Any good movie series nowadays?

Is there still any good movie series today?

Terminator is ruined
Marvel is ruined
DC is ruined
Alien is ruined
Jurassic Park is ruined
Die Hard is ruined
Indiana Jones is ruined
X-men is ruined

now Star Wars is ruined...

I feel bad for young kids nowadays, sure the special CGI is good, but that's about it.

Some Marvel movies are watchable blockbusters, but I don't think they are comparable to those classics. And a lot of Marvel movies are not good.

This might just do nobody any good.
I’m gonna be that guy and say that most of those “series” never got better than the first and fell apart after it.

Terminator 1: great genre piece. Sequel is kind of deflated, though. The first one works because of its scrappy nature and fenced in story. Same with Alien.

There’s no Jurassic Park movie worth watching other than the first.

Die Hard... sure. Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Irons count for a lot but other than that number 2 is pretty boring. A Goodfellas/Casino sort of situation. The less said about 4 or 5, the better.

Indiana Jones is a bit trickier but I maintain that there was only ever one good one: Raiders.

X-Men just had the best entry in its series with Logan.

So, yeah, those “good” series were really middling as a whole. Don’t feel bad for us “kids”.

I think Lord of the Rings is still thriving isn't it? I know some of the visuals in The Hobbit were criticized but apart from that it seems pretty much okay as a franchise.

Star Trek is another one that's arguably had it as far as films are concerned. And I don't think Discovery's been universally well liked.

You missed my point. There is a difference.

Sure Terminator 3 is just an average mindless movie, but the franchise wasn't ruined when Terminator 3 was made.

We all know Terminator Genisys ruined the franchise. It reached a nadir.

Don't get why people are so devoted to Movie Series'. It's often the same people that regularly complain about sequels/prequels being made for said series' yet that's pretty much all they watch, in my experience at least. Should probably watch some other stuff rather than purely looking forward to Alien 12 or whatever, your suspicions that the tenth sequel isn't going to be as good as the original is almost certainly correct, watch something else.

A Goodfellas/Casino sort of situation.
Casino is definitely lesser than Goodfellas and i'd much rather watch the latter most of the time, but Casino is still excellent particularly if you are familiar with the events it's based on.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
Marvel was ruined from the very beginning. Cookie-cutter films with zero artistry or creativity, appropriate for a mindless popcorn-eating session, but unsuitable for anything else. It's so sad to see how popular (and liked!) they are, and that does not say anything good about an average viewer. If the ultimate goal of art is to change your perspective, make you more open-minded, make you feel and experience new things, make you a better person, then Marvel films fail horrendously. Hell, most of them are not even entertaining. They're just a mish-mash of tropes and mindlessly repeated cliches. They try to please everyone by adding elements of comedy, sci-fi, drama... They try to be a couple of genres at once, but by not focusing on any particular genre they fail at them all. It's really surprising and saddening how undemanding the audience of these films is, and Marvel exploits it and uses the same formula over and over, repeating it until they puke. I greatly await the time when the audience is fed up with this. I wonder what the filmmakers are going to do. They will have to look for other formula, since the old one burnt out. And by looking for it they will make a couple of embarrassing films. But at least they will try to experiment a little. One could say that it is Spielberg that is responsible for the state of things, but at least Spielberg came up with something new in his time and occasionally added something to his films, soul, maybe. Marvel makes soulless films with no value whatsoever. The other day I had a discussion with a coworker of mine about AI, and the possibility of replacing many, many professions. Of course, making a Marvel film would be a piece of cake for AI, it could produce hundreds of them a year. AI could make a Tarkovsky film by studying his techniques and style, but would the final outcome be good, or would it just look like a mindless Tarkovsky wannabe with no soul whatsoever? All that being said I really enjoyed the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, but I ate so many crisps and sweets while watching... f*ck you Marvel for making me fat!

Look, I'm not judging you - after all, I'm posting here myself, but maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time here and more time watching films, maybe, and I stress, maybe your taste would be of some value. Just a thought, ya know.

For me Marvel is the definition of consistency, they've failed to make a "great" movie but their worst films are "not bad" and they tend to bounce between "pretty good" and "good".

It's arguably the best "movie series" of all-time as they've been solid for 17 films.

Have to agree with Dirk69. Such a shame. I think tv is where it’s at. Stranger things, West world. Those kind of high quality entertainment. Very rare to find it in movies today, especially the big blockbusters.

Also agree with another poster about the apes movies, they are maybe the only decent remaining series.

TV is where it's at only if you have a very narrow definition of movies. If you're only watching the same five shows/series then sure movies probably aren't for you, otherwise your golden

Keep your station clean - OR I WILL KILL YOU
I see where you are coming from, but one bad movie doesn't mean an entire franchise is ruined.

Terminator: Ok yeah, 4 and 5 sucked.
Marvel I mean they are like any other studio, sometimes they crank out good stuff, sometimes they crank out bad stuff. And Spiderman: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok were both very well received, you may not like them, but you can't take your personal feelings and turn them into a rule. I really didn't like Guardians Vol 2 though.
DC: I mean... Yeah, but it's been ruined for a while now.
Alien: There hasn't been a good one since 86.
Jurassic Park I didn't love Jurassic World, but I know a lot of kids did. So don't feel bad for them, they don't think its ruined.
Die Hard It has some good ones, it has some bad ones, just like 99% of every long franchise. Making a good movie isn't as easy as one may think
Indiana Jones How is the franchise ruined if you've only had one misstep? The other three are great. That's fantastic, good job. Most franchises suck by the second one.
X-Men Again, they have good ones, they have bad ones. There is also 10 of them, law of probability. People went nuts for Logan.
Star Wars You say that Star Wars is ruined now, and you didn't considered it ruined 18 years ago when the prequels began coming out? If anything, this is a step up. Also, a lot of kids loved Force Awakens and Last Jedi, so don't worry, not ruined for them.

Any good series? Well...Taking my personal feelings away and just looking at how the general public is reacting. Marvel, X-Men and Star Wars are definitely very good. The new Planet of the Apes movies are fantastic in my opinion. Harry Potter is fairly recent, and those were received very well. The latest Bond movies have been great. The last couple of Mission:Impossible films are even better than the originals. Again, I don't see how a bad movie can ruin a whole franchise. It's not like once a bad movie comes out, the others ones are erased from existence, they are still there and still great.
