Funk 'n' Soul song tournament

Tools

The boring stuff

Participants will each have eight nominations initially, this number may increase depending on participation.

A link that does not require sign-up or subscription must be provided to each song (for instance YouTube).

Nominations must be from either the genre of Funk or Soul (duh, who'dathunk eh?) ... only stipulations other than that are the regular ones:
• winners and runners-up of previous Song Tournaments are deemed ineligible ... here's the list
• songs must be less than 10 minutes in duration
Participants are expected to listen to both songs in each match prior to voting.

This tournament will begin strutting it's stuff as soon as enough interest is shown (if enough interest is shown) and all nominations are in.

Not my tournament to lay down the rules but can no one choose Curtis Mayfield's Move On Up cos I think it's the greatest record of all time so there'd be no point in the rest of it

Fine by me christine, I'll do my usual thing of trying to put forward lesser known or perhaps forgotten about tracks anyway.
I won't enforce others not to pick it though - that'll have to be up to them.

Hmmmm, I'll remove that Cymande track from my list of potential noms then

The Stylistics, Delfonics, Dramatics, and anything else that ends in ICS
Will you be gracing us with your presence proper in this @matt72582 or was that just a drive-by participation?

I would, but things come up, and if I say I'll do something, I'll stick with it or I won't say I will.... But I'll be sure to keep my ears open to the music, and thanks.

No worries - you can be the official breaker of ties should they arise if you wish?

I'll play, but you may have to send me reminders to vote.
Not a problem with the new mention feature.

@christine, Betty Lavette, VERY COOL! Always loved "Damn Your Eyes" by her. Saw her in downtown Detroit at the yearly Jazz Festival back in the mid 90's as a closing act during the Festival. Amazing show. Incredible lady.
