top 10 prediction:

10. Up
9. Lost in Translation
8. Pan's Labyrinth
7. The Departed
6. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
5. Memento
4. The Dark Knight
3. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
1. Mulholland Dr.

I'd prefer that one if it wasn't for the two Nolan movies.

I'll take a somewhat optimistic punt:

10. Donnie Darko
9. Inglorious Basterds
8. The Dark Knight
7. City of God
6. Pan's Labyrinth
5. There Will Be Blood
4. Amelie
3. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
1. Mulholland Drive

Maybe it will, but Return of the King is the best of the three? I beg to diffah, suh!

I have a soft spot for the pathos in that marvelous ending, so I do prefer Return of the King but it's close. I'd be happy to see them in any order.

so far 7 films from my list, though I think 11 more may have a shot (3 with outside chances). So in all i think i'll get 15.

It's close. I think I prefer it slightly. But it admittedly depends on my mood, and I'd probably agree with most of the arguments you'd make the other way. Doesn't mean I wouldn't mind hearing 'em, though! :) Might be a fun exercise, especially since I'm guessing we both love both of 'em.

Yeah, I'm a fan of all three, actually. I do think The Two Towers gets shafted a bit since it's the middle act, but there's some fantastic pacing and production value there. Return of the King is great for a lot of reasons (and I'm one of the few who actually enjoys the death march of endings), but I think some of the performances in this film are really strong and the finale is legitimately an emotional one.

BUT...

I believe the truest one is still Fellowship. And I don't mean that in terms of Tolkien-ic purity, although that's probably true too. I feel like that first film, in some ways, was made free of studio influence. New Line didn't really understand what they had, probably, and didn't steer the film to serve their marketing and demographic needs as much as they did in the two sequels.

So what we got was a true fantasy film, akin to Legend or Conan the Barbarian or The Neverending Story. In other words, we got a Peter Jackson original... which turned out to be a Tolkien original. That first film is tighter, truer to the books, and devoid of contemporary influence. It just feels like a classic to me in the way the others don't. For my money, it's the best fantasy film anyone's ever made.

I have a soft spot for the pathos in that marvelous ending, so I do prefer Return of the King but it's close. I'd be happy to see them in any order.

Yeah, like I said, the ending(s) are really strong, as are several of the scenes nearing the end. Ian McKellen and Sean Astin, in particular, give that film real emotional punch.

EDIT: Something else I'd say about Return of the King, though, is that it feels really packed and crowded. Unlike Fellowship, which feels really nice in terms of pace, runtime, and narrative arc, Return is jammed with lots of really big set pieces, which pushes the film into something of a sprint to the end. Not a major complaint, but Fellowship, again, is the tighter film, I think.

There used to be a time that I didn't care for Lord of the Rings, but last time I watched ROTK it was fantastic and its one of those movies that is getting better with age for me. Strange how you don't like a movie much and then 5-10 years later it becomes great for you. Not sure if I'm alone with things like this happening?:p

It happens to me, but usually the other way 'round. I used to love Gladiator, but as time goes on, I find that I'm less and less impressed by it. It's a decent film. Oscar worthy, though? Nope.

I'm with you there.

They were filmed concurrently though, right? I'm not sure I see how the studio could have more influence over the second and third movie if that's the case, unless they had influence on the editing process that made a big difference, which I doubt.

Yeah, like I said, the ending(s) are really strong, as are several of the scenes nearing the end. Ian McKellen and Sean Astin, in particular, give that film real emotional punch.

Couldn't agree more - those are the two I'd single out, if any.

I can see that, but although I'm able to differentiate them in terms of my (marginal) preference, in a lot of ways I still see the trilogy as one big movie with one big narrative arc taking precedent over the three separate ones. Return is the final act, essentially. The quicker pace and greater volume of set-pieces is just mirroring the fact that these characters are getting more desperate and this gargantuan 10-hour movie is coming to a conclusion.

They were filmed concurrently, yes, though I think the release of Fellowship (and its subsequent critical and commercial success worldwide) happened around the time that The Two Towers wrapped shooting and/or went into preliminary post-production.

The biggest example of how I think the films changed is in the dialogue. Gimli, Merry, and Pippin are used as comic relief throughout, but increasingly so in the subsequent films. They start to throw in some recurring jokes, which give the films something of a "popcorn" movie feel. It just felt a little manufactured to me, in a way that nothing in Fellowship really does.

It also occurs to me, though, that the increasingly heavy dependence on CG visual effects probably has a lot to do with this too. Fellowship is a bit more old-fashioned because most of the effects, save some of the Moria stuff, is pretty low key and grounded in the real. Return, by contrast, is a computer-generated extravaganza. It's not terribly overdone, and most of the effects still look great, but... it doesn't have that old-fashioned fantasy feel.

Yeah, good point. I guess I was speaking more to the point that Fellowship, though still pretty long, meanders nicely and is punctuated by periods of great action. Return is considerably longer and quite the emotional/action-packed gauntlet. I find the former easier to watch more often because of this.

My prediction:

1. Mulholland Drive
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
4. Memento
5. The Departed
6. City of God
7. The Dark Knight
8. Pan's Labyrinth
9. There Will Be Blood
10. Amelie

The bottom eight is a just a guess, but I think we all know what the top two will come down to. Up, Spirited Away, and Fellowship might sneak in there as well.

I was beginning to think Dancer In the Dark was not going to make it, pleased it got in. 23 on my list.

Ratatouille I don't love as much as everyone else seems to. I just don't find rats cute.

Dancer In The Dark I have not seen, but I love Ratatouille (it wasn't on my list, though).

My predictions for the top ten (in no order):

Mulholland Drive
The Departed
City Of God
Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King
The Dark Knight
Amelie
Oldboy
No Country For Old Men
Memento

I'm wondering if Wall-E will split the Pixar vote though. Not that i'm such a fan of it but seems to be held in equally, if not higher, esteem than Up.

I think something like The Dark Knight will garner the most votes but whether it'll convert to enough points to beat Mulholland Drive which imagine would be higher on fewer lists. I'd be disappointed if The Departed made it that high, was Hugo eligible? I'd like to see that rank top 10 instead.

Dancer In The Dark ranked at #20 on my list.

Not sure how cinema verite has been successful since Lars Trier arrogantly championed it in his Dogme 95. One major complain I hear about this film is that if it were shot without handheld cam it would be much better. I somewhat agree. Then again the final sequence is so devastating and nauseating thanks to the camerawork I hesitate to denounce shaky cam.

Yay! Another movie from my list. Ratatouille was ranked at #3, of course.

While Up is perhaps Pixar's best work, Ratatouille is my favorite. The attention to detail is phenomenal. The colors are so vibrant and rich. The story is funny and touching. And the rats are freaking adorable.

Why didn't you think it would make it? And why do you have no desire to see it?

I'm not at all surprised to see The Lives of Others, and it deserves its place, one of the better films of the millennium. Wasn't on my list and I don't love it quite as much as some other people here, but it's a good film.

The Prestige is quite good, but I don't remember it being quite this popular when it was released. Perhaps it's been reevaluated in the light of the Batman movies. It is original, though, with good performances from an interesting cast and I'd have been surprised it it wasn't on here.

It's big among film lovers, I think; it won an Oscar, and it's so-oh-oh-oh good. I think it gets that love because it's not only good, but fairly accessible to all audiences. You won't confuse it for an American film, but it doesn't dabble in some of the conventions of foreign cinema that Americans are less likely to find interesting. And I say that with sympathy.

Anyway, it's a fabulous, fabulous movie, and I love it, and I'm going to try to come back soon and gush about it some more.

The Prestige isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea. In fact upon 1st watch I wasn't sure it would even be mine. But you find yourself getting drawn into the story. You find yourself wondering what is behind all the magic. You find yourself watching a duel of magicians constantly looking to top one another and learn each others top secrets. Jackman and Bale couldn't have played this one better, and Nolan needs to get huge credit for originality in this one. I also found myself a huge fan of Caine and Scarlett's performances, which were well fitting for the movie. Without giving away to much, I'd like to say this was one of the better endings that I've seen in a film as well. And the movie just seems to get better with each and every rewatch. This came in at #16 for me, but it could have easily been near or closer to 10. Brilliant.

Honestly, no. I think it's a good film, but it doesn't really stand out as great in any area, outside of maybe soundtrack (if that's your cup of tea). I expected it in the first 20, but not this high.

Not much to say about Almost Famous. Decent film, though I'm also stunned that it's this high. I've always felt like folks who came of age in the 1970s and loved the music, as Crowe did, are the ones who probably get the most out of this film.

I'm not a big fan of The Fountain. I wanted to like it, as the soundtrack is phenomenal and there's some truly beautiful art direction... but the story is just so terribly convoluted. I know a lot of people (like Sedai) have found meaning in the film and love it, but I feel like it's a pretty self-absorbed, pretentious turn by Aronofsky. It seems to want to sell you the "importance" rather than the ideas.

Weeee! I thought it had gotten to the point where we weren't going to see Almost Famous. It was on my top 10 for a long time, it's since gone down very slightly in my estimation but still had it at #5 on my list. Really happy to see it.

Surprised at Almost Famous. Not surprised by The Fountain. Those kinds of films--the one a smaller group of people love, but really love--have an inherent edge under this kind of scoring system, I think.

I recently just watched The Fountain for the first time and have to admit being quite bemused by the whole thing. It's undoubtedly spectacular to look at, and it certainly warrants a repeat viewing at some point.

Almost Famous is a film I enjoy but I've never quite seen the masterpiece in there that other people do.

One thing I've just realised about the list is how few out and out comedies have made it so far. Now is that because it's been a poor decade for comedy films, or because more than about anything else it's really down to personal taste. For example I hated Bridesmaids, loved Due Date. But I know most people would have that the other way round.

LOVE that The Fountain has made it. Couple from my all time top films appearing, which is nice.

The comedies i'd expect are Anchorman / Team America / Borat / Superbad (or something out the Apatow shed) Hangover (reluctantly). I say expect, in that they've probably sustained the most popularity and not dwindled out of collective consciousness. Very few comedies make cultural splashes (and I mean broad comedies not quirky indies) which endear them to these types of lists. I'd be disappointed to not see at least one of the first four, Borat seems the most likely. Bridesmaids seemed more as an antidote to the current comedy, not sure if it'll beat the bigger contenders.

The best comedy from the period though is Four Lions, and this list would have been brilliant to bring it to peoples attention.

Four Lions is superb and wasn't far off making my list. Only one out and out comedy made it onto my list (though I suppose there were a couple of others that could be counted as comedies), but I am sure that won't be on this list, as it won't be fully appreciated for ages, maybe around 500 years.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Team America and maybe Borat too. Both really good, especially the former. I suppose Anchorman might be here too, that's pretty good as well.

Punch Drunk Love?! Oh, Adam Sandler is sooooo worth much more than that!

I mean... God, he only comes out with a new and fascinating film like every year! Jack & Jill was TOPS!

I think it's insulting that Adam only gets serious recognition from that piece of fluff than any of his own myriad of ... of ... of things.

And Toy Story 3?! That's, like, only been out for like, what? Two years? That's hardly enough time to digest its importance, if it has any. I mean, it's a part 3! I haven't seen it yet, but I thought I heard it was the weakest Toy Story. You're putting that thing at #29?! And Punch Drunk Love before it?! Has there really not been ANYTHING else better?! A look back of predictions of my top 44 and a look forward of predictions of the top 28:

Prestige- Correct, as always. This was so easy.
Batman Begins-This actually made it pre-top 44, so it was a miss on my part. Knew it would make it.
The Dark Knight- This is pretty much a top 10 guarantee
Memento- Guaranteed to see the list, probably in top 15
Inception- I can't see this missing the list. However, if a Nolan did, this would be it. It will make it though.
Mulholland Drive- Guaranteed to be in the top 3. It's probably the #1.
No Country for Old Men- A film that is no longer a guarantee, but I would still assume it would find its place.
Social Network- I probably gave this film a bit too much assurance. I think it will miss out with the way the list is shaping.
Zodiac- Ditto, this is probably going to miss at this point.
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring- Top 10 certainly
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers- Probable miss since the 3 films were split.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King- Top 10 as well.
Spirited Away- On the fence but should be safe to make it. If this misses it would be a shame
Up- If Toy Story 3 made it, then there's no way Up misses. Possible top 10 shocker.
Ratatouille- I was correct.
Wall E- We will see this one probably sooner rather than later.
City of God- Probably top 10, or does everyone just assume this makes it and actually doesn't? I think it's easily safe though.
The Departed- Top 10 definitively.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- Top 3, and Mulholland Drive's biggest scare to the top spot.
Amelie- Guaranteed to make it yet.
Lost in Translation- One would assume this would make it, but maybe not. I'm still counting it in.
Mystic River- Better make it, and I think it will. Just figured that it would have been listed by now...
Royal Tenenbaums- The shockers we have seen tells me this won't make it. The only reason I had it on here was that it made the last top 100, so I assumed it would make a millenium top 100.
Donnie Darko- Too many people love this for it not to show up.
The Pianist- I was correct on this.
Inglorious Basterds- I changed my mind. I don't think we will see it.
Little Miss Sunshine- Definitely won't see this anymore.
There will be Blood- Top 15 for sure, with a probable top 10 run.
Pan's Labyrinth- Still marking this down as a guarantee.
The Lives of Others- We saw it.
Oldboy- Yes, it will be there.
Black Swan- Perhaps not.
Let the Right One In- Another correct prediction.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon- I say it sneaks on, but it is another that may be left off due to shockers.
In the Mood for Love- I still assume it makes it.

This count is 21 for sure, leaving wiggle room for 7. With the wiggle room I am assuming maybe 3-4 I originally listed but don't have them as guarantees will still make it.

But honestly, who the hell knows.

Miss Vicky
12-03-12, 12:42 PM
Zodiac- Ditto, this is probably going to miss at this point.

I still think it's going to make an appearance.

Up- If Toy Story 3 made it, then there's no way Up misses. Possible top 10 shocker.

Up will be in the top 10. I'm pretty sure of it. I predicted it being #1, but we'll see.

Zodiac may not make it, although I can still see it making an appearance. It would have to be very soon, though.

I do not understand y'all's obsession with Eternal Sunshine. I hope it DOESN'T make it, but it sounds like it will when figuring all of the chanting for it that's going on.

The Dark Knight is my other guess for #1.

I would not be surprised to see The Social Network soon (urgh.)

From my own list, I still need to see: Fellowship of the Ring -- Inception -- No Country -- Black Swan -- The Town (that's not gonna happen) -- Transamerica (nope) -- Brothers (hell no, unfortunately) -- Precious (please) -- The Dark Knight -- Up -- Observe and Report (no) -- Source Code (NO) -- Jarhead (No, and that's a big shame) -- Little Miss Sunshine (maybe...) -- Kill Bill Volume 2 (doubtful) -- Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith (no).

Here's to beating Sleezy.

About the last two:

Toy Story 3 is reheated left-overs, the first big disappointment from Pixar (which is now 3 for 3). I get some of the appeal: warm nostalgia for earlier movies and pithy pop-culture references but both these things are so common that it doesn't stand out and it wasn't enough for me. As a matter of taste it was mildly enjoyable but looks pretty damn lame next to the other big computer animated movie of 2010, which would have been more deserving of a spot on this list (How to Train Your Dragon).

Punch Drunk Love is interesting mainly for the Philip Seymour Hoffman character and subplot. As for the central core of bitersweet romantic yearning/detachment... um, I don't hate that it made it but now I hope that In the Mood for Love and 2046 beat it out.

I kind of agree with this. I do think Toy Story 3 is stronger than you give it credit for, but that's largely because it's the emotional final entry of a great series and the final scenes alone really punctuate that. But I still wouldn't place it among Pixar's best. (That honor, for the record, would go to Monster's Inc., Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Up.)

I really really liked How To Train Your Dragon, on the other hand, and it almost made my list. I think it stands up to any Pixar film, particularly if you're prone to "a boy and his pet" stories. Great film.

stevo3001
12-04-12, 03:06 PM
How To Train Your Dragon was good- not far short of my top ten of the year in fact. It has one beautiful creation, Toothless, and some wonderful scenes of him in flight, but the rest, while fun, is nothing more than crudely defined cartoon- not least the characterisation.

You would have to go a long, long way to find better characterisatiom than in the Toy Story series. Toy Story 3 uses the familiarity with, the love for, these characters that Pixar has developed to wonderful effect. We know them so well, but here they are all taken somewhere new, literally and figuratively. Because they are so well painted we feel like we're amongst them when they're abandoned, imprisoned and in peril. The scenes in the furnace and on the yard have the cumulative emotional power of three character-driven masterpieces.

Also it's a ton of fun, blessed with hilarious and or horrible new characters to shale things up, smarter and wittier and less reliant on faddish cultural references than anything the competition offered. And like the other gems from Pixar, it has so much soul.

Toy Story 3 is the sixth film from my list to show up.

I like Unbreakable a lot, but it didn't edge Signs as the M. Night Shyamalan flag bearer on my list. My criticism is that I don't think it's got the narrative legs that Signs does, but I really like the production style. It's not just a dark and lonely film; it's introspective and has a bit more of a hopeful undercurrent than a first or second glance might indicate.

While I do like some of Wes Anderson's work (and I absolutely adore The Life Aquatic), I absolutely cannot stand The Royal Tenenbaums. I think it's more confused than poignant and I've never been able to get through it.

I really like Wes Anderson but something about Tenenbaums just didn't do it for me. Might be ensemble nature of it. Maybe it's worth another go but would have happily seen Mr Fox, Life Aquatic or the wonderful Moonrise Kingdom (if it was eligible) take its place.

Surprised to see Unbreakable this far up, not sure if agree with it being so high but that's going to be comparative to what comes.... need to cull the one every other day routine at this point!

That's 8 now from my list:

Juno
Almost Famous
Battle Royale
Lars and the Real Girl
Punch-Drunk Love
Black Swan
Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Let the Right One In

I have seven I'm almost certain will make it, about four that have absolutely zero chance and the rest are possible but have pretty slim chances at this point. So I'm still expecting to end up with about 15-16 from my list. But given the surprises so far, it's anybody's guess, really.

HitchFan97
12-08-12, 02:39 PM
And so begins the last quarter of the list- I doubt there will be two many more surprises at this point. Seven from my list so far:

The Artist
Brick
Batman Begins
Kill Bill: Volume 1
The King's Speech
Punch-Drunk Love
Toy Story 3

Plus Almost Famous, which I would've voted for had I seen it prior to submitting my list. I'm still embarrassed by how few acclaimed films from the new millennium I've seen; in total, I've watched just 18 of the revealed films so far.

JayDee

Two great films though neither made my list. It's been so long since I saw Spirited Away that it never really came into consideration. And Black Swan I've only seen once and while I thought it was great, it's the kind of film that I'd need to watch two or three times to see if I really loved it.

Anyway we've now had 76 films. I personally have seen 46 from the list which isn't too bad, though a number that many on here will trounce. So far 9 films from my list have appeared (Monsters Inc, King's Speech, Lars and the Real Girl, Spider-Man 2, Finding Nemo, Iron Man, Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story 3, Hero)

Oh and picking up on something I posted about a while back. Of the 12 eligible Best Picture Oscar winners just 5 have appeared so far (Gladiator, Million Dollar Baby, Crash, King's Speech, The Artist)

No, I hate everything that bores me.

There was nothing about any of the characters that was likeable enough, despicable enough, or even just flat out interesting enough for me to care about what happened to any of them. Add to that the fact that I really have absolutely no interest in ballet whatsoever and the fact that Natalie Portman just bugs me anyway and you end up with me being completely bored and wishing the movie would just hurry up and end.

Because people were raving about it and I still had Netflix at the time, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I did the same thing with The Wrestler and ended up with the same result.

Disliking an actor/actress or having no interest in the subject matter does not automatically mean I won't like a film. I've had plenty of pleasant surprises in the past, so I do take chances every now and then. In the case of Aronofsky films, those chances haven't yet panned out (saw and disliked Requiem for a Dream, also).

Also, sorry to say, but Spirited Away was on my list, so I'm up to 13.

Spirited Away is wonderful. It's not quite as epic as Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, but it never lacks for charm, intrigue, beauty, and straight up fantasy whimsy. It's very much a Japanese "Alice in Wonderland" and it only gets better every time I watch it. I've never been a huge fan of anime, which is why I think this is about as accessible as it gets for non-fans.

I guess I'm ok with Inception being here, not this high but it's an entertaining movie. I must admit I wasn't expecting to see The Two Towers at this point, the other two are obviously shoe-ins but I thought the separation of the three would block the second one out. Very pleased it's made it, marginally the "worst" of the three but that's like saying your middle child is the "worst" one.

EDIT: Can't decide whether than analogy makes sense or not. Eh, screw it.

Yay for The Two Towers and the other two upcoming LotR. Sorry to those who find them boring.

Those people are silly. :D

I don't know if Two Towers was one of the LOTR movies I saw, but I know that the ones I did see I didn't like. At all.

Inception was a very good movie. #24 of the Millenium, however? Not so much.

This is a great set, Inception was number 3 on my list, Ive only seen it once in theathers, and it left an amazing impression

I watched all the LOTR movies and I'd give the series 4
I watched them in 2008/2009, and I Remember them being boring, but fascinating. I might rewatch the series

Wow. I'm surprised to see The Two Towers at all, much less in the top 25. It's a great film and I love it, but I figured it would play third fiddle to its brothers and we'd have seen it by now. Glad to see it, obviously, but wow.

Inception is a fun film, and definitely a mind boggler, but it starts to lose its luster for me on multiple viewings. I'm not surprised to see it here since we've got so many Nolan fanatics crawling around here, though I do think it could stand to be quite a bit lower.

Two Towers is my favorite of the three, glad it's here even though I didn't vote for it

Inception...sigh

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling. Or, why Inception is good (but not that good).

(Yes, it's practically an Inception essay, deal with it.)

Inception didn't make my personal top 25, but it wasn't too far outside.

I refer you first to my favourite scene in the movie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A_xzurN-Lc

(Arthur played by Joseph Gordon Levitt trying and failing to shoot at some enemies. Eames, played by Tom Hardy comes up behind him and shoots them with a bigger gun, saying, "You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.")

A funny, memorable line. A cool 'blowing s**t up' action movie moment. Supporting characters being cute and interacting with each other. All good things. And all things this movie could do with more of.

The first time I saw this film, I thought there were too many supporting characters. On subsequent viewings I realised that the problem isn't too many supporting characters, it's that they don't get enough screen time. They get all the best lines, ("I bought the airline. Seemed neater.") but those are few and far between. Just imagine Inception with 50% more Arthur and Eames kicking each other's chairs and pulling each other's metaphorical pigtails, 50% more Marion Cotillard shooting people in the knees and 50% less Leonardo di Caprio squinting into the distance. Statistically improbable, perhaps, but a lot more fun.

More good things: The music is great. If there was a poll for best score of the millennium, Inception would be in my top 3 (along with Requiem For A Dream and 28 Days Later). It looks fantastic. The concept is excellent, original and intriguing. I liked the idea of dream architects and forgers and mind heists. There are plot problems, sure, but they're more the sort where you wonder about it and want to watch it again than the sort that make you say 'that was stupid'. I still have questions, and new ones every time. It doesn't let up and kept me gripped throughout, and not only on the first viewing. The ending is more ambiguous than some people give it credit for.

But why oh why did Christopher Nolan not have someone to say 'dream a little bigger' to him? Use the possibilities of dreams. I mean, I'm glad there weren't tangerine trees and marmalade skies, and I know there needed to be a certain amount of logic, but couldn't there be more to dreams than architecture? When Cobb and Mal are stuck in limbo, they can do anything. But they just build a lot of buildings. Where's the imagination? The moment with the train is great, unusual and unpredictable. And I love the zero gravity fight. But there was so much potential for more. Some of the action scenes were just so... straight. It could have been a regular heist movie.

I like it. But if Nolan hadn't been afraid to dream a little bigger, it could have been great.

I think we should have packaged the LOTR films as one. Just sayin'.

There are parts of the LOTR trilogy that I like, but as a whole it doesn't excite me much.

I dislike Inception immensely.

Delighted that Two Towers has made it. Coincidentally I had just meant to post last night that I didn't think it was making the list at all and there it is. Now can't wait to see where the other two have placed.

I need to watch Inception again. Only seen it once and while I did enjoy it a good deal I wasn't blown away by it.

Honestly thought I had voted for Inception, but looks like I left it out. Top film, I don't love it as much as I used to, but still a very good and visually superb thriller. I had The Two Towers on my list at #7, and it's the least brilliant of the series, but still extremely entertaining and engaging.

I'm surprised Two Towers made it as well, thought the other (superior) two would eat up any votes it would get. Out of interest, whoever voted for it- did you vote for the other LoTR entries as well?

Inception, meh. Should be lower, glad wasn't higher. I like your write up Thursday. I feel it shows his standing as a filmmaker, technically brilliant but doesn't have that imagination to elevate it to the brilliance of something like Mulholland Drive.

Anyway, I love Inception. The first time I saw it -- it went over my head -- and I didn't care for it. Then I watched it for a second time and it really affected me. Definitely deserves to be on this list. Absolutely.

It was the worst of the three, it seems even amongst the majority of those who like it, but honestly, it's not as if the others were hugely better. The only thing this had over the last one is that it didn't have 25 endings. But then, it did have trees that walked and talked.

I watched them in 2008/2009, and I Remember them being boring, but fascinating. I might rewatch the series
Oh, they are. Really. :yup: I've no idea where you got fascinating from.

No they shouldn't. They're three seperate films.

Still haven't seen LOTR :o

I have only seen the first one - The Fellowship of the Ring. I put it on my list.

I liked it, but, yeah, it was very long and boring. I actually saw it last November for the first time and I made a point to watch the next two - cause I own them - but, I still haven't watched them. Although, since most people hate the second one, now I think more than ever that I might like it -- I tend to like what others hate.

Most people? 88 from Metacritic and 8.7 from IMDB. Doesn't really mean anything but shows massive approval.
