Well it's come down to this. One of the two most decorated actors today, and in the past.

Now head to head, which one do you believe is the better actor? Past movies. Current movies. Everything. We've seen both of them perform together in Heat, so take that as an example.

As for me, I go DeNiro the whole 9 yards. The man is far beyond a legend in my book. The movies he's thrown out in the past are astonishing. Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, The Untouchables, Casino, Goodfellas, etc etc.

no contest. definitly DeNiro he has proved himself hundreds of times. even if the movies he is in are bad he still does a good acting job.

Tough one, both have done some phenomenal work, both have also done some terrible dreck.

Call me a fence-sitter but I like them both for different reasons.

Casino being IMO one of the most unappreciated american films gives him a slight edge but its still too close to call.

Ya know, on second thought...

There are so many actors with more range than either. Whatever role they play they seem to just be a shade away from themselves.

John Turturro and Gary Oldman are two actors with far better range and dare I say better "chops" overall.

Not a huge fan of either. If we were to make a cutoff at a certain point around the early nineties or so I'd have said Deniro. These days I'm not gonna go out of my way to see a movie staring either of 'em.

DeNiro by far. Not a big Pacino fan, for the reason Lines stated.

You're so much not a fan that you refuse to even spell his name properly! That'll show him.

What he was great in Glengarry Glen Ross and Dog Day Afternoon.

I'm gonna go with Little Shouty Al as well, purely for the fact that, post-Heat, neither of them have been at their peak but Pacino still seems to have a spark.

I love the guy...

What are their best roles?

For me, DeNiro takes it in my most favoritisit movie EBER, Taxi Driver. The character Travis Bickle was so...sophisticated, dumb, and just plain effin cool all at the same time. Obviously he and I hold the same morals and values, but I think I jump to a higher degree than him. Mentally unstable all right!

Pacino? I loved him in the Godfather and Scarface. Heat was amazing, and Donnie Brasco as well. Though if I have to choose for him, I'd have to go with Tony Montana! He just threw in this amazing accent, got a tan, and fooled the **** out of me the first time I saw the movie. I had no idea it was him, seriously.

"You wanna play rough!!? OKAY!!!" I'll always vote for Pacino. Every time. He's my favorite actor and role model when it comes to acting. Deniro is very good. One of the biggest and one of my faves. (Got a big picture of both of them). But you can't screw with Pacino. Not only did I have a chance to be mentored by someone who acted with him but theres something about his presence alone that makes him get my vote. Those famous eyes of his. And that scruffy hair. They're only a small fraction of what they used to be But I personally think Pacino was a little more talented. Both extremely so lets say he's a little more closer to perfection if you will. Movies he was on- Serpico, Scarface, DogDayAfternoon... I'm not gonna mention Scent because that was just his last stab at getting an Oscar when he already did Oscar worthy material that was much better. Pacino was interesting at the height of his career because he's more of a what-they-call calculated actor. Deniro is more of a Method actor even though both are the sons of Method Acting. Anyway, a calculated actor is a master of the art of hand gestures and body language (along with some charisma). What they do is they put together in their heads the most elaborate but cool gestures and movements they can in a scene (given it fits the character which makes it three times harder) and then practice it so damn much that they can remember and perform it through the scene. This is obviously very hard and laborious because you have to do that in every scene but if you can do it right, after your movies comes out, you feel like you could open your own church. It's just amazing. He got away from that though when he got older and his acting became more simple after his return to movies from a four-year hiatus. They're both very good at hugging the screen but Pacino has that presence to him.
I guess about style why I like Pacino better is also he always tried to dramatize his movie and be passionate about it. Deniro, although talented as hell always had a little humor to him. Pacino is just straight seriousness most of the time like he wants his work to be known to mean something as legitimately as possible. Some people will argue that makes his range smaller but Pacino is a brilliantly talented image actor like Deniro but perhaps with a slightly different goal in mind.

I've lost what I was trying to say so I'll just say this. Pacino had a passion for being a tough guy. That was pretty much who he wanted to play and he wanted to do it better and more passionately than anyone before which I think he accomplished. Deniro like Pacino is also a top drawer tough guy actor but Deniro has passions for other things. I guess you can call Pacino an Eastwood or Bogart actor. The only thing is, in this particular case, the actor is more than incredibly talented but one of the best. So call him a less range actor if that really makes any sense. I think he wanted to beat his Idols which I think he did. Because they're more comparable than Deniro is to them. Deniro is a little more towards a class of his own (so is Pesci). Make of it what you will. But I can't betray those silver screen eyes.
