Help Much please?

Tools

Ok so, this seemed like the best place to put this.

My birthday is coming up and im getting money for it, my money is going to be spent on updating my movie collection. Though i know you dont actually know what i already have, but i have this issue of tending to go blank when it comes to actually buying things.

What im asking is, could you each give me a must see that you would reccommend I buy?

Welcome to the human race...
I reckon Goodfellas is an all-around masterpiece that should be in anyone's collection.

Welcome to the human race...
I'm just trying to think what constitutes an objectively great film that anyone should own (rather than try and throw in several of my favourites - as much as I like Repo Man, I can tell it's definitely not for everyone).

However, here are ten I consider objective essentials (not including Goodfellas of course)

Jaws
Casablanca
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Blade Runner
12 Angry Men
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Godfather
Lawrence of Arabia
The Seven Samurai
Dr. Strangelove

However, here are ten I consider objective essentials (what Iro said):

The Deer Hunter
Fight Club
Seven (Se7en)
The Shawshank Redemption
A Few Good Men
Saving Private Ryan
The Wizard of Oz (haven't seen that one, but think it's supposed to be a big deal)
The Sixth Sense
American History X
Moulin Rouge (I'm subjective on that one).

I wouldn't say Jersey Girl is a must have, but it gave me a warm, delightful feeling inside.
Nothing like Kevin Smith has formerly made. It's in my review thread for further information.

I looked at your favorites and tried to add a few similar to those I thought you might like...

Edward Scissorhands
Monty Pythons Life of Brian
The Godfather Collection
Taxi Driver
Much Ado About Nothing
Amélie
The Princess Bride
P.S. I Love You

I own all of those with the exception of Life of Brian which is on my to buy list...

(Walk in Peace)

Mystic River
Psycho
Lawrence Of Arabia
Jaws
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
Donnie Darko
Leon
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Brazil

Wow some good suggestions, Ive seen a lot of them but now realising I dont actually own many of them! My brother took them all when he moved out dammit.

Epic Movie, Date Movie, Superhero Movie, Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie.

All objective masterpieces

Seriously though, i'd hit out (amongst other mentions)- Midnight Cowboy, Memento, Vertigo, Mean Streets, Darkman, Project A, Manhattan
