Wan has stepped out of the horror genre and has had success (Fast Seven), but he loves the genre too much to abandon it.

There's very little character development in the film (especially with Warrens) and too many disjointed horror scenes (like the Crooked Man stuff).

When I originally reviewed James Wan's haunted house classic The Conjuring, I had given it a 9/10 for certain issues pertaining to the focus of the film and character development.
