Ok I've heard so many great things about Subnautica now that I'm definitely snagging it on the next sale. Not that I have time for another craft-your-survival world to get lost in, and I'll have to mod the **** out of it to stop the UI being attached to my cheeks in VR, but damn, the love for that game just keeps coming!

Love this game. The survival elements are pretty light, but it's a beautiful game, and it's fun to just spend hours exploring and taking in the sights. I haven't played in a while, now that I think about it...might have to fire that up again soon.

Where would RE2remake rank among the best zombie games of all-time? If you allow yourself to extrapotcv
Ask me once I've finished it.

It's not a genre that I'm overly familiar with but my favourite zombie killing game this gen has been State of Decay 2. RE2make is certainly infinitely more polished.

This might be of interest. Not watched it yet but, as John Linneman is one of my favourite people on the internet currently, I'm just about to.

Skyrim: Video Reality

Put a better vid together, just grabbing some of the fun bits from a 2hr session:

Less menu foraging in this one . Think it shows a bit of what VR brings. (Beyond just petting virtual wolves ). Stuff like peeking around misty cave corners, blazing fiends with your hands, and being terrible at firing a bow

So we're nearly 5 years on from Steam's embrace of Early Access.

I'm kinda amazed that 9 out of the first 12 titles actually released

Less surprised that I've never heard of half of them

Alongside Kenshi, the released games are Kerbal Space Program, ARMA 3, Prison Architect, Drunken Robot Pornography, Gnomoria , Gear Up, Starforge and Kinetic Void.
Interesting that a few lauded indies are in the list though (Kerbal, Prison Architect etc). What the hell is Drunken Robot Pornography though? (I'm not googling that...)

Finished off Super Metroid this weekend. Still as great as I recalled, and maybe even more so. The game tells its story without resorting to text-based exposition or cut scenes, and there is still a nice emotional payoff at the end. Pretty much the entire narrative unfolds through the game play itself. The game is difficult, but not overly so. It delivers a ton of atmosphere for a 16-bit title, and at no point did i feel like it became a grind or a chore.

Still one of the best video games ever made.

I don't even need to read it. That screen cap alone is worthy of an up-vote or three.

OK, I've read it and I absolutely agree. I had the SNES but only Mario World and Street Fighter 2. I didn't have the pleasure of Super Metroid until later years in college when I discovered emulators. I found a copy and WOAH was it GREAT! Opening on the rain storm, the calm yet brooding music, and the environment to explore offered such dense atmosphere. I'm getting giddy chills reading along and seeing that screen. GAH!

I downloaded a free copy of Fortnite last week. This game is toxic with micro-transactions. My nephew has it on his Xbox so I was able to watch him play a few weekends back. Seemed fun. From a design perspective, it's pretty tight. Large characters in the locker room, several nice animation transitions from menu to menu screens, and a lot of secondary animations on the character. At least while in the locker room.

Gameplay appeared to be kinda random, conceptually. The chaos is what attracted me. It looked like a cartoon with its cartoony objectives, like something I could invest time into without taking it too seriously. Then I downloaded it. For the player count of the few games I've entered, the world is far too large. I spent majority of my matches just trying to find someone to shoot at. Maybe it was the time of night, but I gave it two days and several matches with similar results.

I think I could enjoy this one once I pass the entry-level hurdles. This one does not feel natural to me though, cycling through weapons rather than having them assigned. I guess I can assign them, but then there's that whole building mode that seems to be more important during play. I love the approach. I'm just not sure I'm willing to invest into learning these details if I can't find more than 5-10 other players in the circle. It was free, so I'm sure I'll give it more attention.

Hellloooo Cindy - Scary Movie (2000)
Not going to download fortnight personally. Think it’s one of the evils of the modern age. The way a few of my nephews are hooked is a bit sickening tbh. Not judging the adults - however the game seems to be addictive for the youngsters.

So am thinking of getting the last of us remastered but want some opinions. Never played on seen it played. How strong are the story elements in terms of story to gameplay ratio. Does the gameplay play second fiddle to the story, is there a fair bit of Ye olde walking simulator. Not sure I can digest a strong narrative if its overbearing the gameplay for my next game.

I would say the story definitely outweighs the game play. The game is also extremely linear. I found a few sections to be a bit on the annoying side, but not to the point that it made me want to put the game down. The story is definitely the draw here, though.

Funny you mention that. I feel the same. In fact, the last time I watched my nephew play (13 years old), I went on a rant about how he is the target or the next gaming market. Because of him alone, the gaming industry is pivoting to micro-transactions and that because there is more profit in selling novelty items than developing new and interesting game mechanics, the future of gaming looks to be much of the same recycled crap.

lol. He did admit that Fortnite is addictive and that he has already spent $50 just on dance macros and costumes. =\ It concerns me how far things will go once his generation reaches college years, I mean, being primed to pay for incremental updates. We're already there in several ways with DLC post-release, movie variants and re-releases, digital subscription services, etc.. But how far can it go? Spooky stuff.

Thanks for this. I do want to play it and will (one day) but it doesn’t sound like something I want to experience just yet. Might pick up bloodborne or Wolfenstein the new order 2014. Something with constant gameplay.

I'm loving Taiko no Tatsugen, but using the controller just wasn't doing it at higher difficulty levels.

So I'm importing one of these.

I believe people would call me a mark.

i'm SUPER GOOD at Jewel karaoke
Wife and I are working our way through Evil Within II. It's hard to find a horror game that my wife likes to play for longer than 10 minutes, but this one won her over. Good blend of Resident Evil and something like Alan Wake or Silent Hill 2
i bought this one awhile back and only got about probably 10 minutes in. i dunno, maybe i need to give it another go eventually.

I finally installed RDR2. Gorgeous. I've not gotten past the introductory burn the house down/return to camp section as I cannot read the text prompts for which button does what. Seems games are made for desktop monitor viewing instead of large screen across the living room TV viewing. I ended up strangling the poor guy in the barn instead of interrogating him because I couldn't make out which button icon was on display. Poor guy. I may have punched the horse too.

Next time I log in I'll try standing just a few feet away. Maybe I'll be able to read things at that distance. But the game looks great!
lol, i've accidentally punched my horse more than once.

i bought the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for Christmas after having won a brand new 4k tv at a christmas party, and i have to say, it looks ****ing gorgeous. the gameplay is perfect, too. the story is even more intriguing in this one than the first one, believe it or not. i've gotten about halfway through the main story but now i'm getting into the online mode. my husband and i like to play online together. you can have your own posse, it's super fun.

Game horror is something I've always wanted to get into but never really could pull it off. I guess it may have to do with my life already being pretty high-strung as it is. No time for MORE paranoia and jump scares when I'm trying to chill the hell out on the couch. ;P

This goes back to the original Resident Evil on PS1. Once those few zombie dogs burst through the hallway windows very early in the game, I was done. It was nice to see that first cut scene of a zombie gnawing on a body then noticing my presence. Still, I couldn't get past the jumps to get any deeper in. I think the voice acting might have had a role too.

The closest I got after that might have been a PC demo of F.E.A.R. I remember it being incredibly immersive, and with headphones on it was kind of trippy. I remember walking down a dark alleyway and my comms dropping with static. Then out of nowhere was this kid's face flashing before me and her voice on my radio. GREAT rush, but still too much for me at the time. I never purchased the game to play through. I did really enjoy watching the rats scurry away from my flash light. The environments were gorgeous and unheard of, at least for me. You have to realize the last shooter that I had played before that was probably the original Unreal campaign in the late 90s.

Around the same time I tried to pick up (now don't laugh), Bioshock. I downloaded a PC demo after a coworker recommended it. It looked good, but having no idea what the game was about, everything kind of made me jumpy. My first encounter with a splicer was it for me, what with how she was crawling through the walls taunting me, cackling, and screwing around with the lights. Yeah, no. It wasn't until years later, after picking up a PS3, did I even attempt to try that again. and I loved it!

That's sort of the problem here for me. I'm missing out on an entire genre of potentially lovable games for my over-hyped sense of paranoia. Gosh. I am a bit jealous, to be honest

This is probably totally do-able in classic Skyrim too, but it's very satisfying

---

I've taken to chilling out with cabbage sports in Riverwood after a major raid. (Taking on a demi-god with only mage robes to protect my bits turned out to be pretty rash. Luckily panic bowing is totally OP )

there's a frog in my snake oil
Stuck my disagreement with the Wolf Queen on YT.

I was genuinely ****ting myself at points during this, especially before I realised I could leg it out of the room and kite the undead about a bit. It's not really glorious gameplay, but it does perhaps communicate my unbridled panic

(Peak disorder came in one of the first runs though, when a slain zomb slowly reanimated in my armpit )

Also stupid cabbage games.

It's all about the story. Yes it's highly polished, but the controls are not on par with previous ND offerings.
