Ok everyone's seen the last two, that's what matters. Yoda can you delete them before SC signs on?
Ha! Or switch them round. Or replace them with The King's Speech and Inglourious Basterds and tell him Brodinski made a mistake with the counting.
Damn.
Yeah, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a very personal, special film for me, so obviously I was hoping it would take the cake. But I believe The Fellowship of the Ring is the finest fantasy film ever made and I pretty much grew up watching every fantasy/adventure film I could get my hands on, so... it's a worthy winner.
Here was my list. Just as I predicted, I finished with 19 of my 25 films on the Top 100, including my entire Top 12. :D
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
2. The Wrestler
3. Good Night, and Good Luck.
4. Sideways
5. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
6. Crash
7. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
8. Solaris
9. Signs
10. Zodiac
11. Juno
12. Road to Perdition
13. The New World

My predictions for the last six:
1.) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2.) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3.) The Dark Knight
4.) Mulholland Drive
5.) There Will Be Blood
6.) City of God
Let me just say this: The next time you guys are about to tell me that I can't think, that I don't know what I'm saying about something, that my thinking is flawed or crazy or stupid and amounts to nothing... REMEMBER THIS... that thinking machine I have in my head guessed the last six MoFo Millenium Top 100 movies in order. That thinking machine in my head saw Fellowship of the Ring beating Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind when everyone else said it wasn't going to happen. It was all something I THOUGHT about, but I also felt it strongly in my gut. I almost wanted to change this list around, thus writing an incorrect list, but something told me, NO, go with your feelings. And here we are.

Will this become one of the profile checklists?
Miss Vicky
01-21-13, 06:43 PM
Yes.
Definitely. Probably this week. :)
Well now that the list is complete here's how I did and some thoughts. I think the list is a really nice mix, and a decent portrayal of this century in film so far. We've had large blockbusters (Pirates of the Caribbean, Inception etc) and superheroes (Iron Man, Spider-Man 2 etc), side by side with small little indies (Hedwig, Once, Lars and the Real Girl) and a touch of the art house (Werckmeister Harmonies, Dancer in the Dark, Tree of Life). There was also a decent showing for foreign language flicks (15 in total I believe). And while many of the films could have been predicated ahead of the list being published there were also a large number of surprises such as Brotherhood of the Wolf. One of the very few things lacking however was any trace of documentaries, a bit of a surprise I'd say with the likes of Bowling for Columbine, Man on Wire, King of Kong, Murderball etc all eligible.
Even though none of their films cracked the top 10, one of the list's biggest winners was undoubtedly Pixar who were represented by 7 films (Monsters Inc, Up, Wall-e, Toy Story 3, Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille). Indeed only two Pixar films that were eligible missed out, Cars and Cars 2. As for the most successful directors featured on the list, with 3 films we have David Fincher (Zodiac, Social Network, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and the Coen brothers (O Brother Where Art Thou?, True Grit, No Country for Old Men). With a total of four films are Peter Jackson (King Kong, Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Black Swan). But out front with 5 films and the undoubted winner is Christopher Nolan, especially as all 5 featured in the top 51 (Batman Begins, The Prestige, Inception, Memento, Dark Knight). At the opposite end of the spectrum however is Steven Spielberg. While he may still be a big name in the world of film he failed to feature with even a single film.
Of the 100 films listed I personally have seen 69. And of those 69 a rather impressive 17 were on my list. Speaking of which here is the complete list that I sent in. I was particularly surprised and disappointed about the lack of 500 Days of Summer, Bourne Ultimatum and Anchorman. Those that didn't make the list are highlighted.
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Wall-e
Donnie Darko
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Hero
Toy Story 3
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
500 Days of Summer
Amelie
Bourne Ultimatum
Cast Away
Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl
Iron Man
Zoolander
Finding Nemo
Spider-Man 2
Lars and the Real Girl
The King's Speech
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Pan's Labyrinth
Anchorman
Monsters Inc
The King of Kong
Remember the Titans
Other honourable mentions (and some very personal favourites) which did not appear -
Collateral, Garden State, Save the Green Planet, Serenity, District 9, Minority Report, Ocean's Eleven, Shrek, Team America, Bruce Almighty, I Robot, Enchanted, Evolution, Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, School of Rock, Catch Me If You Can, Bowling for Columbine, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, TMNT
And then just because I can :D here are links to films on the list that I have reviewed.

The Lord of the Rings:
The Fellowship of the Ring
(2001, Jackson)
335 points
Indeed, the Lord of the Rings is the second best epic fantasy film I ever watched. Though, the first best is (incredibly) much better.
Overall, I would say that The Lord of the Rings were the best movies I ever had the chance of watching at the theater.

My List: 22/25
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
A brilliantly, beautiful and depressing love story that trumps any other. I love this film to death and can watch it whenever it is on, which is a surprise considering the subject matter. My favourite Jim Carrey performance, which trumps his comedy and Kate Winslet is adorable.
2. Memento
I love Christopher Nolan and am glad to say that I've been a fan of his before his Batman fandom. Memento is a brilliantly constructed film which serves purpose to the story. People complain that this film is watch it once and a second time is ruined type deal. Not for me, I find little joys in repeated viewings.
3. Amelie
A feel good film that has precise attention to detail. A lovely film that captured me from the opening images and without a doubt one of my favourite foreign films of all time.
4. City of God
I was awe struck when I first saw this. A few scenes had me literally on the edge of my seat gripping the arm rest. Devastating, emotional and gritty. Everyone should see this at least once.
5. Fellowship of the Ring
My favourite of the LOTR trilogy. It sets everything up beautifully, made me a fan from the start and despite lacking the giant battles of the last two, for me is probably the most entertaining. Peter Jackson nailed it.
6. The Royale Tenenbaums
I hate Rushmore with a passion, but am in love with this film. Another one where I can watch it whenever and Anderson's style fits perfectly with the story. Everyone involved is great in their roles and this film introduced me to my favourite musical artist of all time, Elliott Smith.
7. The Pianist
Forget Schindler's List, this is the most horrifying depiction of the Holocaust. Such a fight for survival and a riveting performance from Brody. It's depressingly emotional and full of dozens of scenes that I could pick out that stay with you after the film is over.
8. Children of Men
I posted a trailer for this film here at mofo before it was released and no one seemed interested. Boy were they wrong, this film is beautifully constructed with great long shots. A plot line that immediately grabs your interest and a keen eye behind the lens.
9. The Dark Knight
What else can be said about The Dark Knight? Nolan recreated a comic book character who has been kicked down into the dirt and with The Dark Knight gave us one of the best films ever made for this generation.
10. Inception
3 films from Nolan made my list, which tells me he is my favourite director from this millenium. I love Inception, I love the concept, the execution and even the over used brang which is in every trailer these days.
11. Up
12. Wall-E
Pixar's UP and Wall-E are back to back entries for me that can be interchangeable at any time. Who knew a story about an old man and a mute robot could appeal to so many people. It's out of the box story telling which appeal to both young and old that make these films so great.
13. Sin City
Adult graphic novel story telling at its finest. Gorgeous to look at, engaging noir stories and characters that pop out of the screen.
14. Shaun of the Dead
The first film on my list that did not make the cut. Kinda surprised, expected it to be in the 80-90 range. Hilarious blend of horror and comedy and introducing North Americans to the talents of Frost, Penn and Wright.
15. The Departed
A film where Mark Walhberg gives a great performance, who knew? Despite being a remake, it's a remake done right. Martin Scorsese is a master of his craft and this film finally gave him the much deserved Oscar.
16. Zodiac
Even though it runs a bit long, Zodiac, along with The Game is one of Fincher's more underrated films. A tense story about real life murders. Fincher's dark and bleak style serves the story perfectly.
17. Oldboy
My jaw was on the floor from the sick and twisted story we are served in this revenge thriller. Amazing performance from the lead and of course that one great hallway fight sequence, all in one shot.
18. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Another one from my list that did not make it. I love it so much because of how much of a surprise it was to me. Throw in my love for Val Kilmer (he needs to do better work than direct to video) and the now insanely popular Robert Downey Jr and you have amazing chemistry in a witty script by Shane Black.
19. Almost Famous
Hold me closer Tiny Dancer. Please watch the theatrical cut, as the director's cut is too long. Great music, great sequences and a great story.
20. There Will Be Blood
The first 20 minutes, no one says a word, but so much is told. Beautifully filmed, off-putting yet interesting music and an out of this world performance from Daniel Day Lewis.
21. Hot Fuzz
Another Wright picture that did not make the cut. I love Hot Fuzz, the amount of attention to detail is astounding. The 3rd act is insanely fun.
22. American Psycho
Christian Bale's best performance is of a cold blooded, cocaine snorting, psychopath. Patrick Bateman, despite being a complete sicko is engaging on the screen. The 80's yuppie style and dark humour makes this a fun film for me.
23. The Social Network
Who knew that a film about FACEBOOK could be so good? I for sure didn't, but The Social Network made my best of list when it came out and I downloaded the soundtrack from Trent Reznor. A great story about lost friendship in the grand scheme of betrayal and greed.
24. Donnie Darko
A kid sees a giant rabbit who tells him the world is going to end. Trippy. Richard Kelly doesn't even know everything about the film he did. He's had two poor films after this now emo-loved picture, but nothing he's done is as good.
25. Requiem For A Dream
A film that is shown to drug addict that have made them quit cold turkey. It's gritty, dark and intense, just how I like em.

21. The Departed (2006)

24. A History Of Violence (2005)
25. Austin Powers In Goldmember (2002)
* Can't exactly remember if Assassination made it.
20 from my list made it, and the five that missed the cut I'm not surprised (they're not exactly considered among the best films of their year, let alone the decade). I'm glad my #1 made #1; Fellowship is a fantastic film, breathtaking visually and emotionally, among the best fantasy films ever made.

Seeing people's lists I am really surprised that Shaun of the Dead didn't make it, definitely one of my favourite films since 2000, I'm guessing it's because most people would of included it around the 15-25 range.
And about animations... shame on you guys for not getting Chicken Run or Rango on the list :p

So using SCs list of films I've worked out that I've seen 43 of them, a view of them I have recorded and ready to watch as well (Gangs of New York, Traffic etc.). I try to be generous and give ratings relative more to other films so it's not so hard to get 5* if I really love a film, before you guys start moaning :p

Anyways, here were my picks. The bolded made it.
1. Man on Fire
2. Mystic River
3. Million Dollar Baby
4. Gone Baby Gone
5. Gran Torino
6. A Beautiful Mind
7. Inside Man
8. Crash
9. V for Vendetta
10. The Dark Knight
11. State of Play
12. The Departed
13. Iron Man
14. Deja Vu
15. Finding Nemo
16. The Prestige
17. The Descendants
18. Pursuit of Happyness
19. American Gangster
20. Inception
21. Casino Royale
22. The Hangover
23. Up
24. No Country for Old Men
25. Wall E
Only 14/25 for me, but my list would look infinitely different now. While I like every movie on that list, I do have to admit I screwed up some of the rankings on them. This is what mine would look like today:
1. Man on Fire
2. Mystic River
3. Gone Baby Gone
4. Million Dollar Baby
5. Wedding Crashers
6. Gran Torino
7. A Beautiful Mind
8. Spirited Away
9. Lost in Translation
10. The Departed
11. The Dark Knight
12. The Prestige
13. Crash
14. V for Vendetta
15. Inside Man
16. Finding Nemo
17. 21 Grams
18. Iron Man
19. Inception
20. Up
21. No Country for Old Men
22. The Descendants
23. Wall E
24. Gladiator
25. State of Play
I realize Wedding Crashers, State of Play, Inside Man, and The Descendants have no chance at all but at least my list is unique. Spirited Away, Lost in Translation, and 21 Grams were all seen post-submission of the list.

Ohhhh. So you ended up not getting the most films right, afterall.

My list 1-25, entries in bold
Oldboy
Mulholland drive
Dancer in the dark
Four lions
Disappointing at lack of comedy in general on this list, would imagine a wider US release here would prompt more votes, hopefully. Funniest film since Airplane plus cutting satire. Chris Morris remains local hero, alas
Amelie
Assassination of jesse james
The fountain
A history of violence
Lives of others
Hidden
Wonder if Amour and Oscar nominations will prompt people to go through Haneke's back catalogue but this is a very intelligent look at nationality, identity and many other issues that needs more acknowledgement here
Black Dynamite
Surprised and pleased at this one
Inland Empire
Consider Mulholland and the love it gets, surprised it doesn't extend to this to an extent. Albeit more obtuse, it's a culmination of everything that makes Lynch so Lynchian and great use of digital shooting.
Borat
Shocked at this one, genuinely. I don't remember a comedy or really a film raising this much commentary. Maybe it's the primarily American members here that don't like the mirror being held against them?
Social network
Battle royale
American psycho
A prophet
A real gem that imagine needs wider awareness as can't see any reason this wouldn't make the list. Really should replace The Departed
Pans labyrinth
500 days of summer
Thought JGL was quite a prominent star for mainstream and indie audiences alike these days and this spot-on examination of relationships crumbling, the non-Hollywood way, deserves a place
Miami vice
Guilty pleasure and long shot
Kill bill 2
QTs best film this decade. Capture all his brilliance for dialogue and characters, without succumbing to the need for excessive violence for cheap thrills
Let the right one in
Lilya for ever
Long shot again but a crippling emotional film that hope other will see eventually
[rec]
Horror need some love on this list, which sadly it didn't get. For my money this was the most brutal and sustained horror seen since TCSM with innovative use of found footage and great jumps
Think that's 14. Can dig that.

As for my list omissions:
2. Mystic River- should have honestly made it, though it's hard to say honestly when it truly is a list of everyone's favorites here. But I know there are some MOFO's here whom like the movie that just didn't submit a list (pretty sure Caitlyn is one of them). After all, it made the last top 100 for pete's sake.
6. Beautiful Mind- to a lesser extent this should have made it. But it's kind of died out as being somewhat of a fan favorite, and especially here.
7. Inside Man- I don't think a lot of people have seen this, so that's probably holding it back. It really is a fun watch, but you don't see it on a top 100 list very often.
9. V for Vendetta- I would have to bet this was on the fringe of making the cut.
11. State of Play- Probably a movie that realistically couldn't make a top 500 of the millenium list, but I do love it nonetheless.
14. Deja Vu- More of a guilty pleasure than a gem of a movie, and I believe that persuaded me a bit. Not to mention I am a Denzel homer.
17. The Descendants- a great movie that gets no respect. So I'm not surprised at all.
18. Pursuit of Happyness- While it's a good film and all, I probably should have left it off.
19. American Gangster- perhaps it's the length that turns everyone off....
21. Casino Royale- probably was flavor of the day for me to include it in my top 25, though it easily makes my top 100 of all time.
22. The Hangover- Not many comedies made the list. This probably was close as well.

Overall, I would say that I would take Spirited Away over the other 70 films, combined! But that's just my hardcore Miyazaki bias. :D
Considering American movies I think that this list is very good: the best American movie of the decade, The Lord of the Rings, was the first place and all my US favorites from the decade were there as well as the more famous foreign language movies (such as The Lives of Others, Spirited Away, etc).

Hmm, I haven't seen either of the top two films... I should probably do that...
Anyways, my list, though I think I've posted it before. Had I seen them in time Inland Empire would be #2 and Almost Famous would be #10. I'd probably switch around some of the rankings, too.

Just watched Fincher's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I liked it but I don't know that it's something I'd be really keen on watching again anytime soon and it definitely would not have made my list had I seen it sooner.

I'm glad that LOTR won.I think it's better than Eternal both subjectively and objectively.
My predictions for the 90s:
1. Pulp Fiction
2. Goodfellas
and the rest of the top 10:
The Matrix
Magnolia
Fight Club
American Beauty
Reservoir Dogs
Saving Private Ryan
The Shawshank Redemption
Forrest Gump

You might prefer LOTR but there's no way you can objectively compare them. One is a mind-bendy, deeply romantic, 100-minute drama, the other is a 3-hour end-of-the-world fantasy. With talking trees.

You might prefer LOTR but there's no way you can objectively compare them.
even if their genres are different,LOTR stays one of the best fantasy films of all time.In AFI's "10 Top 10: Fantasy" list LOTR came up second. And based on IMDB rating and AFI's poll,I strongly believe that LOTR can be considered one of the best fantasy films ever. Now could you say that Eternal Sunshine is one of the best drama/romance films?Ok,maybe the competition is bigger in drama category than in fantasy but, honestly,I don't think that Eternal would crack the top 10.
Also,I think that LOTR made a much bigger impact on the cinema industry overall.

Their inclusions or exclusions from lists are just based on more subjective opinions. If they were of the same genre you could, to a limited extent, compare the technical elements but only vaguely since their quality is mostly subjective too.
Also,I think that LOTR made a much bigger impact on the cinema industry overall.
Sure, but that doesn't mean the film is any better. It only means that it might have made more money or bigger technical advances, which LOTR did. But Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind didn't try to do either of those things.

Here's my top 25 as of about a year ago. Not all of these would have made the list if I re-constructed it today but this seems a fair snapshot of what I really liked from the last bakers'-dozen years. (ranked from best to slightly-less-than-best)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Sunshine
2046
King Kong
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
The Claim
The Prestige
Nightwatching
No Such Thing
Mysteries of Lisbon
Femme Fatale
Ratatouille
Time and Tide
The New World
I Am Love
The Lives of Others
Zodiac
Children of Men
Hamlet (2000)
Shanghai Knights
Death Defying Acts
Hulk (2003)
The Princess and the Warrior
Sex and Lucia
The Saddest Music in the World
I guess that's 6 for me (not all that surprised, except that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon didn't make it).

then what, according to you,can tell objectively how good a film is?

I didn't submit a list, don't think I was here on time but I did a thread of what would of been in my 25 - Here (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=852378)
This is what was on it:
1: No Country for Old Men
2: Inglourious Basterds
3: Kill Bill (Vol. 2 if I had to pick)
4: Sin City
5: City of God
6: Rango
7: Wall-E
8: Up
9: Pan's Labyrinth
10: A Prophet
11: The Departed
12: Fantastic Mr. Fox
13: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
14: Drive
15: The Social Network
16: Snatch.
17: Chicken Run
18: Memento
19: Inception
20: Monsters, Inc.
21: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish)
22. LOTR (Fellowship)
23: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
24: Mystic River
25: 3:10 to Yuma
So that would of been 15 films, although if I was too submit a list now it would be much different. There Will Be Blood and Mulholland Drive would be in the top 2 spots, LOTR would be closer to the top (hadn't seen it in a while)

MoFo Millenium Top 100: TRIVIA
This countdown was completed as the Oscars draw near. So, I decided it'd be cool if I took a look at the rankings of the previous Best Picture Oscar winners:
2000 Gladiator - 47points
2001 A Beautiful Mind - 21 points
2002 Chicago - 0 points
2003 LOTR: ROTK - 155 points
2004 Million Dollar Baby - 57points
2005 Crash - 63 points
2006 The Departed - 161 points
2007 No Country For Old Men - 178points
2008 Slumdog Millionaire - 11 points
2009 The Hurt Locker - 27 points
2010 The King's Speech - 73 points
2011 The Artist - 41 points
Chicago, A Beautiful Mind, Slumdog Millionaire and The Hurt Locker missed out. Much to my enjoyment, Chicago got a grand total of 0 points.
It's clear what the MoFo's favourites are, as they're way ahead of the pack: No Country for Old Men, The Departed and LOTR: ROTK.

Glad to see Fellowship at No.1, and it wasn't even close.
Thanks Brod for all the hard work putting this thread together (even if the finale was ala reality TV, "and the winner is......................3 days later).
BTW did you ever reveal what the 101 film was? I think you did but I'm not sure. Also have you posted you ownlist yet Brod?
My own list (can't remember exact order);
12/25
1. Fellowship of the Ring
2. Master and Commander
3. Bourne Supremacy
4. The Dark Knight
5. Zatoichi
6. Bourne Identity
7. Good Night and Good Luck
8. The Aviator
9. Stander
10. Batman Begins
11. American Psycho
12. LOTR: The Two Towers
13. Kingdom of Heaven
14. Road to Perdition
15. Motorcycle Diaries
16. The Prestige
17. City of God
18. Syriana
19. Sexy Beast
20. Napoleon Dynamite
21. The Hurt Locker
22. Shaun of the Dead
23. Sin City
24. Kung Fu Hustle
25. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Out of those the films I think I'm most surprised about "The Hurt Locker" not making it, aswell as probably "Syriana". Even though I didn't vote for it I'm quite surprised that "Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum" didn't make the list. Not enough mofo appreciation for Bourne imo.
If I had to choose a film that didn't make it that I personally would have liked to see make the list it would be "Napoleon Dynamite", made for only $300,000 or so, I find it totally hilarious, way funnier than any other American Pie type highschool comedy. Just about the greatest character of the 21st century imo and great supporting characters too.
What I would change on my list would most likely be "Drive", I think I just forgot to include it tbh, and perhaps "Mulholland Drive"(just watched a few days ago) after another viewing or 2, I think "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" would get a higher place, it's a movie that I just can't stop watching.
Well done to Sexy Celeb for guessing the last 6, lets see if you can win the Oscar predictions too?;)

I wonder if the 101st movie is Little Miss Sunshine. It seems like it had to come close to making it.
Just realised another film I'm surprised missed out - Casino Royale. Not a fan of it myself though so not too bothered but I know quite a number of people on here seem to love it.

I think The Hurt Locker is head and shoulders above every other Best Picture of the millennium so far, with Slumdog Millionaire probably second, so a little surprised they both missed out.

Two made my list, The Kings Speech and Million Dollar Baby . Havent seen Chicago but not all to shocked it got 0 points. Very pleased that Slumdog Millionaire and Hurt Locker didn't make it since they're both oscar robberies.
I like Chicago, but I wouldn't have put it on my list.

Well done to Sexy Celeb for guessing the last 6, lets see if you can win the Oscar predictions too?;)
I dunno about that. My trick that worked in guessing the last six movies was just thinking about which movies would be the most popular with the most amount of people. I am a person who is in touch with what's popular with the majority. City of God is a movie I haven't seen and don't know much about at all, so I said, it's gotta be #6. There Will Be Blood is another one I haven't seen, though I have seen the DVD in stores and have been tempted to buy it, but still didn't. I knew it was #5. Mulholland Drive was David Lynch and very popular around here when it came out, but I knew it was still too obscure to take the top spot, and it definitely wasn't gonna beat The Dark Knight. I knew it was #4.
The Dark Knight - I knew it was going to be high. But I doubted it would be #1, just because this is Movie Forums. I came close to taking a risk and saying it might be #1, but I'm glad I didn't. I put it at #3 because I saw everyone else putting Eternal Sunshine at #1 and I figured Fellowship of the Ring would be more popular around here.
I never sensed that Eternal Sunshine would win this. Only at the very end, right before the last two were revealed, did I get scared ~ but like I said, that was anxiety. I thought more people loved Fellowship of the Ring and knew it better than Eternal Sunshine ~ which, if I remember correctly, did not even do well at the movies when it came out. How could a powerhouse like Fellowship lose to Eternal Sunshine? Everyone assumed that it couldn't be #1 because it would be boring - we had already seen Two Towers and Return of the King make it on the list - so people wrote off Fellowship winning because nobody wanted to see part 1 of that trilogy winning it all. But I said... "that don't mean s**t!" If it's gonna win, it's GONNA WIN!
Also, awhile back, Brodinski made a comment that made it seem like the list wasn't going to turn out to be so good. To him, at least. That was a big clue with me that the #1 movie was going to be disappointing. So, I thought it was either going to be Fellowship or The Dark Knight and I went with Fellowship because it seemed to be the most likely of the two.
PAY ATTENTION to everything instead of living in your own worlds and you too can be a grand master of intuition and psychic skill.

To my eternal shame, this is true. To think I could have spent that 3 minutes doing something more productive, like staring at my wall.

To be fair, so did I a couple of times. Mostly because of the sheer absurdity. Sexy, if you can predict the entire 90s countdown, in order, including the scores for each film, then we'll admit you're psychic and then you can have a documentary. :p

"Cool off period?" Huh? Cool off from what? The person who is going to run it start a thread, set the deadline for list entries as say July 1st (which is more than enough time) and let the lists come in. The countdown will end roughly the same time this one did. It's not like we're getting any younger here, people. If someone doesn't start it within a week then I will.

Jake Gyllenhaal will play Brodinski, who reveals the movies in the countdown. We will have a love affair and a scandal will break out near the end saying that Brodinski fixed the countdown so that my prediction would come true. There will be a court case and everything - Whoopi Goldberg will play the judge. She will be caught in a compromising position with Honeykid. This will force her to find Brodinski innocent, but Yoda will do some calculations on his own and determine that Brodinski never cheated anyway.
David Fincher is in talks for directing.

While most people seem to be on board with the 90s list, another possible idea for a future list could be a top 50/100 animated films. Most forumers don't know many animated films. I won't be an interesting idea. For example, you only cited Ghibli from Japan, but Ghibli only produced about 2% of all the full length animated films made in Japan.
Considering the level of ignorance relative to European and Japanese animation here the ranking would be ludicrous. A general film a ranking with 85% US films is not that ludicrous because the US is the single largest producer of great films, but imagine a top 100 animated films ranking with 80% of US animation? At the 98th position you will see stuff like Shark Tale side by side with Ghost in the Shell. :o
That would be like having a top 100 film raking beginning like this:
98th: Rashomon
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vwD4wBr2PUI/TWXs_ZNEzAI/AAAAAAAADfU/SP1m81Ug7l0/s1600/rashomon_sp2.jpg
side by side with:
97th Twilight. :D
http://cf.drafthouse.com/_uploads/galleries/25571/twilight-marathon-poster.jpg
What proportion of the forumers here watched over 50 full length animated features made in Japan (and in japanese)? Maybe 1%? To give an informed opinion about a subject you need to know the subject.
I would expect about 80-90% of the list would consists of US made flicks (and Up would win, Wall-E in second, which are the two best US animated films). It would be better to make a top 50 US animated films list, since most people here have a good knowledge of US animation: I generally agree that the best US animations are Pixar's, but IMO they are far from being among the best in the world.
Try do to the same thing in a Japanese language forum. Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks will not even register. And in Japan people know Disney/Pixar to a much greater degree than the people in the English speaking world know anime.
In Japan in 2008, a TV network made a poll relative to animated series: the top 100 animated series. Do you know how many non-Japanese series made the list? One.
A top of the 90's list would be a much better idea than a top animated films list.
I vote for Harry Lime to run this 90's thing.
I second this.

To me the only thing this proves is that people tend to favor things produced in their own countries and in their own languages and is not reflective of superior taste. Frankly I'm getting damn tired of your elitist rants about how Anime is so superior to American animation and about how ignorant all the rest of us are because we don't all agree with you.
Also, I'd venture to guess that if we were to do a Top Animated Films list, the original Toy Story would come out on top.
In general film a ranking with 85% US films is not that ludicrous because the US is the single largest producer of great films, but imagine a top 100 animated films ranking with 80% of US animation? At the 98th position you will see stuff like Shark Tale side by side with 5 Centimeters per Second. Absurd. That would be like Rashomon side by side with Twilight. :D
It would be better to make a top 50 US animated films list, since most people here have a good knowledge of US animation.
Wow you're rather cynical and downbeat on the people of the forum aren't you? I only cited Ghibli alone as they are the best known studio and would be the one from Japan really challenging Pixar and Disney. I also didn't mention other US studios like Blue Sky, Sony Animation, Illumination Entertainment or the British studio Aardman.
And on this forum I would like to think foreign animated films would be well represented. Alongside some of the Ghibli favourites (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Totoro) I would hope/expect to see the likes of Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Millennium Actress, Tekkoninkreet, Waltz with Bashir, Persepolis, Illusionist, My Dog Tulip, Triplets of Belleville etc
And I wasn't saying it would be a better idea than a 90s list, just another suggestion for a list in the future

To me the only thing this proves is that people tend to favor things produced in their own countries and in their own
languages
That was my point. :p
But film buffs should be able to transcend a little these boundaries to get a full appreciation of global cinema.
and is not reflective of superior taste.
That never was my intention. :) My point was that in this case a top 50-100 raking would be ludicrous.
Frankly I'm getting damn tired of your elitist rants about how Anime is so superior to American animation
So don't pay attention. :p I am only explaining how I feel about the subject. The fact is I feel that US animation is really severely restricted in its artistic spectrum and thus cannot compete with the output of the rest of the world.
and about how ignorant all the rest of us are because we don't all agree with you.
There isn't any disagreement when there is ignorance. How can you say that you like a song more than another when you have listened to only one?
Also, I'd venture to guess that if we were to do a Top Animated Films list, the original Toy Story would come out on top.
That's not too bad. Up is better though.

Say the names of 50 good US full length animated films. By the time you reach the 45th place you will have reached the bottom of the barrel.
Pixar made about 10 good animation movies (in the 2002-2012 period they made 5-6 good movies), Dreamworks made 3-4, Disney, perhaps about 6-7. In total, I would say that there have been about two dozen actually good animated features made in the US over the last 80 years. Relative to Japan my knowledge is much more limited in proportion to output but I have watched at least 50 good anime movies, though it is also true that masterpieces are rare: most anime movies are crap.
Overall, Miyazaki and Takahata remain the only two great directors of animated feature films who ever lived: Their best work makes everything else in the field appear utterly insignificant. My Neighbor Totoro alone is a greater film than all animated films that I ever watched made outside of the Miyazaki/Takahata duo combined. I would rather watch My Neighbor Totoro 50 times than watch the top 50 best US animations by IMDB ratings or watch the top 50 non-Ghibli anime films by IMDB ratings.
Imagine a top 100 animation, with 80-90 US animations? Happy Feet 2 would be in the middle of the list.
Miss Vicky

Yes, because American animation begins and ends with Pixar, Disney, and Dreamworks. And you call the rest of us ignorant.
I'd be for keeping an animation list to 50. I think pretty much any other list from here on out other than a 90s list would probably do well to stick with 50, otherwise participation'll be even trickier and some crazy stuff'll get on there with just a couple of votes, I'm sure.

Watched Hedwig again. I liked it a lot better this time. Almost loved it, actually.
It's got some fantastic original tunes, the costuming and makeup are spectacular and the film itself is a really nice mix of the humorous and the tragic. But there was one particular area where I found it pretty lacking: Substance. Sure it was funny and entertaining and beautiful, but take away the songs and there isn't a whole lot left. I would've liked to see more character development (beyond Hedwig herself) and more exploration of Hedwig's relationships, particularly with Yitzak.
I don't know that it would've made my list had I seen it in time for voting, but I've every intention of adding it my collection.

MoFo Millenium Top 100: TRIVIA
Decided to take a look at the best-scoring years in our countdown:
2000: 14 films, Memento being the highest (# 17) and the only one in the top 20.
2001: 10 films, LOTR: FOTR being the highest (# 1). No less than 4 films were represented in the top 20: LOTR: FOTR, Mulholland Drive, Amélie, and Donnie Darko.
2002: 12 films, City of God being the highest ranked at # 6 and the only film in the top 20.
2003: 8 films, Lost in Translation being the highest (# 7). Two more were ranked in the top 20, namely LOTR: ROTK, and Oldboy.
2004: also 8 films, ESotSM being the sole representative in the top 20, at # 2.
2005: Another year with 8 films in total. Zero films in the top 20 though: A History of Violence is the highest ranked at # 40.
2006: 7 films ranked, but three of those in the top 20 with Children of Men (# 11) being the highest ranked, alongside The Departed (# 12) and Pan's Labyrinth (# 18). The Fountain, The Prestige, and The Lives of Others are also ranked in the top 50. So although there aren't that many films on the Top 100, the ones that are ranked are very well liked.
2007: 10 films, with There Will Be Blood (# 5) being the highest ranking. There are two more in the top 20: No Country for Old Men and Zodiac. Bit of a surprise here, as I know that lots of people (including me) feel that 2007 is the best year of the new millenium so far.
2008: 7 films, The Dark Knight taking top 3 honors (# 3).
2009: Only 4 films ranked, Inglourious Basterds (# 8) being the highest, and Up being anoother 2009-released film in the top 20.
2010: 5 films in the top 100. The Social Network is the highest ranking at # 22.
2011: 7 films; Black Swan being the best of the 2011 class at # 25.
2000 is the best of the punch with a whopping 14 films ranked, followed by 2002 (12). 2001 and 2007 share 3rd place with both having 10 films ranked. 2001 have the biggest number of films in the top 20 with 4. The weakest years are very clear: 2009 and 2010. Combined, the 2 years don't have as many films ranked as the three best represented years on the MoFo Millenium Top 100.
In that case well represented for me would be at least 2/3 foreign (in fact, I had done a top 50 animated films list, it had about 8-9 North American films, 35 Japanese and half a dozen European films, I try to be always open to any style but the fact is that when I watched Paprika and The Secret of NIMH on the same day a rather obvious difference emerged). Oh come on are you serious? First of all to expect 2/3 of the list to be foreign is rather optimistic to say the least. And some of those examples you gave are ridiculous. You could quite easily have a top 50 without a single anime there and you'd still have a lot of quality. Pixar would easily contribute 10 films as you say with other computer animated studios possibly contributing 15-20 I would say, and it's not just Dreamworks. The likes of Rango, Horton Hears a Who, Ice Age, Tangled, Bolt, Wreck It Ralph, Monsters House, Beowulf, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Adventures of Tintin, Surf's Up, Rio, Despicable Me, TMNT etc which are all popular and capable of picking up votes. And surely you're vastly underrating the output of Disney over the decades.
And even outside of Disney, Dreamworks and Pixar there are lots of other available films such as some of the strong Batman animated films, Iron Giant, Scanner Darkly, South Park etc. Films like Ferngully, An American Tail, Brave Little Toaster would likely get some love with many people on her having grown up with them. Then you've got the stop motion side of things with the likes of Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas, Mary and Max, James and Giant Peach, Coraline, Fantastic Mr Fox, Frankenweenie, Paranorman, Team America etc. And then you've got films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit? which may or may not qualify. And there's still some British efforts before you even get to non-English language films; films from the Aardman as well as When The Wind Blows, Watership Down, Yellow Submarine, Wind in the Willows etc
Fair enough you seem to have a lot of love for anime (it's good you have something you're so passion about) and clearly see it as superior to anything else, but I'd say you're being rather dismissive of a lot of films and people who love them. Even your suggestion at the end feels a bit flippant as if we can have a list for all the silly little American films, and a separte list for the complex films of Japan. There seems to be this belief a lot of people have that if a film tries to be deep, complex and arty it immediately becomes better than a piece of pure entertainment. I've seen some complex films which were pretentious snoozefests, while the most purely entertaining, mainstream films are just teeming with creativity and wit.
Great work Brodinski. When I was posting info about the list in terms of genres, directors etc I considered going year by year but couldn't be bothered!
Slightly surprised to see that the first few years are better represented than anything else. Especially with people predicting at the start the more recent years would do well with the films fresh in people's minds. And with people using the reasoning of recent release to explain some picks like King's Speech.
Out of interest which films that have been released since the cut-off point do we think could have featured?

Would make are list. Truly you act like you're the only cinephile on this site, and while maybe not me, but there a lot of people who've seen more movies. And the people who are "ignorant" (as you'd put it) to Foriegn films are highly outnumbered by people who love foriegns. On an animated list I wouldnt be shocked Spirited Away cracked the top 5. Akira would probably be in there, and Totoro. Also maybe that Nauscia movie or whatever. If it was a top 50 I think about 15 would be non American.

A top 100 Japanese movies poll
So Yoda can add this list as well? It would have very interesting stuff.
I can start the thread right now. :)
Japan has produced almost as many films as the US over the last 100 years. They have made about 30,000 - 40,000 films (comparing with 1,500 animated features made in the last 80 years and to 6,000 films made in the US during the 1990's). There is significantly more material for a poll of top Japanese films than a 90's poll.

No way. Japan is one of the top three countries in cinema:
USA
France
Japan
Korea is about 5% of Japan in terms of cinema, being generous :p. Japan scored 4 movies out of the top 26 films in the British Film Institute poll. The US scored 8 films.
See:
http://explore.bfi.org.uk/sightandsoundpolls/2012/critics
Out of the top 26 films we had:
USA - 8 films
France - 6 films
Italy - 1.5 (another half was French) films
Japan - 4 films
Russia - 3 films
Sweden - 1.5 (another half was French) films
Japan is a superpower of cinema. :p
Some have even said that Japanese cinema was equal to the US and France combined. The more Japanese films I watch, the more I seem to agree.

If you want to keep bringing statistics into this (besides the fact that one can utilize them purely for one's own purpose), then it would be legitimate to do a top 100 list given that each user participating has seen about a minimum of 500-750 foreign films, since 100 of those would be the upper echelons, and a 1/5 or 1/3 fraction of quality compared to total films seen is the only fair way to establish a definitive list.

Well, one always has a huge quantity of films to watch: the average film critic has watched less than 5% of all films ever made (and even if he watches only US films, he would have watched less than 20% of all US films ever made).
By that way of thinking nobody can vote in any list, except a very restricted one (like US films made in the 1990's).
It would be cool a top 100 foreign films. Seven Samurai would be number one.

Well, one has to vote on only 25 films. So one has to have watched only about 75 to 125 foreign language films. I think most members have watched over 100 foreign language films.

I see nothing wrong with putting down favorites that you like for nostalgic reasons. They're good for that reason! What is all of this bull**** nonsense about - "You can't put down movies until you've seen everything. Make it an EDUCATED list." BULL****! I'm gonna put down what I want. I ain't going to some cinema college just to write down 25 movies I like. This is pretentious nonsense drivel spouted off by bologna makers like Wintertriangles.
Don't struggle with your lists! Go with your freakin' heart. Go with what you've already seen. You like certain movies for years and years FOR A REASON. You might like something you see now, but it may not even stick with you long. GO WITH YOUR FEELINGS! Your feelings are always more right. That's why I guessed the Top 6 of the last countdown right.

According to Leos Carax, all of them are:
“Hello, I’m Leos Carax, director of foreign-language films. I’ve been making foreign-language films my whole life. Foreign-language films are made all over the world, of course, except in America. In America, they only make non-foreign-language films. Foreign-language films are very hard to make, obviously, because you have to invent a foreign language instead of using the usual language. But the truth is, cinema is a foreign language, a language created for those who need to travel to the other side of life. Good night.”

On this site, I'd bet on Persona topping a foreign film list. Which I would have no problem with. I'd actually be more comfortable with a foreign list than a 90s one- when I attempted to compile a list I saw just how many holes in that decade I have. That being said, I'd much rather do a 70s list than either of the other options mentioned.

Everyone's boasting about how "personal" their lists mean to them, how their choices aren't determined to "please the populous". If that's the case then we should make movies like Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas ineligible, so that the lesser-known movies of the 90s can get their deserved attention. Just admit it - our movie choices are all influenced by what is popular.

That's a bunch of crap.
The movies we choose to watch may be influenced by what is popular or what is respected, but that doesn't mean it influences what we love. I've watched numerous movies because they are popular or well-respected and wound up disliking quite a few (Just from this list: LOTR Trilogy, The Wrestler, Black Swan, No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Iron Man, The Assassination Of Jesse James, The Royal Tenenbaums, Mulholland Drive, Kill Bill, Sin City, Gangs Of New York, The Bourne Identity). On the other hand, as I'm seeing MoFos list off their ratings for the movies that made the Millennium List, I see post after post where the people haven't even seen the film I placed at #1 on my ballot.

It's great that you don't always agree with what is popular (and have a #1 film that isn't widely known), but my point was that if someone only watches popular movies then naturally his favourite movies would also be well-known. I honestly have little interest in the movies that make their way to the top of the overall list, and would rather view each individual's top 25.

Like with Japanese movies... sure, I wouldn't mind a good one that got rave reviews every now and then, but let me be frank -- I don't have a soulful connection with Asian people. Of course. Foreign films are all mindbending and trippy -- like Sonatine and Infernal Affairs, for example, while American films are all straight up gangster movies, like Mulholland Drive and Synechdoche New York.
Wait.
No. No, they're not.
Foreign films are not weird or pretentious just because they happen to be in a different language to your own. Some of them may be experimental, some of them may be dull as ditchwater, but they're no more all the same than Finding Nemo is the same as The Godfather.
They're probably a bit more homogeneous, though, simply because a) the cultures they're made in are more homogeneous than the United States, and b) they generally (and this is a chicken/egg thing, a bit) are made with less specific intent to distribute them among other cultures. So it seems plausible, based on those two things alone, that the differences between them might be a lot subtler and less evident to people outside the culture.

Well, it's not just that their culture is homogenous, but the Japanese trend is to instead of creating a varied body of work, to create a body of very similar work, with some small variation between works. That's why Ozu best represents the Japanese tradition.

I don't think a top 100 of Japanese movies is something many people could contribute to, but perhaps those who have seen a lot could start a thread discussing some of their favourites which could give the rest of us some suggestions to watch.
Some weird changes from this list compared to the Movie Forums Top 100 Films of All Time (http://www.movieforums.com/lists/movie_forums_top_100_2010.html) list: The Departed was 12th on this list, but 7th on that one. Gladiator was 31st on the all-time list but 69th on the millennium list. Both went down despite dramatically narrowing the eligible time frame.
More striking: three post-2000 films were on the all-time list but completely missed the cut on the millennium list. They are In the Mood for Love, which was 62nd, Black Hawk Down, which was 93rd, and Mystic River, which was 99th.
Not a huge deal; tastes change and, more importantly, we probably have a very different cross-section of members voting this time. Still thought it was interesting, though.

Like REAL Asian people, those that live in Asia and not America. I'm not surrounded by Asians. I don't feel of Asia. I find Asia intriguing, but not obsessively, and I feel like people who watch films set in Asia all the time are obsessed in some way.
So the British who watch American films is obsessed with Americana (i.e. American culture?). Also, do you live in LA, because if you don't, you are not connected with the "people" who actually makes the movies you watch.
I began watching films beyond Brazilian and US made films when I "discovered" that people in other countries are also capable of creating art. Since the US has 4.5% of the world's population, the US has only a tiny fraction of the number of potential artists, and hence, of the total supply of art in the world.
Since 95% of everything is thrash, I have already watched most of the top 5% quality American films, but I still haven't explored the top 5% of Japanese or French cinema. Therefore, my priorities currently are in watching only foreign language stuff. That's because there are more unexplored stuff and they also feel fresh: Japanese movies are different from typical Western films and hence feel more fresh: I am tired of the usual hamburger so I began diversifying my died with sushi.
That's how I feel about people who like that anime so much, too.
Anime is pretty much the most accessible type of audiovisual art produced in non-English. It is the easiest type of foreign language stuff for an american to watch, I think.
I have my own obsessions -- things that I feel in touch with thanks to what I've largely been exposed to in my own life. I can't really watch tons of movies set in Asia unless, I guess, I force myself to and then really adjust to it. But I don't really see the point.
If you were born in Brazil you would probably watch only Brazilian soup operas?
Art is universal, people are people everywhere. You don't have to restrict yourself to the stuff produced inside your country's borders. You will only impoverish yourself by doing so.
Is watching foreign films like taking drugs? You know, those out there, experimental things. Are Japanese movies like LSD when you compare them to American films? Are they mind expanding? Should I think of watching foreign films as like eating mushrooms or smoking pot or shooting up with heroin? Exotic and adventurous.

I don't know, but I will have to ponder it more.
Well, I think that Japanese films tend to be more powerful, on average, than American films. Though, in terms of average quality I don't know since I haven't watched enough Japanese films to get an accurate idea of their typical films.
Overall, foreign films are fresh because they tend to be different. Restricting yourself to only US films is like restricting your diet to hamburger and never tryind Arab, French or Japanese cuisine.
Interesting that you mention food, because the cool thing about living in a melting pot is that we borrow traditions from all over the world, be it in food or cinema. I can buy Italian food, or I can watch something by a Mexican filmmaker, from right here in Pennsylvania. That's one of the nice things about art: it's portable, and it's epidemic. Even people who don't watch Japanese cinema are going to run into its influences, especially when so many foreign talents decide to try their hand at creating films produced here.
I'm all for broadening one's taste, but I think the analogies used to make this particular point are a bit of a force fit most of the time. Either way, I think the evangelizing about its virtues is pretty counterproductive, whether right or wrong. Not everyone is on a quest to find the best of every medium at all costs. I daresay the people on a site like this are disproportionately likely to be that type of person, but it's not a prerequisite.

Actually, that depends on the size of the industry you are analyzing. Japan, which has a film industry that is almost comparable to the US in the number of films produced (600-700 for the US, 350-450 for Japan), has a huge diversity in film. In fact, their degree of diversity may be greater than those of the US film industry.
Also, the fact that the US film industry targets the international market tends to reduce its diversity and make its films more homogeneous and less sophisticated, as to please the greatest possible number of cultures.
American blockbusters tend to be all alike one another. In fact, Akira Kurosawa, for example, has produced massive diversity in his portfolio of films and his range exceeds the typical range of Hollywood blockbusters. If you get the top 30 highest grossing films in the US over the last 10 years and compare with the 30 films Kurosawa has done (many among the most popular films in Japan), you will notice in fact less diversity in the American films made by many different directors than the work of a single Japanese director.
Also, in a certain sub-field, animation, the Japanese output has a million times more diversity than US's.
Some have cited Ozu as an example of the lack of diversity in the work of a Japanese director. I can easily reply with Kurosawa (or Miyazaki). :p The only US director which had similar variety of work to Kurosawa would be Kubrick.
And in terms of recent popular directors, Miyazaki certainly has a much greater variety of his body of work than Cameron, Tarantino or Spielberg (though all his work has his personal touch of extreme humanism, the execution can vary greatly).

However, I notice always a certain american flavor in american films. That's something that for an american may not be as easy to notice but it is there and is very apparent for me.
I'm all for broadening one's taste, but I think the analogies used to make this particular point are a bit of a force fit most of the time.
While the US is a melting pot, the various influenced have melted already and produced a certain characteristic flavor.

I am just explaining why I am watching many foreign language films lately. Thanks to the internet for that, since in Brazil we have pretty much only US or Brazilian films at the theater.
I think we had nearly this same discussion before, no? :) And just as before, you're trying to answer a broad, all-else-being-equal statement with a couple of specific examples. All else being equal, films contained within a single culture, and largely made for that culture, are going to be more homogeneous. This doesn't have to be an ironclad law of nature, or without some exceptions, to hold as a general principle.
I'm also quite skeptical of using a couple of hand-picked masters of foreign cinema as illustrative of an entire industry. That selection bias is a huge issue in matters like this. Anyone who lives in America is exposed to enough advertising to be quite aware of films they don't intend to see. They know far more about the mediocre offerings in their own country than overseas. So, unless they've made some significant effort to watch the less heralded work from other countries, just how would they really judge the overall diversity? The uninspired crap is already getting filtered by the ocean between us.
There's also a bit of a problem in referring to diversity as if it were quantifiable, when figuring out how to define it is probably a huge part of the disagreement to begin with.

Well, it's not just that their culture is homogenous, but the Japanese trend is to instead of creating a varied body of work, to create a body of very similar work, with some small variation between works. That's why Ozu best represents the Japanese tradition.
I still have to watch many more Japanese films, but the impression that I get is that Ozu was the one of the great Japanese directors with the least variation in his work.

You've explained it. I think we all very clear at this point.

This may ramble and not be too relevant, sorry, but...
There are plenty of bad and meh films made all over the world. I can't really buy into any argument that one country/culture somehow produces superior movies than another by virtue of being that country/culture.
That said, I do much prefer anime to any other animated style, such as french or american. It's an aesthetic choice, yes, but there also is a greater variety and willingness to push the artform, seems to me.
Yet I'll be the first to admit there's LOTS of crap anime. I just think that when it's done very well, nothing else quite compares IMO.

Just finished Good Night And Good Luck. Solid film. Well crafted and well acted, but my near total disinterest in the subject matter means I probably won't be revisiting it.

I feel the same way. I saw it in theatres and never seen it since, don't need to either.

Same here. I bought it on DVD. Engrossing and well-made but not really a favorite.

Same, but a film that certainly has its worth.
