clearly wasn't being malicious. And nobody is immune to poor judgment. That said, I can't wait for whatever Kendrick comes out with next.
Had a long conversation with Chyp about Joy Division here after i watched and posted about 24 Hour Party People. Like i told him there's something about Joy Division that prevents them from becoming a favourite but i do like them and i like Closer better than Unknown Pleasures. It's easier to remember everything when you've listening to the same stuff for 30 years:p
I think I can name two R.E.M. songs (Losing My Religion and Man in the Moon) and while they're not terrible they don't encourage me to delve deeper. I'm sure I've heard few others as well but can't remember anything of them.

Pleased to see this, but I think I voted for the first RTJ album. This might be the better album, but I listened to the first one more and I saw them in concert before the second one came out. In fact, I saw them during the lead up to the second album. They had released "Close Your Eyes (and Count to F*ck) like the day before, or something like that. Then they played it at the show and the crowd of which I was part of went nuts. Good times.

Never really been able to get into R.E.M., but "Losing My Religion" has always worked for me because I like singing along to it.
Same. Apart from the odd song here and there, I couldn't get into REM. Felt like I was the only one who did't get it...
Never even heard of Run the Jewels. Is it rap (based on the gold chain on the cover)?
Yeah, Hip Hop. Two dudes.

Joy Division wasn't really a thing in America, right? Cause I didn't really know about them until the movie.

Part of the reason it's speculated Curtis killed himself was because they were supposed to tour America and there was no way he could do it with how bad his epilepsy was. So yeah, they never toured America which is why i don't think they've ever been that big there. New Order would be bigger probably.

Closer and Murmur are both solid, great albums - still didn't even consider voting for them, though.
Run the Jewels 2 is top 100 material for me. Their best album so far (refines the first one, tighter than the third one).
Wow, I already have a lot to post about already...

To Pimp a Butterfly is my #3.
Kendrick is a one-in-a-generation artist, and I'm glad to be living in an era where his musical output is prolific and consistently mind-blowing. Good Kid and DAMN are both fantastic albums, but his sophomoric effort will always be my favorite. Why? Because it cured my ignorant fear of hip-hop.
A few years ago, I absolutely hated hip-hop. Hated hated hated it. Hell, for a while, U Can't Touch This was one of my favorite songs in the genre, simply because it had a poppy, retro feel to it. So I don't even know how I even clicked on TPAB, though I hazily remember Rolling Stone Magazine's glowing review. Well, after the first few tracks, my world turned upside down. I realized that hip-hop could be rich in musicality and complex in its thematic statements. Just listen to the way Kendrick effortlessly blends jazz and funk riffs and beats, which are rarely heard in modern hip-hop, with poignant lyrics about self-reflection and the glossy but corrupted world that surrounds him. He's a god damn storyteller, like a medieval bard who, instead of going from castle to castle, travels through the Southern California area he grew up in.
After that euphoric experience, for a while I only listened to acclaimed hip-hop albums. Out of those albums, some of them are good, and some of them are great, but none of them are as good as TPAB. Thank you Kendrick. I mean it.

Surfer Rosa is my #43.
The Pixies is one my favorite bands, and is basically what you get if you throw Buddy Holly and post-punk records into a boiling pot of hard drugs, so yeah, brilliant stuff. I've always loved how to-the-point they are; most of the songs on Surfer Rosa are about two minutes longs, with no time wasted on extended riffs or ear-worm choruses. An explosive drum track, Francis Black's snarly, gasping voice, and an immediately catchy guitar riff or two is all you get per song, but really, that's all you need.
Listening to them, it's shockingly easy to realize their influence on 90s grunge and alternative rock music. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time. If they came out with Surfer Rosa during the early 90s, all cylinders blazing, they would have absolute superstars. At the same time, their untimely activity during the 80s is why we call The Pixies innovators.

Voted for a different, more obvious Floyd album because I wanted to rep them and give them the best chance at securing a high placement. I still plan on listening to everything they've put out, but I'm lacking in some departments. I'm pretty sure I've heard this one, but it's not as imprinted on my brain as a couple others.
Pink Floyd is one of the BIG names I've never been able to get into. There are good parts in their songs but too often they sound (to me) like pointless meandering. Probably I just like more structured songs.

I didn't think much of it until around my 20th listen by which time my appreciation for a different better performing Album was plummeting.

Again, that's the last for now.
Despite my alleged Scottishness i somehow had never heard a song by Mogwai before i listened to that Album for this Countdown, liked it quite a lot. Also like that they called it Mogwai Young Team. Young Team is often the name given to gangs hear in Glasgow, they are usually known with a Y then two other initials, for example the one in the area i lived in as a kid was known as YSC for Young Sooside (Southside not Suicide) Cumbie (no idea). After reading about them i think they were mocking how ridiculous that is since full grown men are often part of the YOUNG TEAM.

As I'm playing catch up I'm only gonna comment on those that actually made my ballot...
Dream City Film Club's Stranger Blues was my one-pointer. This is their shortest offering, a mini-lp really, clocking in at only 31 minutes but all six tracks are decent imo.
Ridiculously low for JD's Closer but I'm not surprised - first of mine to make the countdown and will forever be my favourite album and without it I almost certainly wouldn't be here.
I absolutely HATED the Pixies in my teens. But, like you, I was blown away by that creepy vocal howl soundtrack in Fighclub. After tracking the group down I was in shock.
I still couldn't bring myself to buying so many discs so I settled on a decent "hits" CD. Great music. As long as I avoid Here Comes Your Man which is what initially inspire my hatred. The video of it.

Oh, forgot to mention. There wasn't that much black metal on my list. I just counted and it's 2 to 7 depending on how strict definitions we'd use. I'd say 4 or 5.
Loved The Doors just a few years ago. My best friends dad was obsessed with them so me and my friend dismissed them as lame old people music until we actually listened to them in out mid teens. Few years back i would have had an Album (not Morrison Hotel however, never been that into that) on my list but i've really went off them in recent years for whatever reason.

Iirc it was a late high vote that got it onto the Countdown.
I like Death Grips, not enough to vote for them though. Posting three more over the next 10-15 minutes then i'll take another break as that's halfway done today.
Yeah, that's about what I think of it too.
As for Bitches Brew, I'd consider it top 100 material.

Not a big fan of Kate Bush, personally. Don't know what it is but her music puts me to sleep. Understand the love though and another great Album cover.

I kinda feel the same way. Occasionally I try to listen to her while playing or something but just can't get a grip on her music. One of my friends used to be huge Kate Bush fan though.

The last for now. Will post todays remaining 15 in groups of five over the next four hours or so.
Dookie is the only Green Day Album i like as a whole, nowhere near my list though.

Not my favourite from the Bushbaby (Never For Ever is) but helluva debut for a girl of her age at the time and some cracking tracks on it.

It's an alright album - don't love or hate it. Interesting reissue cover art.
Green Day is passable background music but I'd never actually listen to it. I don't hate it or anything but it's just doesn't do anything to me.

I've only heard one or two songs of Kendrick Lamar's that were nominated in the music threads. I can't say I get him....yet. With rap and hip hop it's the backing music that hooks me first. Each and every time, I've noticed.
I never grab lyrics and don't really "hear" them. It is more a tempo and delivery as an instrument that I hear.
LL Cool J's "Jack the Ripper" and Tupac's "Hit em' Up" really personify this to me.

Dookie is nice album. tend to believe it been tone down -universally- because it was-you-know-what from edgy and sellout green day
Not my vote tho'

Morrison Hotel was my #40.
I like Green Day but didn't vote for them.
Don't like what I've heard from Bush and there were a couple of new entries I've never heard of.
My list for today since no more of mine are gonna show up:
09. Pixies - Surfer Rosa
22. R.E.M - Murmur
Heard them all except the Cat Stevens one.
Will post the next five starting from around 3.30.

My pick that has show today-Since the order was left in my notebook here what i can remember-
KC - Red - 3rd
Pink Floyd - Meddle - 47th or 48th
Not really sure there will be more, probably self predict for two or three, except it didnt get enough 50 point minimum as i believe it quiet popular choice

Lindsey Buckingham's Law and Order from the One-Pointers is mine, of course. He's my favorite living artist. It's definitely his weakest solo effort but still a lot of fun.
I'm seeing some other great artists like R.E.M., Cat Stevens, George Michael, and The Doors, but none of those albums got my vote.
Also thanks to cat_sidhe for including Tom Petty in the banner.

I had Songs of Love and Hate at #28. In retrospect, that may have been a little high but like I said before, I wasn't 100% happy with my list - but hey, it works since this is not a happy album.

In prep for this list i listened to an extended version of Rumours with tonnes of live versions and stuff, was like two hours long not sure why i listened to the whole thing. I quite like it, some songs are great but i think it's a bit inconsistent.
Iroquois
08-12-18, 11:50 AM
Rumours is decent.
I LOVE Kate Bush like any good ol British gay, but I do get the criticism of her music putting you to sleep, some of her albums do that to me  But I adore The Kick Inside and the fact she was only 19 when she produced the likes of Wuthering Heights blows my mind. I'd love to see her live but she's basically Greta Garbo 2.0 these days.

Like some Cream better than others, don't think I've ever actually listened to Disraeli Gears all the way through. Have Rumours, didnae vote for it though.
but I do get the criticism of her music putting you to sleep,
To be fair the last time i tried to listen to her it was her (i think) latest Live Album which is like 3 Hours long or something. Would maybe like her older stuff if i gave them a shot again.
I'm glad Rumours made the list too, although it's not my favourite album by Fleetwood Mac. I considered it though.

In other news:
Bitches Brew is bitchin', in a good way. I remember a great joke cricket made about Kate Bush, and that's it. Dookie is truly dookie. I like Elastica's debut album, but not enough. Voted for a different The Doors album.

Oh yes. I know Hallelujah from him (Leonard Cohen) and nothing else. Since that song does not belong to the album cited, can't say I know much about the album or the author.
(The most I know about Leonard Cohen is from a Nirvana song:
"Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld
So I can sigh eternally"
which, to me, sounds that his music is quite spiritual.)

Floodland was my #34. My only real problem with it is that it does kind of drop off towards the end (unlike the band's other two albums having excellent closers) but for at least three-quarters of its length it's killer track after killer track.

I'd have Amnesiac 6/9 of Radiohead's Albums, that's more a testament to their consistency than anything wrong with the Album. Glad it made it as i only expected the big three, 8 of their 9 Albums got votes, of course they didn't all make it.

So far my One-Pointer is still the only one to make an appearance from my ballot. I would've thought anything of mine to make the list proper would be pretty low ranking. I guess just not this low ranking.
It is actually one of my top favorite Radiohead albums, certainly the most important to my life. And their most underrated IMO.
