And guess what? My feelings haven't changed and you didn't get the answers you were looking for. So what was the point?
I did get the answers I was looking for. I don't try to sway opinions when they're based in..well, nothing.

That's really just pretty ignorant. I am really enjoying Mr. Minio's list, not necessarily because we have the same interest in films, but because I like his style. I give my honest feelings about the movies from his list I have seen. You do understand that I saw the movie, right? That would be where my feelings towards it are based from. It's not that hard to understand. You may not like it, but you should accept it, because that's the way it is.

You're taking what I say far too seriously. I accepted your feelings a page ago.
You may be right; I like reading your posts all the time, but I'm just responding to you. I'm still pretty new to Internet forums. I won't have anything else to say on this matter.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
35. Confessions

Incredible Japanese psychological thriller with a lot of twists and really immoral themes. Kids killing kids? That's wrong on so many levels.

34. Olympia

Hands down the best sports documentary I've ever seen. Thanks to unlimited Nazi money it's technically unbeliveable and shows rivalry like no other film.

33. The Face of Another

Woman in the Dunes was already a movie I loved and I thought nothing from Teshigahara can be better, but the next movie I've seen from him turned out to be a flawless masterpiece. Oh, comely. Neutral Milk Hotel. What?

32. Harakiri

My favourite Jidaigeki film and favourite Nakadai performance. Also it features my favourite melee weapon duel ever.

31. Eureka

Masterful psychological drama as good as My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?, but I had to pick one and since I think this one is more accessible (it doesn't feature noise music, but is a lot longer instead) I figured it would be better to watch it first. It's all thinking about you guys. If only anybody would like to watch it, I'd be happy.

Look, I'm not judging you - after all, I'm posting here myself, but maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time here and more time watching films, maybe, and I stress, maybe your taste would be of some value. Just a thought, ya know.

I think that's the first time I've seen Confessions mentioned on this site. It's a brilliant film and in my top 10 favourites. I wish I could give more rep

The whole thing for me. I know a lot of people love it, and I respect that, but that's just how I felt. I did like the twist but even that was nothing that shocking or special for me. I didn't hate the movie, but I think it's one of those things where you like it less, because of high expectations.
Yeah, I also though it was quite silly. But still good, but it felt really superficial, like a Nolan movie. It's a movie that's more adequate for 6th graders than adults.

You know when you sometimes make a statement, and then everyone piles in, and you get pissed at people picking on you. That was one of those statements

Sorry dude, to suggest a movie about revenge, incest, more revenge, suicide, and more revenge is a movie adequate for 6th graders is, well, odd

I believe one of your favourite films is Dr Strangelove, which is remarkably silly at times, but that's the point. That in no way makes it superficial or a movie for kids. It's the same with Oldboy - of course it's silly at times. All of Park's films are. It's predecessor, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, was much more silly but that's a technique that Park uses to balance the violence.

In regards to Cricket not liking Oldboy, that is completely understandable. The only thing I would suggest is that he said his issues were expectations - but that isn't the movies fault. Apparently wherever he heard about the movie gave incorrect information. He said it was supposed to be serious - it wasn't. Serious themes, yes, serious movie, no.

Still, nothing wrong with not liking it - certainly not a film that anyone would expect to appeal to everybody but for me it's one of the best films of the last 20 years.

I actually agree with Guap on that; it's just hard to put it in a way that doesn't offend the film's fans, and it's certainly not meant to do that. Even with the violence and sexuality, I felt it was aimed toward a younger audience. I feel the same way about The Devil's Rejects, which is one of my favorite movies. It has very strong adult content, but it's aimed towards a young audience I think. Same with films like Saw, Hostel, and Battle Royale. Of course Oldboy is more complex than those, but that's just the way I saw it. It could just be my particular point of view, or maybe I'm just getting too old.

I don't have any issue with that. I don't agree but can see why someone else may see it that way. However that's somewhat different to what Guap said - which was essentially 11 year olds. To me it's very odd for someone to think a movie like Oldboy is "adequate for" children.

People need to learn to respect other people and act like civilized human beings. I talk about movies not about their wives.

I know that I would have liked this movie more when I was 12-13 than now. 12 year olds love violence, gore and revenge movies. I watched City of God when I was 13, loved it, I watched Gladiator when I was 10, loved it.

13 year olds love stuff like OldBoy, Saw, Battle Royale and Hostel.

However, all these movies are quite good, actually. And I enjoyed greatly all of them but none are actually smart and subtle movies. In fact, my favorite movie, PMMM is quite similar to these movies in tone in many ways (but with a much more intelligent and complex plot and very deep characterization), PMMM is very much like a smarter 4 hour long Saw.

Dr. Strangelove is a profoundly cynical comedy that's self conscious of it's silliness and is an incredibly smart movie. Oldboy is a silly drama movie that is not conscious of it's silliness. That's a huge difference.

All of Park's films are. It's predecessor, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, was much more silly but that's a technique that Park uses to balance the violence.
I see, I haven't watched his other movies but they appear to be good.

Apparently wherever he heard about the movie gave incorrect information. He said it was supposed to be serious - it wasn't. Serious themes, yes, serious movie, no.
I see, maybe I didn't get it very well. It's more like a Coens movie in that regard.

I don't have any issue with that. I don't agree but can see why someone else may see it that way. However that's somewhat different to what Guap said - which was essentially 11 year olds. To me it's very odd for someone to think a movie like Oldboy is "adequate for" children.
Do you think that 12 years old watch what type of movies? I was watching everything when I was 12-13 years old and I liked extremely violent and sexual movies more at that time than I do now at the age of 24.

12 year old boys obviously do not watch stuff like Pixar movies, they think it's silly and "for children", they want blood, sex, over the top acting and explosions.

How is jumping out of a suitcase in a flowery meadow or the waltz music over his fake smile not self-aware? Don't answer that.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.

Interesting. It sounds like you're saying all violent, revenge-themed movies are made for 12-year-olds, not adults, except perhaps PMMM. I don't want to discuss the movies, but I'm wondering if any of these 12-year-olds have any adult supervision, or if the whole world is like Pixote, Streetwise and Salaam Bombay!. I know where I taught, the boys discussed watching pornos and violent movies when they were younger (some said they were eight or nine) and they did that with older family members and friends, so it may be common, but I don't have to be happy about it or think it's "normal".

I agree with Guap completely here. When I was 10-13, I had trouble getting any of my friends to watch anything that wasn't X (18) rated (X as opposed to XXX, you understand) and, even as an 'enlightened' boy of that age, with a few favourite exceptions, you'd have done well to get me excited about seeing anything lower than AA (15) rated.

Just caught up on this list... Mr Minio was right, I've never heard of any of these.

Jk... it's a pretty damn good list MM... some choices in here that not even some of the most seasoned MoFos would have picked
